cleansing source text
Some websites display odd behavior when dragged and dropped to the text source field (has something to do with IE). They insert a great number of linefeeds. Changing the text (per source) is a lot of work and is contradictory to the ease of use of drag and drop. So I my idea was to just do the drag ...

Re: a few age related questions
Thanks Lorna and Mike for all your help. I also found out that {date range} will use "infant" when < 1 year old, which is not really the end solution but better than 0. @Mike - I see your point now; it's not the problem of testing whether or not both death and burial facts exist, but the inability t...

Re: a few age related questions
Hi Mike, Yes, to me it also seemed complex (given the set of tools currently available in FH). Maybe if we split it up? 1) As Lorna indicated: use {date range} to get the calculated age at the moment of a given fact. Solves 90% of the problem. 2) Find out if, when in a Burial fact, a Death fact exis...

Re: a few age related questions
Thanks Lorna, must have overlooked it (maybe put on the wrong track because of the name of the code "date range").
This helps me out in all situations but the burial/death combination. Any ideas on how to test whether that combination exists for an individual?

Re: a few age related questions
This usually is not a problem when using death certificates as sources (they record the age at death). But when it's a burial record from older sources, the age at burial is not recorded, which means I have to do the calculations myself (with possibly errors and untraceable inconsistencies). I have ...

a few age related questions
I like to show the age of a person in the sentence of his/her death. The right way to get this is, I think, using {%FACT.DATE:AGE_AT%}. This gives me the age in years; for children it would be great to have it in more detail (say months/week/days). So, I would have to find out if is a child (say, te...

Re: Error in Map Life Facts plugin
Mike, just to get the terminology into my head (I've read the help): 1. Green (Plotted) means these places have been found in FH and marked as tentative; so, usually good candidates to geocode in MLF? 2. Defined (Purple) is the same as Green, but marked by FH as non-tentative. But, due to the qualit...

Re: Error in Map Life Facts plugin
Hi Mike, Tried the updated plugin from all angles: no problems. Works like a charm. I'm not sure, but it's very well possible that the problem started after I set the preference to update the FH place records. BTW, does the plugin overwrite FH places if I have them blocked? And, I use it to find the...

Re: Error in Map Life Facts plugin
Its says:
I use ", Place name" everywhere. The usual format is street, place; but when I don't know the street it's , place.
Seems to work ok with all the other places but for this one. Strange.

Yes, that's the idea. With all the extensive customization options in FH some kind of "my own help" feature would certainly be fitting.

Re: Error in Map Life Facts plugin
It doesn't come that far. The error comes up right after "run". And, yes; a few days ago (when it was still working correctly) I've set the options to update the FH database place records. I don't use the address field (except for repositories). Can I run a query to find out what the erroneous field...

Re: Web drag text with CR preserved
Hi Mike,
So it's IE related. I use Chrome as the external browser and that obviously does support the tabular data when copying.
I guess we'll have to wait for Spartan (or Edge or whatever the final name is going to be) to solve the problem.
Thanks for diagnosing the problem!
Cheers, Joop

Hi Mike, I tried your Media window display settings and indeed; this helps a lot. It certainly is quite workable; thanks! Regarding the "Windows explorer window": yes I know "the trick" to use a "browser approach" to display local files. But as you mentioned, unfortunately the files don't open in th...

Intelligent web tag: By this I mean that a field, if not empty, is expected to hold an URL and has properties that usually belong to an URL. Also, the field should have meaning from a genealogy point of view. So an URL for references to sources, addresses, places, media etc. An URL with (in the end...

Short would have been nice, but I agree that for that to work you need some kind of convention and what works for her doesn't always for him, now does it?

Thanks Mike, in the mean time I did as you suggested and mailed Calico Pie with my suggestions. This is Simon's reply: Hi Joop - thank you for your email. The short answer is that we strongly agree with you. Supporting multi-language output is something we very much want to do. It's been high on our...

Re: Even more Internet savy
Yes Mike, it is partly covered by nr 86, but only partly. I'd like it to be an intelligent web tag. Do things like check for doubles, have references in reports, generated websites etc. Your other remark about an URL being a kind of Media link is interesting, but I don't yet see what that would help...

Re: Even more Internet savy
Hi Mike, 1. I know the "Copy Web Address" and use it extensively. My point is that such an important feature (in the Internet age) should really be a button that immediately copies the whole web address (the complete link) to the source/citation (as it is, to the note field; but as I explained I str...

Hi Mike, The =GetParagrah() does exactly what I like to see happen. Thanks, I missed that one on my search for knowledge :). One question though, in the help file it says: =GetParagraph(%INDI.BIRT.NOTE2%,2) This example will return the 2nd paragraph of the note associated with a given person’s birth...

Hi Mike,
I've enclosed a screen copy (this shows the Dutch website and the concatenated result of the drag).
I use Windows 8.1 and my browser (external is Chrome); don't use IE.
The site supports English as well.
