Re: Publishing report
There must be something that hasn't been passed on to the Beta testers! My recently downloaded FH7 now has Lawrence George Buchanan DAVIS as Record ID No. 1. Perhaps someone needs to check with Calico Pie as I can't be the only person with the new Sample Project called SAMPLE_UK and we could find ou...

Re: Publishing report
Having just looked at the Sample Project, it does not seem to have different GRO sources in FH7. It now lumps the 3 that you mention into "INDEX General Register Office BMD" and places all the details into the Text from Source tab. The Where Within item is left blank. It could be argued that "Birth"...

I haven't tried it in FH but the standard shortcut for pasting unformatted text is Ctrl+Shift+V

Re: Publishing report
BTW:It is more conventional to put such references in the Where Within Source field which is enabled by default for that reason. I have always thought this to be wrong! The source is the GRO Index and, if that is how you describe the source, then Where Within Source should be "Birth", "Marriage" or...

Re: Information re a historic Birth Certificate application.
One other possible need for a birth certificate is proof of age to a life insurance company. This was sometimes done at the time of taking out a policy or would be a requirement of a lender if the person had taken out a loan and the policy was to be used as security. From my banking career I can rec...

Re: Is FH As Good As We Think
My apologies if I am lengthening this discussion but I wouldn't want William a to think he is without some support for his views. I also think that bugs could be fixed in a much more timely way but maybe it is because I am spoilt by the owner of a piece of software that I use for designing websites....

Re: How to best link sources to each other?
I must say that I use the literal meaning of repository which is where the document is stored. That is more likely to be a more static location, such as a Record Office, and makes it much easier for anyone else looking for the document to be able to find it. Citing Ancestry is not very helpful for s...

Re: New Source Record
As an alternative you could use the free program FTAnalyzer http://ftanalyzer.com/ which automates the upload to Lost Cousins as well as a a lot of other things. One caveat is that you will need to check what has been uploaded, for example different spelling of names or wrong ages, as it uploads wha...

Re: Are English parish record images online?
Good question, Bill, but I am afraid I don't know the answer. On the same page and in the same handwriting some entries have "the son of" or "the daughter of" following the name and others have a similar shorthand as you describe. I am guessing that it may be some Latin abbreviation but someone with...

Re: Function to split text strings in to parts (not commas)
Where is it defined that Census refs must be separated using / slash and can't have leading zeroes? Although not defined, the practice of using slashes started in 1841 when the class reference HO107 was followed by a piece number which was in two parts being the box number and the folder - these 3 ...

Re: Function to split text strings in to parts (not commas)
Just thinking out aloud, would it help to achieve your objective to manipulate the data in Excel? That way you could use the standard query for 'Source Record - All' and export it as a csv file. However it does depend what your final objective, is as the data wouldn't be sorted in FH and any changes...

Re: FH7 Looks?
I came to FH from TMG which really did have an old fashioned look. However it had many supporters as it was one of the most practical bits of software to use and for the most part it was easy to access and manipulate the information that had been inputted by the user. For me, the practical use of so...

Re: Liverpool Electoral Register - 1939/1940
Maybe the following extract from Mark Herber's "Ancestral Trails" might shed more light. The franchise for elections to Parliament was extended in 1832, 1867 an 1884. In 1832 the vote in the boroughs was given to a wider range of those men having an interest in property, including all male household...

Adrian, take a look at http://www.electoralregisters.org.uk/codes.htm which states the following (note occupation means occupation of a property, nothing to do with employment) I think that bears out your thinking and is what I have always understood to be the case. Brian EDIT - My understanding is ...

If you want the definitive answer wade your way through https://www.bl.uk/voices-of-science/britishlibrary/~/media/subjects%20images/government%20publications/pdfs/parliamentaryconstituencies.pdf :) There should be a code by each name giving the reason why they qualified to vote . Mike, that gives a good instance as to how to fall at the first hurdle. :) I was unaware that the title needed to fit the sidebar and now that I know I can't find any reference to the number of characters allowed in either the Contribute your Knowledge item or the DokuWiki article about the Sidebar....

Re: Improving Accessibility of Commonly Requested Help
To me it is just a slight change - how about Contributing to the FHUG Knowledge BaseContribute Your Knowledge specifically says it relates to the Knowledge Base in each of its first three paragraphs.
Can you suggest how it could make that point clearer. It is an important concept.

Re: Highlight complete selected row in Records Window
I would prefer something that works out of the box rather than have to introduce a workaround. One thing that has crossed my mind is that the Records Window is not a straightforward table but is one that is expandable to show additional lines for each entry, so the alternative line shading may be a ...

Re: Highlight complete selected row in Records Window
Just to say that I agree that the Records Window could be improved to assist with following a record line on a large screen. Most tabulated output in other software (& web pages) does tend to have at least a contrasting colour or shade on alternate lines which helps but being able to click a name wh...
