Re: Windows 10
Well, following my initial question about MSVCR100.dll being missing, I un-installed and re-installed various C++ packages, the missing dll file and Family Historian in various combinations without success. I eventually gave up and did a clean install of Windows 10 using the instructions at http://w...

Re: Windows 10
I upgraded to Windows 10 in my laptop last night and am now having problems running FH6. Continually getting an error message about a missing, corrupt or wrong version of MSVCR100.dll. I have uninstalled and re-installed FH6

Re: List names by place
Just jumping in to say thanks for this question and the answers. I've just come across someone who died away from home and, looking at the list of places in the records tab, I could see that there were several other links to that place but couldn't work out how to find out what they were. I've susse...

Re: Auto-text templates and associated individuals
Thanks for clarifying Nick. That's not a problem - I was just trying to get as much as possible into the auto-text to save on transcription and typo errors but I realise that it would be unrealistic to expect the auto-text to cover everything

Auto-text templates and associated individuals
I've been creating an auto-text template (in Ancestral Sources V 5) for the much fuller information provided in Scottish death certificates for 1855 and have come across a puzzle. I can successfully use the {ASSOCLIST[Parent death].COMMACR} keyword to add the names of the deceased's children to the ...

Re: Place and Address - Appearance in Reports etc.
Unfortunately I've got a lot of isolated Caithness hamlets (or probably fermtouns) to deal with at the moment that Google maps don't recognise (although they may well appear on a standard Google search), so I've been using the ScotlandsPlaces website (http://www.scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/) and CANMORE ...

Re: Place and Address - Appearance in Reports etc.
Thanks Mike - it's working now (once I'd remembered to add some rows!). Very useful for assessing how well and/or consistently I've been using the Address and Place fields. Incidentally, I've been playing with your Map Life Facts plugin and have found a useful online tool to convert British National...

Re: Place and Address - Appearance in Reports etc.
I must be having a very thick day. Mike wrote: One big advantage of formal columns is the Tools > Work with Data > Places /Address window. This allows sorting by column, which is useless if there is no formal regime. But with a regime you can, taking your example, sort all the Leeds Addresses togeth...

Re: Death entries - marital status of deceased
Wow! Thanks very much Mike and Nick. Nick, I've only been using FH and AS since the New Year (I'm a TMG refugee) and didn't realise I could edit the templates. I'll give it a go. If I create some additional Scottish-focused templates for parish registers would the "auto" button in the "text" field p...

Death entries - marital status of deceased
I've been quite happily entering the the marital status of the deceased in the second tab of the death form, but I've noticed that when I use the "widow" drop-down option for the "individual marriage status" this appears as "married to" when I automatically generate the source text using the Scottis...

Re: how to precede a role with a/an in witness sentences
Thanks, Mike. I was using the Probate event as my example, I didn't think of using marriage - duh!
I'm used to using roles and sentences from TMG so the principles are familiar, I just need to learn my way around the new systems and structures of FH.

how to precede a role with a/an in witness sentences
Hi, I'm a new FH user and a TMG exile. I've been creating some new facts to cope with Scottish records and can't find a way to precede a role name with "a/an" in witness sentences eg "{individual} was {role name} of the will of {principal} {date} {place}" where {role name} is executor. The help says...
