Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
I will try the TNG forum as you suggest. I think that there may be some confusion between the way that a genealogy program like FH functions - by realtime processing on a PC with data sets stored in gedcoms or some other database, and TNG where the only active realtime process is occasionally import...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
Mike: Before continuing this conversation, please let me know what you find unsatisfactory in the TNG page referred to in my post of 29th June. This example shows hyperlinks leading from all the "Witnesses" named in the will of William Wastfield to the individual details of each witness and also ASS...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
I am trying to point out that the reason why a satisfactory solution to the Witness problem in TNG has never been found is precisely BECAUSE the destination tree name is not present in any gedcom produced by FH or by the Export plug-in.

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
Mike: I have been trying to think through the difficulties in dealing with witness events in your Export Gedcom plug-in. I think that the main problem is that TNG trees are equivalent to FH projects, so the same ID can be used for different people in separate trees. This means that all URLs and hype...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
LeslieP,
Have a look at this page of my website and tell me whether you like the way I have dealt with witnesses to Wills and with Associations:

Re: How can I use a quarter date in a custom query?
I think that TNG just accepts whatever it is given in a Date field. I have worked out a way to produce the results I want in order to use Birth/Death Registration Events in FH and to show quarter dates in Qn form when uploading to TNG. It is cumbersome but effective as long as I do not try to use to...

Re: How can I use a quarter date in a custom query?
I have just tried uploading some test files to TNG and TNG seems to accept quarter dates in the form Qn NNNN - see this page: https://hulbert.one-name.net/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I18232&tree=tree2 Perhaps the problem is that TNG does not sort a date like this well? I also found that if I en...

Re: How can I use a quarter date in a custom query?
Mervyn - thank you for that suggestion. David - I have over 20,000 UK people in my database and cannot afford to buy many certificates. So I use the General Register Office indices which have been online for many years and are now showing more information than they used to - and (except for very rec...

Re: How can I use a quarter date in a custom query?
Thank you both for your advice, which has allowed me to put all records with quarter date births into a named list.
I am intending to experiment to find the pros and cons of using a separate Fact for Birth Registration as well as Birth and Baptism.

How can I use a quarter date in a custom query?
I am trying to write a custom query with a column which will allow me to identify and manipulate dates shown as Qn NNNN, but I cannot see which entry in the Field list to use.
Is it possible to do this? Or would it be easier if I changed them all to Date Range format first?

Re: Strange behaviour using ORA with Family Historian v7
I think the best solution for me is to remove the extra space from the existing Census events which contain the rogue addresses and then make sure that I do not enter any more addresses like that. I find the space after District useful because I have a system of proper addresses with a comma after e...

Re: Strange behaviour using ORA with Family Historian v7
Mike, I mentioned Ancestral Sources because all the rogue addresses have come from Census events created by using AS. Your suggestion about looking at the Address list is worth pursuing, because all the rogue addresses which have appeared so far (31 Albert Road, Little End, Rookery House) are near t...

Re: Strange behaviour using ORA with Family Historian v7
I have been manually switching to the Facts tab and then selecting Death as Paultt suggests, because I did not know how to do this in ORA - so thanks for showing me how. I have copied Paul's template to Template 4 in my ORA settings and show the results below for the same individual (after I had del...

Re: Strange behaviour using ORA with Family Historian v7
John, thank you for your prompt response I am attaching a double screenshot showing the FH property box immediately before and immediately after I click "3" in the ORA control panel. Strange behaviour using ORA with Family Historian v7
This is a minor problem but intriguing, and may be caused by ORA, FH or possibly Ancestral Sources (or me of course). I am currently using ORA mainly with FindMyPast 1837-2006 Birth Marriage and Death E&W records. This problem relates to recording Death records on the Facts Tab in the FH Property Bo...

Re: Strange behaviour of prperty box since installing latest update
Thank you very much , Lorna.
The Preferences setting was OK and I was able to narrow the Property Box as you suggested.
A bonus is that I had never looked carefully at the Preferences window before and I can now see other choices which might be useful in the future

Strange behaviour of prperty box since installing latest update
I normally have the property box postioned to the right of the Focus window but I cannot find a way to do this since installing v7.0.11. If I select "Properties" from the bottom of the View menu it overwrites the whole FH window (below the menu bars) If I then click the Float Property Box icon, it f...

Re: Person IDs in Ancestral Sources
P.S.
TNG allows the same ID number in separate trees for different people so hyperlinks always have to include a tree number.
I notice that I have been promoted from Diamond to Famous - I hope this is not a code for infamous.

Re: Person IDs in Ancestral Sources
TNG is good at using hyperlinks but it adds a capital I in front of all incoming person IDs (and F for families I think).
That is one reason why I had to write my own program to create Witness links. I have not investigated whether this could be done in FH using custom IDs.

Thank you for the suggestion Nick, I will try it out.
It sounds ideal for use within FH but might cause problems when I upload my trees to TNG.

Person IDs in Ancestral Sources
I use AS mainly for censuses using method 1. In the General Settings I have ticked "Show birth date and ID" on the main screen which results in IDs being shown in the right-hand panel on the AS screen but not in the main part of the screen. This means that IDs are not saved as part of the citation t...

I have now tried writing my own source template and found it easy to do, with the help of Help. Re: Source templates and websites
I can see your point about BMD certificates, But I make much more use of simpler (and less expensive) sources for life events. If, say. a baptismal register happens to give a date of birth as well as baptism it is easy to create another event for the same individual and use the Copy/Paste Citation f...
