Re: Links to Individuals in notes
Mike, There are cases where linking the individual via the notes tab will work just fine. But not always. For example, I might have a research task where I set up tasks for various individuals associated with the research task. I would probably make a table with entries including a link to the indiv...

Links to Individuals in notes
So, I've created some notes (say, research notes) and have embedded a link to a particular individual in each.
Does FH provide a way to get a list of notes which contain an embedded link to this person?
Shosh

Sample Report Plugin
According to the help for plugins, there is a sample report plugin which can be downloaded from the plugin store, to serve as an example for writing report plugins.
I've looked, but there do not seem to be any report plugins. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place...
Thanks,
Shosh

Re: Sample plugin for converting sources to use templates
Hi Mark, I've taken a look at your code. It doesn't work for me, since my sources are set up quite differently. It runs, but returns an empty result set. So, I looked at it from a high-level code review perspective. I have only a few comments. (I hope you will take them in the spirit in which they a...

Re: Writing Plugins for WATFOR (and other FORTRAN) Programmers
Mark, Thank you for your offer. I don't have a lot of experience writing training material (although I've used a lot of it over the years) and would really appreciate any help I can get. I intend to start at an absolutely basic level, not assuming any previous programming experience. But, as the les...

Perhaps I'm missing something, but could you display the qualifier in a separate column.

Re: Writing Plugins for WATFOR (and other FORTRAN) Programmers
Getting started in the KB ... It seems to me that I'm going to have one article which will contain the outline for the course/tutorial and then an article for each lesson. There could potentially be quite a few "lesson" articles. Is that a problem? The naming convention for articles would be: Writin...

Re: Writing Plugins for WATFOR (and other FORTRAN) Programmers
Correction, the Programming in Lua book (4th edition) is available for purchase as an ebook (pdf and epub version) with an online version. At £22 it seems like a no-brainer. My husband likes referring to books, so it probably makes sense to have the most recent version. Programming in Lua Fourth Edi...

Re: Writing Plugins for WATFOR (and other FORTRAN) Programmers
Helen, Yes, I've seen the programming in Lua book. The first edition is available online. Do you think it's worthwhile to invest in the 4th edition (available only as hardcopy)? I imagine that I will reference sections in the book in the References section for a lesson. Other references could includ...

Writing Plugins for WATFOR (and other FORTRAN) Programmers
Hi, Since starting to use FH about five years ago, I have written a number of plugins used by both myself and my husband (he's the WATFOR programmer :D ). Several of these plugins are truly "mission critical" and my husband would be pretty lost if I was not able to maintain them. I've come to the co...

Re: Sample plugin for converting sources to use templates
Hi Stan, If you are sure that you want to move to template-based sources, then, as a splitter, I definitely think that a plugin is the way to go. You are likely to have multiple sources which need the same treatment. And I agree, a generic solution is not likely to work for most. Although I'm not wo...

Converting homemade plugins to FH7
Hi all, Just wanted to share... Aside from changes in the new versions of lua and iup, I've discovered that changes to the GEDCOM structure also need to be taken into account. For example, the structure for media objects (OBJE) has changed. The following is code to add a media object for FH6 -------...

Re: FH7 - Source Templates - To use or not to use
Hi Mike, I did a little testing and found that, in fact, Rootsmagic (paid version) supports templates in its GEDCOM export (and import). The free version does not support creating and editing templates so I'm not sure if it will import new templates. Anyway, I'm sure that this is a very low priority...

FH7 - Source Templates - To use or not to use
Hi All, I purchased the upgrade, installed it and have started playing (on a test database). Gosh! So much new stuff! So much to learn! Anyway, I started looking at the new source template facility. Obviously, up to now, I've used the generic facility and, actually, I really appreciate the benefit o...

Setting Fact notes to null
I have a number of notes on facts which I am deleting. I find the notes by a query which has the criteria 'Exclude if fact.note2 is null' (yes, yes I know that's not the proper syntax; I'm being lazy and using pseudo-code) Deleting the text of the note does not set the note to null (I guess the note...

Got it working. The correct syntax is:
pNote = fhGetItemPtr(pi, '~.NOTE2')
Thanks for helping.

Re: Getting the pointer to a _PLACE note
Ok, still having a problem. pNote = fhGetValueAsLink(pi, '~.NOTE2') always returns null. So then I if pNote:IsNull() then pNote = fhCreateItem('NOTE2', pi) end fhSetValueAsText(pNote, sNote) which creates a new note for the place. Every time I run the plugin. Which is not what I want. Argh!
