Re: Birth/Death Registration Dates

Thank you Arthur, David and Mike. Plenty of ideas there, and I am clearer about how to go about creating these records.

Re: Occupation at Death

Mike, I have substituted {individual/him/her} instead of {individual} in my first version, so now it reads: "The last occupation of {individual/him/her}, prior to {his/her} death, was {a/an value}{=GetLabelledText(%FACT.NOTE2%,"Time:")} {place}". The Narrative output remains the ...

Occupation at Death

UK Death Certificates generally state an occupation of the deceased when an adult. However, often it is not clear whether or not this occupation was carried on until the day he died, or had ceased some time earlier, an important difference I think. Using the standard Occupation Fact implies that the...

Birth/Death Registration Dates

I have been trying to construct a fact to record the date of birth or death registration, where there are two parties, the Informant and the person recently born or died. After trying countless sentences, generally with Informant as {individual} and the born or deceased as a witness, and failing mis...

Re: Custom Fact Type (Attribute) Syntax Problem

MIke, Thank you once again. Yes, I had clean forgotten that I had edited that specific Sentence. I think I meant to make the corresponding change to the Sentence Template but my attention was diverted from doing so. Also, I had not previously realised the significance of the beige or white backgroun...

Custom Fact Type (Attribute) Syntax Problem

I have constructed a custom attribute fact type for Admons i.e. no will made so letters of administration. I use the value element to record the value of the estate. It mostly reads well, but with one problem. The sentence template is: {individual} left no Will and {date} Letters of Administration w...

Thanks for the update. I have taken a look at it, and it is not for me because I keep my FH multimedia files outside the FH Projects folder.

Re: Check and Repair Media Links

I am a late arrival to this one... This looks like it may be a useful plugin. However, not only does Mike's Skydrive hyperlink lead nowhere, the entry in the KnowledgeBase Family Historian Plugins Alphabetic Index is more or less a "dead" link too. I wonder, was this plugin superseded by a...

Re: Migrating from TMG9 to FH6

I have a slightly different experience to Don's. Firstly, I am not aware of any loss of Tag/Fact information in the direct import of 9500 individuals, but in 18 months of testing before committing to FH I modified several tags in TMG to better match the corresponding FH Facts, whilst the FH "Ch...

Re: Address and Place, yet again

Mike, "Yet again", thank you for your help. Having made the decison to incorporate address elements in an all-embracing Place, straightaway I replaced my "<at {address}> {place}" with "{_place}". However, your suggestison is much improved and I will adopt this forthwith...

Re: Address and Place, yet again

Finally (?), thank you all again for your help. I have decided to go down the road of keeping it simple, using Place only, for the time being at least. Yesterday evening I found another Forum discussion on this same topic from January 2015, entitled 'Place and Address - Appearance in Reports etc.' I...

Re: Address and Place, yet again

Thank you all for so many helpful comments. Clearly, as I knew already, there is no straightforward answer, but it seems there are workarounds, compromises, etc. Compromising on the full "mailing label" for Address seems to be widely practised, combined with copious use of "<at {addre...

Address and Place, yet again

Yesterday's (21 Sep 2016) 14212|Preferred Format for Places thread has prompted me to ask a question or two, which I have been rehearsing for a while. After 18 months of testing and trying (and liking) Family Historian, and modifying my Master Genealogist (TMG) project to improve the Direct Import e...

Re: Difference between marriage by license and marriage by banns?

A marriage license, issued either by church or state, authorises a couple to marry in circumstances where a marriage would otherwise be illegal e.g. if the necessary period of notice for the marriage has not been given. Whereas, in "normal" circumstances, the banns of marriage are the publ...

Re: Odd behaviour of Fact display in Fact tab of Property Box

Mike and Lorna, Thank you for your explanations and comments. I should have said initially that before posting to the Forum I had experimented with the content of the Abbreviation field, mostly to no avail. The Help for Fact Definition says "If specified, the abbreviation will be used instead o...

Odd behaviour of Fact display in Fact tab of Property Box

This is not a problem, more a matter of curiosity on my part. Can anyone tell me what governs the display of the Fact at the beginning of each line in the Fact tab. In most cases it is a full word (Born, Baptised, Death, Residence, etc.) but sometimes it is abbreviated (Educ. and Occup. for example)...

I get the same but perhaps slightly different. It says I have "chosen to open ... application/x-trash (40 bytes)". This is using the latest version of Firefox. With Edge it tries to download a file called "WLSNJTNG".

Re: Occupation fact interpreted inconsistently (TMG import)

Mike, Once again, thank you. Your option 1 to "replace {note} with {value} in the Sentence Template" worked with immediate effect, as far as I can tell, but more checking will confirm. My use of the Occupation fact, that is, having one per person, may be "a little unorthodox" but...

Occupation fact interpreted inconsistently (TMG import)

I have only just noticed that a proportion, it seems perhaps a quarter or a third, of my many hundreds of occupation facts are not being interpreted properly in FH. This was originally a direct import from TMG (not a GEDCOM) but I don't think this is the problem. They all came over into the Standard...

Re: Current age display

The first thing I notice is that Emma has two "facts" about her birth, one is a definite date, presumably from "personal knowledge" of the researcher or a copy birth certificate, the other appears to be from the GRO Births Index and gives only the Year/Quarter. Perhaps FH is look...

Re: Import TMG V7 to FH V6 project failure

As a long-time TMG user who has nearly but not quite committed to FH, I will say that FH's import is by far the best available as far as I am aware. I have compared it with Legacy and RootsMagic, and a number of lesser products, and FH is streets ahead of the rest. The import has some shortcomings, ...
