Re: Advice on Best Report Formats
Thanks - I do see your point but unfortunately for all sorts of reasons our families are generally lacking in really interesting information and we have virtually no photographs or stories. All that I have is the information gained from certificates, census FMP, Ancestry etc together with one army r...

Advice on Best Report Formats
I am proposing to publish my research to give to family in the form of a professionally printed tree and book. Does anyone have good advice for the best way to do this as there are so many options such as: Ancestors by generation or Descendants by generation or A mixture by perhaps doing Ancestors b...

Dates on photos of buildings
I have been putting a date in the media properties box date field, for photos of buildings, such as ancestors houses that are still standing. The problem is that when that photo is linked to a person, reports show that date, which may be 2015 if taken recently, as if it were a date of a photo taken ...

Ver 6.2 Source Pane - Opening media in Editor/Player
In the source pane, with the revised options to open media in Editor/Player, the list of media for a source only shows the first 13. Whilst this is normally a reasonable number I have a few instances where I have lots of documents that are linked to a particular source. Can the list available be ext...

Re: Simplify Diagram
Having just come across my first instance of first cousins marrying, I have to ask why it is not possible for it to be recognised that this is the case and for the diagram to show it correctly, without duplicates, but with the tree spreading out and coming together again. Is it simply a case that it...

Re: Removal of slashes to surname in Version 6.1.4
Thanks Mervyn, it would have been helpful if the upgrade information mentioned it could be an option although I suppose the words "by default" was meant to imply that. I personally find the slashes helpful

Removal of slashes to surname in Version 6.1.4
The removal of the slashes does give a tidier appearance to the name field. However, when naming a person with (Snr) or (Jnr) at the end of the name to differentiate between grandfather, father and son, all with the same name, it was helpful. To achieve this now the slashes need to be put in manuall...

Re: Fact type for crime events
Thanks. I have created a satisfactory COURT APPEARANCE fact similar to your suggestion with sentence template "{individual} had a {label} {date} {place} {age}. {note}" The Note field contains all the detail of the crime and punishment. Can then also be used for other reasons for being in court, such...

Fact type for crime events
Is there a suitable fact type available for use in recording criminal acts and similar events, or can someone give advise on creating a suitable custom fact type. I have an ancestor that appeared in court and wish to record the details.
Thanks

Re: Fact type like Emmigration
It may be helpful to give exact context. A mother emigrated from Jamaica leaving her only son, 2 years old, with her elderly mother. 10 years later (aged 12) the son emigrated as grandmother could not care for him any more. I have both mother and son in my tree but I want to put an event fact in the...

Fact type like Emmigration
Is it possible to create an Event Fact type similar to Immigration/Emigration so that both To and From fields are included with appropriate code such that a Immigration/Emigration relating to another person can also be recorded in the same way. It would then read as "John Smith immigrated TO London ...

Re: Adding a fact type for a book reference
Thanks Mike, I've used your suggestion of a custom event fact with code "{his/her} Family History was written {date} {place} {address}" which by using the address field for the author gives me "Her Family History was written in 2015 in New Zealand by Mary Hutching". I can then access the document vi...

Re: Adding a fact type for a book reference
Mike, The individual that I wish to attach the document to did not have this as a possession, but this is a family history report about her family written recently, rather like a report from FH. So as part of my tree I am attaching a written report of another tree. It is really what I would call a F...

Adding a fact type for a book reference
I have a family history reference book (62 pages in pdf) from a very distant relative (common ancestor is great (x4) grandfather) and I would like to add this to my project as a pdf file with a Family History reference fact against the family member that links us. Adding the pdf file appears easy bu...

Inheritance fact
Has anyone any advice how to enter details of an individuals inheritance so as to trace the "family silver"
It needs to have fields for Date, Inherited from, and item as a minimum.

Problem of adding a SECURED pdf document

Cornwall Family History Society transcribed records are only available in an Adobe SECURED format that prevents any copying, printing or editing of any sort. (This ...

Re: Recording Military Facts
Having read all the suggestions, my conclusion is that if you have a long military history to record with precise detail then Richards view is best. If like my ancestor the military career was for just a few years and a relatively small number of events are recorded then Lorna's method will suffice....
