Re: Marriage Licence wording in Records Window
I've had a reply from Calico Pie, and it explains how to configure the column in the Record window: Extra columns are configured by right-clicking on the background of the relevant tab, and choosing 'Columns'. To get what you want, you need to set the expression used for the 'Marr Lic' column to =Co...

Re: Marriage Licence wording in Records Window
Mike - thanks for confirming my observation.
I've reported it to Calico Pie with a reference to your report, and will see what happens.

Marriage Licence wording in Records Window
I'm using Windows 10, FH 6.2.7, and the International setting is correctly at English - UK. I ran a Fact query recently to find instances of a Marriage Licence - there was just a single row: Exclude unless =FactLabel (%FACT%) contains 'licence' One of the columns in the results was configured to sho...

Re: US or British Navy ++
From a quick play with contrast/levels etc, the photographer at bottom right can be made out as Metropole Studio, Cardiff. As is usual, the cap appears to have the name of the man's ship on it, but I can't get a clear result with that. Are you able to do a very high definition scan of just that bit,...

Re: Update Source and All Linked Citations > Where Within The Source
Mike I should have mentioned if it is a certificate the certificate number is placed at the beginning of the data in the Where Within Source so quickly becomes apparent and useful. The certificate number you quoted (DK 848199) refers to the physical piece of paper that you have, but this is similar...

Re: Zoom Factor When Opening Report
I'm reluctant to play around with this in case I end up with something that takes ages to sort out (and I'm currently trying to concentrate on a fairly lengthy research task), but I did notice that it was possible to reduce the size of the report window (ie non-maximised) so that Page Width was the ...

Re: Zoom Factor When Opening Report
I can't find a setting or Help item relating to this, but if you put it on the Wish List, I'd vote for it.
Incidentally, I think the zoom factor may relate to the size of your monitor/window. My reports open at the Page Width preset, and I suspect yours are doing too, but for me that's 173%.

Re: Charts - straight lines? Snap to grid?
Are you simply trying to do a single line of descent rather than a full Ancestry up all lines? If so you might get on better starting from a How Related diagram not showing siblings. Then use the Spouse "swap" movement option to get a more direct line It was mostly a single line, though in a couple...

Re: Charts - straight lines? Snap to grid?
I wondered about this, but found I could get the same effect when using Fork style.
(I tried this before writing my previous post but I can’t post a screenshot as I’m on a tablet at present.)

Re: Charts - straight lines? Snap to grid?
The type of diagram is really only incidental to the issue, but since you mention it, here's a snip from an Ancestor Chart from the sample project. This effect is easy to reproduce by enabling the Movement Control Box and simply clicking the white dot on a descent line and dragging it around.

Charts - straight lines? Snap to grid?
I don't often work with diagrams and charts, but recently needed to produce a small and simple ancestor chart (single sheet of A4, top to bottom). It was a lot trickier than I expected. The main problem was that it seemed impossible to drag boxes to exactly where I wanted them, and when I did get th...

Re: Root
The Root person in your file is the one that appears in the Focus window when you first launch the program, and from whom all relationships are calculated. It can easily be changed. If viewing either the Focus window or the Records window, select the person you want to be the Root, then click Edit i...

Re: My Heritage Hints not working
I don't actually use the Hints feature so can't comment on whether or how they work, but what John reports may not be totally surprising. A couple of years ago, My Heritage bought the company behind Legacy Family Tree, and they also have their own Family Tree Builder software, so to expect them to p...

Re: Printing an ancestors chart from the Focus window
It is possible to save a snip as a pdf file - look in the File > Print menu in the Snipping Tool. You may well have a Microsoft Print to PDF option (mine came as part of Windows 10), and Family Historian also installs a PDF creator. These tools are sometimes called virtual printers, which is why you...

Re: Comparing trees without merging them
As mentioned above, I'd use GENMATCHER from MudCreek Software. Not free, but very cheap. Built for just this purpose (comparing GEDCOM files). Has saved me hours of time in the past. The website invites you to download a free trial, but doesn't seem to say if that's the full version, or if there ar...

Re: Comparing trees without merging them
If you compare the files with a Notepad++ plugin, or some other standalone utility, would it only be feasible if the records to be compared were listed in exactly the same order in each file? And even if you did find a way of using something like that, I suspect you might still need to scroll throug...

Is this the kind of thing that GENMatcher from Mudcreek Software might be able to do?
I've never used it, though I've sometimes found GENViewer from the same company quite useful.

On 31 August he married Rose Ann Moonan at the Church of St Francis de Sales. Witnesses present: Denis J Callan, Elizabeth Moonan.
This kind of note is common in RC baptism registers. In this case, the priest forgot to put the year of the marriage, but it's listed at FreeBMD in Sep qtr 1938.

Re: A simple to-do list
I've found this thread interesting, though devising a list is beyond me. This may well be my only contribution to the thread, but I thought I'd throw it in because David's comments about reminders and integration got me thinking. I use a simple offline calendar program called UK's Kalender (UK is th...

Re: Addresses used with a particular place
Another idea if you are mainly interested in one Place at a time is the Where Used Records List Plugin. Rather like your Query , it lists all the Facts , etc, which use that Place and includes a Fact Address column. Thanks - I already have that one but had forgotten that it includes Addresses. Your...
