Re: RM7 -> FH7, lost some citation formatting, other citation questions
Interesting proposal. I cannot see any problems with it at the moment. One question though. I am not familiar with the internals of plugins so the answer may be obvious to others but not to me. Is there any possibility of optionally triggering the Edit > Undo Plugin Updates from within the plugin it...

Re: RM7 -> FH7, lost some citation formatting, other citation questions
That makes sense. Unfortunately style codes are not applied to source record titles.

Re: RM7 -> FH7, lost some citation formatting, other citation questions
Thank you very much. Your quick responses are very much appreciated. I do have one more somewhat related question which may have already been asked/answered (but I cannot find it). I noticed this behaviour some time ago but never followed up on it. The footnote is exported to the GEDCOM TITL tag, bu...

Re: RM7 -> FH7, lost some citation formatting, other citation questions
Yes, that feature can be added to the next version of the plugin. That would be great, thanks! Do you realise it only applies to Templated Sources where the Footnote Format includes formatting style codes? Yes, I understand that. Would it be sensible to make that setting the default for TNG+ as it ...

Re: RM7 -> FH7, lost some citation formatting, other citation questions
I have not found any other products that support style codes in the Source Title so that effect only applies to RootsMagic. I just found this thread. As far as I know TNG will accept any HTML style code in the Source Title. It has always been a tiny annoyance to me that the source TITLE (and possib...

Re: Is it time to split the General Forum?
I wonder if anyone else uses the forum like me. Other than the AS section (that I keep a closer eye on), I only ever view the forum via the Active Topics list, so the entire forum is presented to me in one long list and I don't really ever notice which section I'm in! I guess we all work in differe...

Re: Version 7.0.20 Released
Also in fairness to CP, I think is incumbent on the user to ensure they make copies of the sample project (and backups) before they make any changes they wish to make permanent. As a former software developer, any time I included sample data, it was a given that it would replace any previous sample ...

Must be a US thing. In this colony to the North, I grew up hearing both "aged 87" or "in their 88th year".

Re: Source & media naming
IMO exporting your data and importing it again is red herring. It is a red herring if "exporting your data and importing it again" is all you are doing. However, if you regularly export data from one product to another it becomes very important. I maintain my data in FH but I export it regularly to...

Re: Family Historian 7 and TNG 12.1
One option I have done in the past with some success was, copy and paste directly from a formatted (Word) document into the Body Text field of a media object in TNG. The Body Text field is a fairly powerful editing tool which will maintain most of the original formatting of the pasted document. It e...

Re: Unable to enter diacritics in fields
If you use a British Keyboard and I use a North American model, then it is likely that a foreign keyboard would also work. So that is a possibility for me. I was just going to post something about that. I see you are in Canada. You should be able to pick up a reasonably priced Canadian Multilingual...

Re: Export to TNG
I hope you don't give up over a single thumbnail generation. Many TNG users generate their thumbnails on the desktop and upload them. This avoids problems if your service provider places restrictions on your website memory usage. I use the following to generate my thumbnails. https://www.fookes.com/...

That sounds good. Better to ask the seemingly dumb questions early rather than later.

Re: Can Census Local Note include ALL Names and Relationships?
That could be made to work but there might be some wrinkles to iron out. Presumably the text would only be copied to a note for a census event and not to any other event which might cite the same source. There is also the question of multiple census events. I have a handful of cases where the same p...

Re: Can Census Local Note include ALL Names and Relationships?
Given that you are showing a screenshot of the Census event on a TNG person page I assume you are trying to resolve an issue with how the census information is displayed in TNG. TNG buries the source text in the source detail on a separate page reached from a link in the source citations section on ...

Re: Export to TNG from scratch!
In my experience when it comes to exporting GEDCOMS from FH, or importing media into TNG the first and best approach is the following (not that I ever follow this advice): Read carefully every single line of the online help related to that subject. Wait 30 minutes. Then re-read it twice. Wait an hou...

Re: Export to TNG from scratch!
There are a lot of things to consider and, as Adrian hinted, there is much to be learned by experimenting to start with. Dealing with media is always one of the biggest considerations when setting this up. The following describes how I deal with it currently. In my experience there are several ways ...

Re: What specifically can you currently do with a gedcom 7 exported file?
Update: Seems I was incorrect below. This is a symptom of thinking one is certain and can quickly reply to a message on their handheld device ... without verification ... just before turning in for the night. I read on another forum this weekend that the latest version of Rootsmagic will import GEDC...

Thanks for spotting the TIFF issue Adrian. Thank you also Mike for a quick update. It solves an issue I recently observed with a couple of media items on my own local site. This checks off another box on my "To Investigate" list.
