Mea culpa - my last post should have said
If you use the Shared Event/Witness feature in FH then only one citation per event is necessary.

Re: Source templates and websites
Thank you for all the comments. Don't forget, many source types will provide information about many individuals -- a Birth Certificate will usually be cited for the Principal's birth, the name of each parent, the mother's maiden name, the father's occupation, the residence of the informant, etc; so ...

Re: Source templates and websites
The more I look into the template system, the more puzzled I get. Each of the templates has a note explaining that there will be one source per record, such as a line in a church register or a particular will. So there no longer seems to be any distinction between a source and a citation and the num...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
I am going to post a request to the Guild of One Name Studies - they host over 300 members' websites most of which use TNG.

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
Our problem is that there seem to be only a few people who want to use the witness facility in their TNG family trees. The fact that more genealogy programs have introduced witnesses and are using the same tags is a good argument but more people asking Darrin for it would be better. He is unlikely h...

My last chat wth Darrin on this subject was more than four years ago, so he may be more receptive now.

Re: Source templates and websites
Thank you Lorna, that is very helpful.
I don't normally download images so using a template, one source per website and putting the URL in the citation will be the way forward for me.

Source templates and websites
I have a very simple and perhaps stupid question about using FH7. All my research for the past year, and most of it before that, is based on websites, mostly from images of original documents like parish registers and census sheets or digitised books, some from transcribed lists like FreeBMD or the ...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
I replied to Darrin: " Thanks for that explanation. The problem we are discussing in our forum is that nearly all of the mainstream PC genealogy programs now deal with a 2_SHAR 3 ROLE pair by A. Showing the parent (level 1 tag) in the witness's properties B. Adding to A the Role text C. Adding to A ...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
Darrin has responded: Hi John, Those are my words, and I remember having that exchange with someone, but after a closer examination, I can see that TNG *is* handling the ROLE tag, and your links show that. The content on the same line should become a note for the shared event. I can't remember who t...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
Mike: I don't think I know enough about the subject to agree or disagree with you. What I like about TNG is its use of hyperlinks, which makes it very easy to navigate through a family tree. That is why I am happy with my own system for witnessed events - I think it particularly important to be able...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
Can you provide any feedback on the TNG use of 2 _SHAR ~ 3 ROLE tags, please? Very few of my Gedcom files seem to contain _SHAR tags but I found one to upload to TNG. The result was that all the Event owners' individual pages showed the Event with the text from Note or Source, but no reference or l...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
Thank you, Mike, for your reference to importing. I have a lot of witnessed events imported from Legacy into FH. They have similar witness roles defined but in slightly different syntax from the role definitions which I used when setting up the Facts in FH. I am not sure about your reference to blue...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
Mike: I think there is something more to be said for the ASSO-RELA solution. Most events that involve witnesses are Facts relating to a single person so using ASSO is in practice a person to person association even if not in theory, and using it to link to either the bride or groom in a marriage doe...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
I am still exporting event witnesses to TNG and still making use of the ASSO~RELA feature to do so, as I explained in my previous post to this thread. I use it mostly for Will and Probate events but also some marriages and other events. You can see the results on my website hulbert.one-name.net. Thi...

Where census text is saved
I use method 1 for recording census facts and generally find it convenient, except when I want to check the details of a previously recorded census entry while looking at the record properties of an individual in FH. In this case there is an "Actual Text" field as part of the Source details which is...

Re: Error in saving a census family
I have solved my own problem, but I do not understand how it happened. I am using Windows 10 and have always placed my default My Documents folder on a different hard disk from the operating system (for obvious safety reasons). So the correct path to Ancestral Sources' Settings, Log File and Backup ...

Re: Error in saving a census family
Sorry - I can see now that there is nothing wrong with the apostrophe.
I think the problem is caused by my default Documents folder being in a different place. I will investigate further before bothering the forum again.

Error in saving a census family
This happened out of the blue when I clicked SAVE
I hope that these screenshots are self-explanatory.
On the second, I have added an arrow indicating what I think is the error - a single apostrophe (which should not be there) before a path name.

Editing repository record.
Is it possible to change details in a repository record, or do I have to create a new one and then merge the two together?
