Re: Check and Repair Media Links
Thanks Mike, It appears that there are other elements of the display that are not big enough for my tired eyes to see! I found the three crosses as you suggested, and it turns out that they are duplicate media records in alternative formats (jpg, jpeg, pdf) and not linked to any of the records anywa...

Re: Check and Repair Media Links
It looks like I didn't reply and thank you, Mike, for sorting out this problem 4+ years ago!! Humble apologies for that. Fast-forward to the present, and I switched to a Mac some 18 months ago and migrated FH6 to that using Crossover. It has worked satisfactorily, but Crossover does not work ...

Re: CrossOver v19
Like others posting on this thread I am trying to run FH6 on my newly acquired Mac. I wasn't going to take this route but there isn't a Mac specific app that comes near FH6 (IMO). I am currently using the trial version of Crossover (I think it's version 20 now) on Big Sur. I eventually got it all ru...

Re: FH7 Looks?
I quite understand that viewpoint, and I am guessing that CP will not go the subscription route. I expect that when V7 arrives it will carry a higher price than V6. In my opinion £36 is very cheap for such a comprehensive package. There should, of course, also be an upgrade option, which I believe h...

Re: FH7 Looks?
Some interesting comments here, both in criticism and in defence of FH. From a personal perspective I am perhaps more worried about a small company going to the wall and the software I am using becoming obsolete over time, than I am about when they are going to tempt me into yet another upgrade. How...

Re: Setting Default Project
Hello Mike, I tried your suggestions and those changes didn't stick either. I tried a reinstall over the existing programme and that didn't solve the problem, so I uninstalled it and installed again from scratch. I'm pleased to report that this seems to have done the trick. Thanks again for your help.

Re: Setting Default Project
Hello Mike, Thanks for your reply, and yes, the same thing applies if I set the sample project as the default. I checked the startup preferences and it did show the file I had selected as the default in the address bar. I even clicked "select" and "apply" again to confirm it. If I go back into the p...

Setting Default Project
I am trying to make a copy of my project Myhill FH6 to use as a sample project whilst I experiment with Ancestral Sources, but am having the following problem. In the project window I right click on the project and select copy project, name the copy Myhill AS FH6 and the copy appears in the project ...

Re: Check and Repair Media Links
I have been reading this discussion on media links and realize that I made a dreadful error in doing what David Potter did, namely link my media to a folder outside of FH6. I understand that this will cause unnecessary complications when it comes to transferring my FH Projects to a new PC, which wil...

Re: Tidying Up "Places" in the Database
Since my last post I have discovered the way to find associated records. In case any of the other newbies were wondering, you click on the respective "note" or any other item in the records list for that matter and then click on "view">"record links" and a new window will open showing all records th...

Re: Tidying Up "Places" in the Database
Hello Mike, Yes, I have viewed a lot of that information and many of the YouTube tutorials. Although there is a massive amount of information to absorb (there always will be with such a powerful database), I think I have made good progress. It's just that sometimes it isn't easy to find reference to...

Re: Tidying Up "Places" in the Database
Thanks Jim,
That worked a treat. Hopefully as I find my way around FH6 I won't have to keep asking silly questions!
Regards,
Dick

Tidying Up "Places" in the Database
Does anyone know whether it's possible to merge places in the list? For instance, if you have typed in Cranbrook in some records and Cranbrook, Kent in others and Cranbrook, Kent, ENG somewhere else, these will show as 3 separate places in the list. Ideally I would like to merge the 3 places so that...

Re: Handling Errors in GEDCOM Transfers
Thanks Mike.
You're quite right. Writing a plug-in would be a step too far for me! It would probably be safer to bite the bullet and chip away at it manually.

Dick Myhill

Handling Errors in GEDCOM Transfers
I have imported my family file from FTM into FH6 as a GEDCOM file and the first thing I did after the transfer was to review the exception report and try to correct any errors in the data. Most of these I have done successfully. However, I have just discovered when viewing the record list of places ...

Re: Multiple Spouses and Multimedia
Thank you both for your replies. At least I know it isn't something I'm missing. I'm reasonably conversant with Photoshop so I might try something along the lines of David's suggestion.

Multiple Spouses and Multimedia
I'm new to FH6 and new to FHUG but I hope to get along with both. After 20+ years of old versions of Family Tree Maker, FH6 is a steep learning curve! One issue I am struggling with is thumbnail pictures associated with individuals who have more than one spouse. Can anyone tell me whether it's possi...
