Re: Getting the pointer to a _PLACE note

OK. Really was a stupid question.

I forgot that I had to create the note if it didn't exist.

All works now.

Getting the pointer to a _PLACE note

I know it's a stupid question, but I can't find the answer, so... I have the following code: pNote = fhGetValueAsLink(pi, '~.NOTE2') where pi points to a _PLAC record. I've tried several variations on the data reference. All return 'null'. I guess I'm missing a period or something. Can you help? Tha...

Citations - can't figure out how to get 'Where within Source'

I'm pulling out my hair here. I have no problem diisplaying 'Where within Source' in a query . But, apparently, I'm not using the correct reference in the plugin I'm writing. My function gets a pointer to a fact - pfact , and loops through the citations (sources?) for the fact. I'm having trouble ac...

Re: Find Duplicate Names Plugin

I think that the only field which is relevant for us is ¬.NAME.

We do not assign values to any of the sub-fields. Does FH assign values to GIVN and/or SURN?

Re: Find Duplicate Names Plugin

We enter all names found in the records. And there are a lot of variations. So an individual could have quite a few alternate names. I have individuals with upwards of 10 names. That's an awful lot of permutations.

Re: Find Duplicate Names Plugin

I am looking for 1) Any single Individual record where its Primary/Alternate Name fields contain duplicates.

I don't think it should be too difficult to write.

Find Duplicate Names Plugin

Hi, I need a way to generate a list of people who have duplicate names (the same name occurs more than once for the person). It's a pretty easy plugin to write, but before I spend the time, I wanted to check if something like this already exists. I checked the Plugin Store and didn't see anything, b...

Re: What to call a person who is not a progenitor

David, Sprogless... LOL Since I'm not a Brit, I had to look that one up. I like your suggestion of 'Stand-Alone'. It seems to me to be a neutral designation that captures our intention. To clarify further, we are currently marking individuals, via a plugin, as follows: - 'Grimbarian' (born, lived, d...

Re: What to call a person who is not a progenitor

I wanted to clarify a bit more, regarding the kinds of people that are included in this category. 1. People who appear as 'boarders' or 'servants' in the census for a household of known individuals. 2. People who were buried in the Jewish cemetery; may or may not have died in a Grimsby-associated re...

Re: What to call a person who is not a progenitor

Jane,

I, too, am inclined to call them 'Strays', but both my husband and daughter made a face when I suggested it. They both said it makes them think of stray animals.

But, if I get more votes for 'Strays' perhaps my husband will accept it. ;)

What to call a person who is not a progenitor

Hi all, My husband has been researching the Grimsby Jewish Community for years and years. Finally, he has agreed to start the analysis phase of the study and start publishing. Yay! Among many other things, we are flagging people who were members of the community (born, resided, died or were buried i...

Thank you Mike.

I've done this before. As you say, not straight-forward, but the results are worth the effort (in my opinion).

Re: Running reports from lua

Thanks for everybody's input. I need to use a plugin to generate at least part of my reports because they are non-standard and require logic. I plan on generating my output as a MS Word file. I've done this in the past and, while not trivial, gives me fine control over all aspects of content and for...

Running reports from lua

I've tried looking for this and think that it probably doesn't exist, but I'll ask anyway...

Is it possible to run a report from a plugin?

I would like to be able to specify a list of individuals, in a named list, and generate a report for each individual, saving each separately.

Thanks,
Shoshana

Add Media URL Shortcut

Hi Mike, I love this plugin. But today, I tried to add a shortcut and encountered the following error: ... 52: invalid capture index ... I tried to take a look at it to see what's going on and also did a bit of googling. Somehow, it seems to be related to % chars in the URL and something about encod...

Re: Source which provides evidence for sibling relationship

Actually, after analyzing lots of little pieces of evidence, I know who the parents are, and the children are linked to the parents. But the source in question does not prove a parent-child link. It proves a sibling-sibling link. That is what I want to document. I don't like using associates because...

Re: Source which provides evidence for sibling relationship

I'm trying to document a family for which there is very little hard evidence (lost in court house fire). For each piece of evidence that I find, I'm trying to document exactly what is proven; I'm not making any assumptions. That will come later when I put together all the little bits and pieces of e...

Re: Attach individuals to note record

Mike, Thank you for your suggestions. That's what I need to link the individuals. I think that should be pretty straight-forward. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment, because I would also like to display a list of the currently attached people as well. As I see it, I would open a window with a list...

Attach individuals to note record

Hi, We have started using note records to manage our research logs. I'm not going to go into detail here on that, but it works really well. One problem (or frustration) that we have run into is that in order to attach individuals to the note record, we have to go to each person and attach them, one ...

Source which provides evidence for sibling relationship

Hi All, I have a source which provides evidence for several sibling relationships. I know who the parents are (from other sources), but this particular source does not prove that relationship. Rather, it says that x is the brother of x and z. I'm wondering how to document it. I thought about creatin...
