Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Thanks very much for that Jane, all sorted now. I even managed to modify the plugin because I'd made another narrative entry that I had forgotten with " occupation recorded as " which obviously didn't get captured on the first run through. I think that's the limit of my plugin editing skill though!!...

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Jane,I'm not going to be at my PC for a few days so the outcome will have to wait I'm afraid. Will get back asap with the results.

Thanks

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Thanks Mike

Yep, repeated tries muddied the waters a tad but thanks for the observations.

BTW, greatly appreciate the work Jane and yourself put in to this site to help the likes of me.

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Hi Jane Sadly no, that didn't work quite as planned. I've run it on my "test family" with the following results Capture20.JPG 1851 was the "approved" AS method with 1861 & 1871 my "narrative!" method However on running the plugin ( 4 times because I hadn't realised it had run! ) I got the fol...

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

There's over 180 people with an average of 3 census notes each showing "occupation shown as : ******" so it might not be worth your while Jane. It's not like I've been collecting all the "hangers on" which can add significantly to the total individuals in a project. If you can, that would be brillia...

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

By way of rounding off this exercise here is my solution for my own self inflicted problem. I can now see occupations which have been associated with a person using both my old "narrative" method and the approved method ;) Capture11.JPG Maybe not ideal, but until I get round to putting all my census...

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

I created a small project and tried again. The results were the same. However after looking hard at what Mike had suggested I do to AS to include a narrative sentence which I had completely forgotten about (my sincere apologies there for needlessly wasting people's time) and reversing it with Nick's...

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Lorna, Mike and Nick Thanks for all your interest. Firstly a log file from AS Capture9.JPG To answer Mike's question - why did it take so long? I was more focused on producing narrative reports that had an easier readability rather than just a list of fairly dry facts, hence my changing the Census F...

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Hi Nick
So even though I've uninstalled and reinstalled AS my customisations are retained elsewhere?
If I hit Restore Defaults in AS will that remove any customistations?

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Hi Nick/Mike

No, I haven't done any editing/deleting of any note or fact after simply entering the census details via AS.

Tried your suggestion Mike, and re-installed the latest version - same result I'm afraid.

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

The only other possible "interference" with Census Occupation fact that I can think of is my own setting of the Census Definition Capture7.JPG I have no idea as to whether this may be the cause of the empty Occupation field in the Census Tab The following data set for this individual may help Captur...

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Hi Mike/Nick
I've never been into the templates screen of AS so should be as installed.
Opening up Census, I'm seeing exactly the same as described.

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Hi Mike I've just entered a new census entry using AS. The census grid is as below: Capture3.JPG Unless I'm missing something the relevant occupations are entered in the occupation column, but still are not being picked up in the Census tab for any of the individuals e.g Cornelius: Capture4.JPG So s...

Occupation missing from Census tab

Hi Mike I have added the majority of my census entries using Ancestral Sources. Whilst the place and address of the particular census entry show in the Census tab the occupation does not. Capture.JPG Capture2.JPG Is this due to something I'm doing wrong in AS or is there something I need to tweak in...

Thanks for you patience Mike, I'd been looking in the wrong area and also put the wrong terms in the FHUG search box.

Re: Linking a census image to family members

I've been using AS to link census images to census events but realise that I've linked the wrong image in a couple of instances. How do I unlink the problem image as it doesn't show under the individual's media tab which would give me the ability to unlink it using the red cross button?

Re: Timeline export to Excel

Hi Mike - and everyone else, thanks for your replies.

Yes Mike, my hope was to create a spreadsheet with time line events - the drawing board beckons again I think.

Thanks anyway for your help.

Re: Timeline export to Excel

Hi Mike

It's Jane's Timeline Chart v1.7 plugin, not one that I've written myself. If only I was even anywhere near knowing where to start!

Re: Timeline export to Excel

Hi Mike

It won' let me upload it as it reports it as a "possible attack vector" even as a txt file so I've copied and pasted here.

Timeline export to Excel

Ok. So my timeline plugin works just fine, and I get a timeline chart with relevant facts displayed along a date line. Right clicking in the chart area give me, amongst others the option to export to MS Excel. Selecting that, opens Excel (2007) and a run dialog box asking me if I want to run Timelin...

Ah, so not a couple of quick lines of code then!

Never mind, it'll have to go on the backburner for the time being, but thanks for replying.

Historic Timeline

Hi, this is my first post. I've tried searching the forums to see if this query has been asked before but can't find anything so here goes. The idea of a map for life events is great and I find the plugin very interesting, however it got me thinking. It would be nice to be able to put one ancestor's...
