Re: FHUG website slow
I have a couple of websites hosted by TSOhost which are working OK. TSOhost have posted a notice saying that there are problems with some websites and give the likely IP Addresses but as far as I can tell FHUG is not in that range. However they may not be aware that other IP addresses are affected s...

Re: Workhouses and Census's
Not sure if you have had a look at the website workhouses.org.uk as suggested earlier but there is a section on the workhouses in Norwich. Even better, there is a list of inmates for 1881 at http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Norwich/Norwich1881.shtml#Inmates EDIT: Have just found the 1861 census for the ...

Re: The Theory of Eight
I feel a bit bereft as I only have five and two of those are Lummis, the others being Collins, Frost and Godbold. By way of explanation both my parents had the surname of Lummis (their common ancestor was born in the 18th century). I do not know the name of my paternal grandfather as my father was i...

Re: Wills Property Box Tab
But I would add one more thing - wills may appoint not just executors but also trustees. I've not tried to record trustees as "witnesses" (in the FH sense) to probate events yet, but I forsee a potential issue if people can only be reported in one witness role per event???? Adrian, wouldn't the ans...

I have just looked on the GRO Index pages where you would normally order a certificate (https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/cert ... search.asp) and could only find Drusilla Tar Hawes listed in the last quarter of 1843 in Wangford. Where did you get the other details from?

Re: Problems with extended families in AS
I have been out most of the day and the topic has moved on. Whilst agreeing with Mike that you cannot annotate the adopted, step or birth relationship in FH via AS, you can do everything else. It is possible to add a new set of parents in AS in addition to those already recorded. So if you enter all ...

Re: Problems with extended families in AS
Sorry Mike, I don't really follow what you are saying about being a step-child. Although I realise that "step" can be added as a relationship in the Focus Window, I have never used this on re- marriage . That would be confusing as the children would be listed under both marriages and only differenti...

Re: Problems with extended families in AS
Such as when one of the existing parents needs a new spouse with existing children as step-children. So for these more complex families, enter the fundamental relationships in FH before using AS. Then you can set the step/adoptive/foster details and create new parents, etc, more easily. Mike, just ...

Not sure if this will be helpful but I believe that Lloyds Register may record deaths of seamen as well as ships lost. Unfortunately I don't have access to their records although I did find at https://hec.lrfoundation.org.uk/archive-library/casualty-returns that the Norwegian ship Thalatta was lost ...

Your attachment shows a topic that has been read. If you have any unread posts you can go to Quick Links at the top right of this page and the drop down menu includes "Unread Posts". If you click that item it then gives a summary page of all unread posts and you should see that there is an orange sq...

I suspect what happened is that Bill read a posting, but by his next visit somebody had added a Reply that needed reading. If Bill had not scrolled through all the postings, then on 2nd visit he won't know for sure whether one had been added or not. If you click the small square next to the subject...

@Senelstune
Have you tried the Delete Witnesses for Role Plugin provided earlier in this thread? It worked for me so unless you had a different setup in TMG it should work for you. Please make a backup before running the Plugin just in case there are some unexpected results.

Re: Male child with just a surname on a Birth Certificate
As it is a copy from the GRO I think that I would phone the Registrars Office where the original registers are held to see if they would have a look at the register to check for any possible annotations. You may be lucky and get hold of a helpful person who would like to assist in establishing why a...

Re: Male child with just a surname on a Birth Certificate
Like Mike, I am always curious when the unusual turns up. Just a couple of thoughts that you may have already covered but maybe worth saying. 1) Was there a subsequent registration of the name? 2) Is the birth certificate an original or a certified copy and if the latter did it come from the Registr...

I do know what happened to my parents. Before the war they lived above a shop where my father was manager. Just to add that if you use Gedsite fhugdownloads:contents:utility_gedsite|> Utility ~ GedSite the embedded contact system details the page that was open at the time the email link was clicked which if it happens to be a page containing details of a person will include the person's name and ID. Re: Source Record ID Numbers missing or wrongly assigned after import from TMG
I am with Mike Loney on this as, in FH, I never need to refer back to the original image as it can be called up from within the program. Yes, I do keep the original images but in a named file system and not a reference or ID form but that is only there if the unthinkable happens and I lose everythin...

I think that the last word is acres - here is an extract of the previous page on the census
Compare 'acres' in that extract with the one in your image and I think they are very similar, so my conclusion is that it is 'Farmer of eight acres'

Re: Query to Identify Totally Unlinked Individuals
Mike (Tatewise) Thought I would try this query and was surprised to find that I had over 500 orphans in my project of just over 5000 individuals. Having wondered how I had accumulated so many I then realised that if I then filtered out those that were entered as part of a census the numbers dropped ...
