Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Jane, Thanks but not an option at this stage nor appropriate. My family history "publication" which I have been putting together for 2 years is all arranged in volumes of families, groups of ancestors etc and reports from FH go alongside the appropriate chart which is why they are to be put into A4 ...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Mike, To answer your point, the custom width and height on the page tab is 168.2 x 87.7. Maybe I do not fully understand the process of pdf but I am looking at the problem simplistically. I regard the pdf as the chart and the background area as generated without any adjustments to default margins. I...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
After using Diagram Save As > PDF File the settings in the Print dialogue shown by the Properties button on the Page tab are all for margins of 0. I appreciate that the pdf page adjusts to the tree. As I said previously, when I said a nominal small border on the other 3 sides it was not meant as a m...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Mike, For some reason some of my posts have disappeared, or at least I cannot see them. You posed a question about what were the FH PDF Printer\Printer Properties\Page tab\Margins. I attach a further screen shot showing all the dialog box settings although the one I sent before has disappeared. Yes ...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
I appreciate what Lorna said about the pdf being created to fit the chart. When I said a nominal small border on the other 3 sides it was not meant as a must but as a minimum as I appreciate it will change dependant on chart size. I really cannot see why the single page pdf, with its background at t...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Mike, Sorry to labour this but I tried these adjustments previously and also again after your last post. I do not understand why but whilst the margins are modified in Diagram > Options > Print to give the border I need on the binding edge, it starts to chop of the opposite side of the chart, or pus...

Re: White Margins on PDF saved charts
Lorna. Thanks. I have tried your suggestion but I must not be doing it correct. Firstly, when I have a small chart that fits automatically onto A4 as landscape when saved, it shows in FH as portrait making adjustment difficult. Also, having moved the chart, or so I thought it made no difference. Mik...

White Margins on PDF saved charts
Most of my saved pdf charts are less than A4 in height and I want to be able to print them with a larger margin on the left so as they can be bound into a A4 folder. Some are actually A4 size if printed landscape. As standard the pdfs are always centred on the page and I have tried all sorts of adju...

Re: Deleting temp file
Mike, I had read "Knowledge Base > Single Page PDF of a Diagram", but effectively it seems you are saying to install a pdf writer that can allow a page bigger than the 3.2 m approx. of FH. Alternatively I know I can adjust the scaling to about 35% and other dimensions which would put the diagram on ...

Re: Deleting temp file
My longest charts are actually 4.8 m & 5.3 m even after scaling to 70%, so saving as pdf in FH makes them at least 2 pages. I have played around with options but not yet got them onto single page.

Re: Deleting temp file
Mike, Sorry, I may be missing something but you mentioned "Select yourself and choose Add Relatives > Ancestors for just direct line ancestors" but I cannot see this option in either the FH export process or you plugin. What I am trying to do is select my great x 3 grandfather and then get a chart w...

Re: Deleting temp file
Thanks Mike, your comments will be useful. The only reason I was sending it to My-History was that they specifically asked for embedded media files as my longest charts cannot be saved as single page pdf in FH as they are over the 10ft pdf support limit. Saving them as pdf just creates a mixed up ch...

Thanks. Will Mikes plug in help reduce size of the gedcom file which is currently 5.2 GB or 3.4 GB if zipped, as My-History web upload will not accept a single file so large

Re: Deleting temp file
Thanks. As a matter of interest, as exported gedcom files are created in the public folder, I presume the live gedcom file is the one in my McLeod Family Tree.fh_data folder. Just so I know never to touch it. Also, is the easiest way of creating an exported gedcom with selected media only for only t...

Re: Deleting temp file
File was created by using File\Import/Export\Export\Gedcom File and with Media Records drop down set for Embed Media Records in Export File. This was requested by My-History who are investigating doing some large chart printing. The file was exported to the default location and I found the file in m...

Deleting temp file
After running an export of my gedcom with embedded media I see there appears to be a large .tmp file created in Family Tree\Public folder.
Am I correct to presume that this can be deleted

Re: Unable to load object
Mike, I deleted the file and it was large 1GB but it has not solved the problem. When FH was started again it recreated the file at 10MB but the back up error still persists. I am running V 6.2.3 on Win 7 64 bit. I cannot be sure but I think this problem may have started intermittently after updatin...

Re: Unable to load object
I have a problem with doing a full back up as it gives a message "unable to open ...........\cache\Thumbcache.dat with an option to skip the file. Is this file important in a full back up and what is causing the problem I read elsewhere in this discussion that deleting the file will do no harm as it...
