Re: add search and replace to notes.

I could use the global Find and Replace and have it convert my notes but I'm in the process of cleaning up my sources and verifiying them. I was looking at having a F&R in the individual notes so I clean them up and format them. I found that I don't like the tables and much perfer columns and been r...

[Wish List entry 600] Add search and replace to notes.

I do a lot of drag and drop from websites in my notes and source text. Right now I have to use an external text editor to search and replace parts of the pasted text to clean it up and then paste into the notes. I know there is a search and replace plugin but that looks like it does the whole progra...

Using citation list help

I moved from RM8 to FH7 and now cleaning up my sources using the Citations to sources plugin. How do you tell which citations you have fixed without printing off the list and marking it up? I don't see a way to add a modified date to the list. I have a ton of census records that are shared and right...

Re: FamilySearch hints

Thanks for letting me know. Right now since I have 4 monitors, I keep a tab for Ancestry and Family search up on one of them. I got kind of lazy using familysearch in RM8 ;)

FamilySearch hints

Are there any plans to add FamilySearch to the internet data matches besides the two already there, FindmyPast and MyHeritage?

Re: Allow citation fields in biography on sources

So basically, The biography would just contain something like "1920 U.S. Census" instead of " 1920 U.S. Census, Florida, Lee County"?

[Wish List entry 599] Allow citation fields in bibliography on sources

I finally had to give up on Rootsmagic 8 and moved to FH. So far not so bad but I don't know if this has been asked before but I can't find it in searches. I'm a lumper and I found out I can't use citation fields in the biography bibliography for sources, getting error messages say that field can't ...

Re: Using XML vs Gedcom to store data

Yes Mark RM is making a lot of bug fixes. I have RM 8 to read some old databases. RM8 right now seems more interested in getting it to work with Ancestry and FamilySearch then the actual program itself. Atleast FH's programmers listen to their users, RM seems to have a leave us along, we'll let you ...

Re: Using XML vs Gedcom to store data

I switched to FH due to the fact they seem to be the only software developer who makes regular updates and enhancement. Many of the others go years between updates. The only fault I have with FH is citation handling being a lumper. Still with this, it still is one of the best programs out there. The...

Using XML vs Gedcom to store data

FH is a very powerful program but by using a gedcom format to store data places lots of restrictions on the program that other genealogy programs that use a database don't have. It would seem to a better option to use an XML format for the storage of data. With this we can have things like shared ci...

Re: Viewing and editing citations

I think the difference between Splitters and Lumpers came from genealogy being done on paper before computers took over. Splitting seams to be the best fit for paper genealogy and lumping for computers. As to how FH handles citations, it comes down to FH using a text files vs database which imposes ...

Re: Viewing and editing citations

Here's my example. I have a master source for say 1940 U.S. Census. I create a citation for the census event for say John Doe. I then share this event with several family members. Here I can just edit one citation and it effects everyone using that shared event. Now I create an event for the occupat...

Re: Viewing and editing citations

Sorry been away for a while. I do currently use the Citations to Source Record menu command, though it seems like it should be in the drop down menu for the source or it's own icon in menu bar. Still being a lumper, I still prefer a one to many instead of the many to many method so I don't have to g...

Re: GEDCOM 7.0

Since the Family History Center is so slow in updating the gedcom standard, how come all the genealogy software developers don't get together and create their own standard that allows things like shared events, shared citations and such? It would be wonderful if the standard was a downloadable file ...

Re: Honorable discharge event help

I think that may be the correct way to do it by just posting the image to the discharged event. The Honorable Discharge is usually issued 4 years after discharge date at least for the Navy. You get it at discharge if retired.

Honorable discharge event help

This may be simple but I don't know the right way to do this. I have my fathers Honorable Discharge certificate and want to record it. Was wonder how you do it. I have events for his enlistment and discharge and the HD has a date 4 years later so do I crate an Honorable Discharge event with the HD d...

Linking or moving media

I would like to see an option in preferences that allows you to pick to either link only or move to default location when drag and dropping media so you don't have to be constantly asked every time you add media.

Re: Field codes for Source Template Definitions

I'm finding myself in the same boat. I'm a lumper keeping my census records by Year. Not being able to use citation fields in bibliography is a real kill joy. I would love to see that restriction removed so we can completely control our sources.

Ok! I see what's going on. I thought the Record ID was the id of the citation, but it's a person ID number. Dang, I thought it would be simple.

Re: Duplicate citations after import from RM8

I believe it could be done with code. The program could find all the instances of the citation and make the change automatically in the underlying gedcom. There could be an option to turn this feature on or off in setup.

Duplicate citations after import from RM8

I did a direct import of my genealogy from RM8 (junk) and for the most part it was painless. Just wondering when cleaning up my citations after using the Citations to source, shouldn't editing one of the entries should update all the citations with the same record ID? Right now I have to edit one an...

Saving imported source templates

Using FH 7.0.8.2, when you import a rootsmagic database, how do you save the converted templates so you can use them again on a new Project file? I don't know if I'm missing something or not. Viewing and editing citations

I would like to see FH display citations in the Source Tab like is done in Rootsmagic 8, and Familytreemaker 2017. Re: Source Templates for a Lumper

Thank you for the reply. Figured out what I was doing wrong, I was going by how sources were used in another program. I have a small database as I was doing a do over, so I will be converting my free style sources over to templates. Though I'm still kind of confused by the difference of Source Serie...
