Re: Export GEDCOM File - TNG - extra notes
Excellent! Amazing what solutions come to us in the middle of the night. My wife used to think I was losing it, when she would occasionally wake in the middle of the night to find me on my phone, furiously thumb typing a quick email for work the next day. I found if I did not do that I would spend t...

Re: Project Window - simple alteration
I was only half serious when I posted this last night in a moment of frustration after a long day. I understand that there are many ways to achieve the same end and all of them are perfectly acceptable. I don't believe we are ever to old to learn new things but old instinctive habits become more dee...

Project Window - simple alteration
It is always the small things that push one over the edge. :x Not sure if this will get much uptake but here goes. Please move the Open Project button from its position as the middle button in the screen to the far left or at least away from the centre. For some reason, I instinctively click on the ...

Re: Export GEDCOM File - TNG - extra notes
You have a point. However they are kept as separate entities in the database. They are mashed together on display using a (join) table which links individual notes to other entities (such as sources). In order to clean this up I would need to find each of the join table records and remove them. Ther...

Re: Export GEDCOM File - TNG - extra notes
I downloaded and tried the update Export Plugin v 5.1.6 which you supplied this morning. It is now handing the export of templates in exactly the way you documented in the Help and advice. That clears up my misunderstanding based on the results that I was seeing previously. Help and Advice.jpg Howev...

Re: FH==> TNG mediatype blues
Just to follow up with your comment Adrian ...my TNG media setup is highly personalized with various Collections (Birth, Death, Census, Photos, etc.), and I use tags in FH to identify which collection to put the media in. I then run some self-written SQL on the TNG server to move and label my media....

Re: FH==> TNG mediatype blues
Good point about the ping pong. In that light I will retract my previous suggestion. The handling of media in TNG is insanely flexible as far as your media organisation goes. But with that flexibility can come confusion and complexity, especially when moving data between platforms. Any time I even t...

Re: FH==> TNG mediatype blues
Each time I have prepped before importing a gedcom to TNG by: 1. utilities =>optimize/backup all tables 2. setup =>created tables 3. utilities=>restore all tables EXCEPT address, children, citation, families, events, media, medialinks, notes, notelinks, people and repositories I can add tree to the...

Re: FH==> TNG mediatype blues
You mentioned that you followed the following steps. 1. I followed the steps and upload my media files from Export to my media folder on my server. 2. I uploaded the gedcom from the export folder to my server to load into TNG. 3. I keep openmaps and the bare essentials of bot protection mods etc. in...

Re: Export GEDCOM File - TNG - extra notes
Thanks for the update. I will try it out later today. My dog needs a walk soon, so first I have to go brave the freezing rain outside. ;) What you are experiencing is some of the effects described in the FHUG Knowledge Base of using Templated Sources. Exporting GEDCOM to other products poses a chall...

Re: Export GEDCOM File - TNG - extra notes
OK so now that finally makes sense for me. I have always found that section somewhat cryptic. In my experience it never actually worked that way so I thought I was somehow misinterpreting what I was reading. The Remove Entirely option does remove too much in my case. Also, I am still unsure about ho...

Re: Export GEDCOM File - TNG - extra notes
Thanks for getting back to me and confirming my suspicions. I am only partially fluent in GEDCOM so I often second guess my interpretations of what I am seeing In the meantime, if you use the Move to Note Record setting instead of Reformat Metafields then the Note records are correctly created. I do...

Export GEDCOM File - TNG - extra notes
Export GEDCOM File 5.1 FH7 7.0.18 TNG 13.1.2 and 14.0 For some time I have noticed that when I export from FH and then import into TNG that literally hundreds of blank notes are created. A small SQL update in the TNG database usually takes care of them. I finally decided to investigate. I export to ...

Re: FH==> TNG mediatype blues
I was going to suggest that this sounds like an issue with the GEDCOM import on TNG and you should ask this question on the TNG community forum, but I see you already have it posted there as well. I think your answer to this question is most likely to come from the TNG group.

Re: FH-RM-Ancestry Sync error
After a private email exchange with Mark it seems to be the individuals flagged as "Living" which were causing the problem. I did a bit more digging and realised I had selected the option to include Persons marked as "Living" in the export. Once I de-select that option the export works fine.

Re: FH-RM-Ancestry Sync error
It hangs and I have to force FH to close. The task manager indicates there is a lot of CPU activity but no disk activity and memory usage seems to remain static, so I would tend to believe it is stuck in some type of loop.

Re: FH-RM-Ancestry Sync error
I find this plug-in interesting. I played around with it a bit in the spring and thought it had a lot of promise. I let it slide over the summer but recently decided to try it again. I am using the latest version (0.3.3) to work with my FH 7.0.18 installation. Curiously, when I try to run the initia...

Re: Where Born
... it would be useful to have a 'fill down' option (similar to the option in Excel) so you could type in the first place, highlight down the column and click 'Fill down' to put the same value into each highlighted cell. This is already on my 'to-do' list. That would definitely be a useful feature.

harold, I presume you have found the Export Gedcom File plugin that has dedicated options for TNG. Thanks Yes I have been using it and several other plugins. Good morning. I am running FH7 on the latest version of Windows 11. In reality what I am observing is the links are actually defaulting to my system ...
