Re: Format Individual Summary Report Dates & Media
In the report options/Format/Format for dates if I use either Long or Compact with very long dates eg "btw 1 sep 1964 and 1 Aug 1968 (aged 11-15)" the text overprints the next column. The date column doesn't word wrap. Is there any way to change this apart from using an abbreviated date format? I n...

Re: Place and Address - Appearance in Reports etc.
This gets better by the minute
Many thanks for what you're doing on this - your plug-in sounds as though it will deal with many of my issues, and if I do make a permanent move to FH, it's certainly one that I'd want to use.

Re: Place and Address - Appearance in Reports etc.
Arthur, if I understand your question correctly, that is what Tools > Work with Data is for. When you Edit any Address (or Place ) all instances in the GEDCOM will be changed. Click the Help button in that dialogue for a fuller explanation. OK, but if you start with the fictional "23 Quebec Terrace...

Re: User-defined events/facts from RootsMagic
Thanks - I'd assumed the Delete button would do something more drastic so had kept well clear of it, but it does in fact do exactly what I wanted.

Re: User-defined events/facts from RootsMagic
Valid custom Facts such as your _ATTR are imported correctly, are listed in Tools > Fact Types , and can be added to other Individuals , but there is a trick! In the Event/Attribute List window ensure the buttons on right are shown by clicking More>> if necessary, then tick Show Hidden . Click the ...

Re: Place and Address - Appearance in Reports etc.
Thanks for the further comments. A couple more things I'd like to know, please: When converting single-field locations to Place and Address, is there any automatic (or at least easy) way to do this so that all instances of a particular address can be changed at once, or is it a case of changing one,...

User-defined events/facts from RootsMagic
I haven't so far found anything here on the following issue, and I thought it was distinct enough to warrant its own topic. In RM I resisted using shared events and witnesses, mainly because of murmurings about them not being well-supported in GEDCOM or about the information not always being display...

Re: Place and Address - Appearance in Reports etc.
Thank you for your comments, Derek - what you describe, and what I seem to have been doing, may not in some senses be strictly "correct", but if it works for us, and if anyone else who looks at the data can work out what we mean, is it wrong? Having a consistent Address and Place columns regime is e...

Re: Property Box - showing sources
Thanks for the reply: You suggestion for an additional More column to numerate Source Citations is a nice idea, but Source Citations can be linked to a lot more than just Facts , and the yellow Sources pane does identify them all. Click on the Sources box at the top, and the drop-down lists all item...

Re: RootsMagic user considering switch to FH
Thanks for the tips - I'd already found some (not all) of the items you suggest but it's good to know I'm on the right track. What I'd also find quite helpful would be if there was anyone else who had fairly recently switched from RootsMagic, who would be happy to comment on the kind of issues they ...

Property Box - showing sources
I'm currently using the trial version of FH as a possible replacement for RootsMagic. There's a feature which RM has (and some other programs do too) that I haven't so far found in FH, and I'm wondering if I've missed something. In these other programs, where a person's facts/events are listed in th...

Re: Place and Address - Appearance in Reports etc.
I'm currently considering FH as a replacement for RootsMagic, and I'm trying to work out the best way to deal with my current list of Places and Addresses. Until fairly recently I kept all location data in a single Place field in RM, and most of it is still like that, but I've started to enter new i...

RootsMagic user considering switch to FH
Hi everyone I've been using the trial version of FH for a week or so and have come up with a few questions. Over the past 15 years or so I've spent time with various programs: Brother's Keeper, Generations, Legacy, and for the last 8 years or so RootsMagic (now v.6). I have a few questions, mainly a...
