Just curiosity.
My workround for the witness problem in TNG involves creating 1 ASSO facts so I wondered how you were using 2 ASSO.

Re: Quarter dates and Gedcom files
The change of dates in your new plug-in seems to work perfectly - showing quarter dates as Qn yyyy but not messing up dates between one year and a later one. I noticed you had also included an option to show Witness Role 2 as 2 ASSO and tried that, but it didn't do anything - probably not designed f...

Re: Quarter dates and Gedcom files
I don't think I would take the CPanel route,
I have written a small program which I use to change Witness events into a form which TNG will accept, so I could add conversion of quarter dates to that.

Re: Quarter dates and Gedcom files
Thank you Mike and Adrian for investigating this. I still want to use the Qn format in TNG and am not bothered about possible problems with day/month sorting because I seldom have a need to sort in my websites. There does not seem to be much support for adding a solution to the Export plugin so I wi...

Re: Quarter dates and Gedcom files
Mike and I seem to have misunderstood each other. I have not written a Mod for TNG. What I did was: choose a small gedcom exported from FH but not yet uploaded to TNG open the gedcom in WordPad and change three quarter dates to Qn format upload the altered gedcom to my TNG family site (with no probl...

Quarter dates and Gedcom files
Because of the need to rely on the GRO index to identify individuals born in Britain since 1837, I have a lot of BMD dates in my FH databases in the form of quarter dates . FH displays these in the format I prefer ("Qn YYYY", similar to the GRO Index format of Qn/yyyy) but stores them in gedcoms in ...

Re: Request for help with failing memory
Thank you very much Lorna.
Actually I was referring to Notepad++ which is a free program I found on the internet and seems to have facilities for manipulating text files which are not available in Notepad or Wordpad or Word.

Request for help with failing memory
A few months ago I found that my habit of entering dates extracted from the GRO online indexes into Birth Date or Death Date in the FH Property Box was causing too many problems, so I decided to set up custom events for Birth and Death Registration and then transfer the existing quarter dates+places...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
I think that your 2-line proposal would be a considerable improvement. But I am still attached to the ASSO Rela solution because I think that an ASSOCIATION between two persons is more understandable to the general public than anything that involves genealogical jargon like Witness, Fact and Event. ...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
We are comparing looking at the property box of a witness in FH which tells you nothing until you click the Facts tab and then only that he/she was a witness in some type of event - until you click on that line in the property box and then get some more details and you can then click on the Source c...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
I find it difficult to answer your question about 1 Even facts because I am not sure why the plug-in creates them. One of the attractions for me in the ASSO Rela format is that it gives the role of the witness and date of the event as well as the name of and link to the Principal - and all that on o...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
"In the 1 EVEN 2 TYPE Ω ... Role facts why do you prefer the 1 ASSO link " - I cannot work out how to do quoting on this board. I think that I unconsciously wanted to copy the efficient and simple use of space in the FH property box, where a witness role has a single line in the Facts tab but can be...

Exporting Gedcom in FH7
In earlier versions of FH I used to create a named list containing the records i wanted to populate a new gedcom and then go through the process of exporting a gedcom. After the new gedcom had been saved FH popped up a dialog box offering to open the gedcom in a new instance of FH, but this no longe...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
I have, I hope, corrected the handling of a name-only witness and will attach the revised program. I am not sure what the problem is with the 1 Even issues. My program was written on the assumption that all "1 Even 2 Type - - Role" sections are added by the Export Gedcom plugin as copies of an event...

Re: TNG and FH event witnesses standoff
Mike: I will certainly send you my program by email, hoping that you can easily translate it out of Basic into Lua. At 85, I do not feel up to learning a new programming language - I feel the same way about the the new Source system in FH7. I should explain that the program also has another function...
