Re: Just started using Zerobrane
So, after a bit of reminiscing, back to Zerobrane... I've been fiddling around with the settings - got rid of all those pesky underlines that (I found) made it difficult to read my code, tweaked the syntax coloring a bit more. Next, I'm wondering if there's a way to control folding. Perhaps to only ...

Re: Just started using Zerobrane
We saw people dropping decks all the time. We were young and mean and found it quite funny.

Re: Just started using Zerobrane
My first job in the tech world was working at the remote computing center at University. We used to refill the paper supply for the line printers, tear-off and distribute student jobs, and, ah, unclog card reader jams. Good times!

Re: Just started using Zerobrane
You folded your punch cards !?!
So, you were the one who kept clogging up the card reader!

Re: Just started using Zerobrane
OK. Now can run 2 copies at once. I just added -cfg to the shortcut.
Now, if only we could debug from here.

Just started using Zerobrane
I've been using pspad to develop plugins for a number of years. For a while I've wished for code folding and today I finally decided to do something about it. Since I see that some people are using Zerobrane, I decided to try it out and after fixing the syntax highlighting colors (the default scheme...

Re: Displaying Richtext
Thank you Jane. This is exactly what I need.
I looked for something like this using the 'Search' tab in FH Plugin Help. Search term = 'richtext'
fhPromptUserForRichText does not appear in the results list.
Interesting, no?

Re: FH -> RootsMagic -> Ancestry (Work-in-Progress)
You are correct. Mary has parents, or a husband, or children. They could certainly be included in the sync algorithm. But RM doesn't seem to. In fact, this isn't a failing of just RM. Merge routines are not so great in other programs as well. I believe that FH has one of the best because you have co...

Re: FH -> RootsMagic -> Ancestry (Work-in-Progress)
Yes, that is correct.
That is why I see direct access to the RM database as the only viable option to creating a process which will work reliably and with a minimum of effort on the part of the user.
So, I'm waiting for CP to add LUASQL back in.

Re: FH -> RootsMagic -> Ancestry (Work-in-Progress)
Mike, _UID is definitely not a workaround in RM.
It is a feature that allows you to differentiate between all those women named 'Mary' with no surname and no other details.

Never mind.
I found the (obvious) solution. This is what happens when you don't get enough sleep because you keep getting up in the middle of the night to write code.

Creating Templated Source
I think I know the answer to this, but I'm asking before I write my own implementation.
I am creating a new templated source.
Do I need to create the elements of the template (Name, Collection, Category etc) and the fields myself? Or is there an existing function that does it?

Re: FH -> RootsMagic -> Ancestry (Work-in-Progress)
Hi Mark, I believe that we have gone about as far as we can at this point. I don't plan on implementing the interface until I can access the RM database directly in order to automate the comparison process. That means LUASQL. Perhaps Calico Pie will get it working in a future update. Alternatively, ...

Re: Recording Business Addresses
Yes, that is correct. Property = Possessions
For the purpose of recording business addresses, however, I would not make the assumption that the address was owned by the individual. Therefore, the use of Possessions would be incorrect.

Re: Recording Business Addresses
The source may provide their occupation, but not always, especially in the case of women. Even if there's a trade listed in the directory (like tailor or watch maker), it's highly improbable that the woman actually engaged in that trade (in the 19th century). I would say that it's more likely that s...

Recording Business Addresses
My husband and I are working on a one-place study. One of our interests is tracking where people lived at different periods in time. To that end, we collect as many addresses as possible using censuses, directories, phone books, electoral rolls, etc. Up to now, we have been using the Residence fact ...

Re: Slow save on network share
Hi Colin, I took a look at NAS drives. Here in Israel, they are rather expensive. Perhaps I will set up a file server instead. My husband is due for a new computer; he's using my old computer, purchased in 2012. It's still going strong, but 8 years is pretty old for a desktop. I'd rather invest in a...

Re: Slow save on network share
I haven't worked with NAS drives. My husband told me yesterday that while I was taking my nap, he had no problem with save times. Apparently, the fact that I'm working on my computer has a definite effect on performance. I'm wondering if a NAS drive would help with that. It looks like I've found yet...

Slow save on network share
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. I'm hoping somebody else has dealt with this issue. My husband and I are both working with the same databases (not at the same time). Up to now, we have stored them on Dropbox. This week, I moved our databases to a network share (so that they wou...

Re: LUASQL - Not available in FH7
I got a reply from Calico Pie. They asked for a link to a version which works with lua 5.3, which I supplied. I replied with a link, they said thank you and closed the ticket. They said they would check it out, but obviously, didn't give a timeframe. Meanwhile, I'm busy cleaning up place names in my...

Re: FH -> RootsMagic -> Ancestry (Work-in-Progress)
Wow! This is a lot to digest. I'll probably get to that tomorrow (and hopefully not in the middle of the night ;) ) A few preliminary thoughts. In my opinion, at least in the first version of the process, we should let RM do as much as possible. Directly writing to the database is fraught with risks...

Re: FH -> RootsMagic -> Ancestry (Work-in-Progress)
While I think it's admirable to try to build a tool which accommodates the way other people have been working, I'm not sure it's within the scope of our project. The amount of work to make our solution compatible with all of the ways that people may have been working would be enormous. We need to at...
