Re: Additional Untitled Sources

I concur with Jbtapscot & Gowermick. And have said so before. Additions to databases without a "save" option are irritating and potentially dangerous to data. Nobody seems to design systems that allow deleting material without confirmation... for exactly that reason.

Re: Best way to index my collection of church register images

One thing you could also think about is using an EXIF editor which could allow you to incorporate not only keywords but also to include GPS coordinates which would allow you mapping possibilities. I use GPS to record locations and specifically for graves. I do a lot of photography and I use somethin...

Re: Surname Prepositions / Prefix

At the risk of causing folk even more grief the ACCR - "Anglo American Cataloging rules" - used by "most" English-speaking libraries has a lot to say about organizing authors alphabetically and therefore how the prefix should sit: "If a surname includes an article or preposition or combination of th...

Re: Saint and Street format conventions

Lorna, I don't know if it is standard in "legalese" but probate records interestingly have the hyphen as almost the only punctuation present, no commas or full points - the only exceptions mostly are full points after the s and d of shillings and pence.

Re: re naming source/media files

OK. Some of them have been changed and some are still truncated. Can't see a complete answer but it looks as though there may be some punctuation in the original file name that upset the plugin? It's not a huge number that haven't been altered, I can manually sort those without too much bother Thank...

Tried it, and it doesn't seem to do anything. Loaded the plugin - Run - and nothing happens. Is there something I should be doing more than that?

Re: re naming source/media files

Mike I have the same issue as reported in the posting "Truncation of Media filenames on import from TMG" posted back in 2015. My media window shows exactly the same problem as the screen posted by JohnLiddle » 08 Mar 2015 17:34 It seems to be a TMG problem, FH doesn't do the truncation, as described...

Re: re naming source/media files

Is there a way to do this "the other way around?" My media file names are correct - all files are external and I want them to remain where they are and with the names they have. My issue is that these worked fine with TMG, but the translation process into FH has kept the links but has truncated the ...

Re: Saving a new Citation

No problem with autosave here. This is a piece of software which does require you to commit before saving or sending. Which is how it should be. Only cross with irritating spelling and grammar suggestions as a default status. At this very moment in this reply something is saying that "which does" sh...

Also, you can switch off Auto-Save and Spell checking.
See Tools > Preferences > File Load/Save and Notes.
Yes in FH. Can you do it in this user group? Or allow it to let me use English instead of American spelling/grammar?

Re: Saving a new Citation

I think I have to side with the anti-auto save view a bit. I know programmers think they are being helpful, and maybe even prevent folk from losing data by taking control away from them. But the other view (mine) is that such an approach can verge on the patronizing. Like auto complete, and spell an...

Re: FH7 Unable to download

My experience - don't follow CP's instructions to "run" the software - save it, to a local hard drive - again keep away from MS cloud storage. My first attempt to run from drive didn't work. I downloaded and saved it again. Ran the 2nd version and that worked fine. YMMV. Worked for me. Downloaded us...

Re: Information re a historic Birth Certificate application.

My tuppence - Was a birth cert needed for making a will? If so, it might be that a solicitor/solicitor's clerk made the application, and with only approximate information, got the best match that Somerset House could provide? And the process for application was not then what it is today. GRO methink...

Re: Erroneous Data on Census

Another issue to consider is who actually may have supplied the information. I have several cases where Mrs X (not the head of household) supplied the information from her view - so "sister" was not the sister of the HoH, but actually his sister-in-law. That maybe easy to spot, but in cases of "neph...
