Re: Sort order for Place Records
But I'm unsure if a matching anywhere might not bring up too many. Imagine typing "Cheshire..." and getting all the partial matches to "Cheshire". Having what I had called a "Sort Order Name" as well as the ordinary name might suffice by providing just two options. Except that in the example you're...

Re: Sort order for Place Records
Proposal: Place Records should be provided with an optional "sort order name". (I would enter "the Haslington Chapel..." as the Place Name, so it is used in narrative sentences and enter "Haslington Chapel..." as the sort name). Then the Places tab should show the places in an order defined by the ...

Re: FamilySearch Id
(2) The FS Family Tree (FSFT) is becoming the definitive family tree of all mankind, as its many initial data errors are being eliminated.   Not trying to be cruel, but my wife has spent many many hours at FSFT correcting entries relating to members of her family, only for the error...

Re: New FindMyPast Premium Subscription
My sub was supposedly due to renew in the middle of last night, and I'd arranged to get it upgraded to Premium at the same time for a cost of £199.99 less 15% = £169.99. It didn't actually go through their system until this afternoon, but otherwise it happened as planned and I now have the full Prem...

Re: Flag in chart
I hadn't thought of copying and pasting - and that works with Webdings and other fonts. In the text scheme, change the font to the one you're using, adjust the size and colour, then just copy and paste the character in the Template field. Re: Flag in chart
It’s possible to display a word in the text box to indicate the existence of a flag, but it’s not possible to show icons inside the box. For example to indicate the presence of an ‘Adopted’ flag, you can add a <custom item> to the Text scheme, enter ‘Adopted’ in the Template field and tick Flag Con...

I'm not on Facebook either, but like so many other organisations, Lincolnshire Archives use that and other social media to give news and updates. Fortunately they use a public page that anyone can see.

There's a message pinned at the top of the Archives' Facebook page saying that they're planning to bring the images back, but I didn't notice anything that looked like a firm timescale.

Re: New FindMyPast Premium Subscription
Hi all, I spoke to FindMyPast just now as my pro subscription expires 26 October 2022. They could not upgrade the renewal to a Premium subscription - the advice I received was to allow the renewal to go through as usual with the 15% loyalty discount, then upgrade at the rate of £19.99 - they could ...

Re: New FindMyPast Premium Subscription
Edit - Caution, I have just tried to upgrade, and it tells me that I will be charged £19.99 today and then £199.99 less discount in 2 days' time - I think I will wait a couple of days!! I am now wondering whether the additional amount for the annual subscription is more than £19.99. If you qualify ...

Re: Breaking a SOURCE into smaller elements
<t>Glad it was helpful. I'm not sure why I put 'demerge' as a more obvious word might have been 'split' - but then you'd have got all the discussions about splitting and lumping. I don't remember thinking about that when I started the thread.<br/> <br/> Anyway, the solution that I was offered worked...

Re: Breaking a SOURCE into smaller elements
I don't think I can offer any detailed advice myself, but this sounds very similar to the issue I asked about in relation to the England & Wales GRO Index, in this thread: 20346|GRO & FreeBMD sources - how to demerge B, M & D The advice I received was very helpful, and there's a link to a plug-in (b...

Bumping this as these issues might have been overlooked:
(a) whether some items should be moved from Gedcom Tools to Website Generators
(b) possible new link for Webtrees (if anyone has used it)

Website Generators
I was taking a look at Services & Utilities > Website Generator tools, but discovered that some are listed under Services & Utilities > Gedcom Tools. Would it make more sense to move them? Re: Amazon Fire tablet - view GEDCOM data
I use GED explorer as it works well with FH data, including media. Make sure you have FH set to save in UTF8 and you can simply copy the Project folder over. Thanks, I do have mine set to UTF-8, but does this mean there's an error in the KB article at GedExplorer , which states that GEDExplorer "wo...

I used an app called "Fire Toolbox" and it was very easy to install Google play onto the fire app so I can now run any of the apps I have paid for on my phone on my fire also. I don't use any app like this, but the KB section you were looking for is in Links > Gedcom Tools. Amazon Fire tablet - view GEDCOM data
My iPad is getting long in the tooth, so for about a third of the price of a new one (and with the help of a special offer) I've just bought a Fire tablet. Can anyone recommend an app for viewing GEDCOM data on this, please? The Fire app store has 4 suggestions for apps for viewing GEDCOM files: Gen...

Re: Amending Census dates
The Search and Replace plugin should do it. Using the Major options, select Census (INDI.CENS) and Date fields, then work through one census at a time.
If you have Family census facts you probably do it differently, but this wasn't something I needed to explore.

Re: "lumping" households within same census
I'm currently tidying up my census sources after splitting them, and adding transcripts and media links. I've come across a related issue, where there are two households (both of interest to me) at the same house/dwelling/property/address. I had been planning to have a separate source for each house...
