Re: Deleting Role Witnesses
It looks as though I have exercised the grey matter this morning! I could find very few references to manipulating witness data, hence my call for help. I am still trying to get more proficient with the use of Queries but I can follow the logic of what you were trying to achieve. Apart from assistin...

Re: Deleting Role Witnesses
Many thanks Mike for coming to my rescue again. All worked as expected and I hope that my request was not too much of a challenge. Maybe the Plugin will be of use to others who find themselves in the same situation as me. It was not until I started to look at one of the reports that I noticed that t...

Re: Deleting Role Witnesses
Thanks Lorna and Mike. Mike has summed up my problem and, as I feared, it is another case where only a plugin will come to the rescue!

Deleting Role Witnesses
When importing my data from TMG some months ago, it brought across the all the roles which included "Bride" and "Groom" for each marriage. These roles are superfluous in FH, particularly as they have an undesirable effect in some Reports. Is there a way to delete these roles en bloc? I know that I c...

Re: Advice required on when to install V6
I think that you need to have a look at Microsoft's licensing terms before upgrading to Windows 10. My understanding is that you can only upgrade your existing machine and not transfer it to a new machine. I believe that the critical component is the motherboard which Microsoft has already logged wh...

Re: V6.2 Download
Mike L - I am wondering if Peanuts has taken the upgrade path to get to Windows 10 as this can have unexpected results. To get rid of the problems that I had, it was necessary to carry out a fresh install. I would however expect there to be no difficulties in installing FH on a new computer.

Re: V6.2 Download
I wonder if this is another case of a gremlin creeping in with the free upgrade to Windows 10. I am of course making an assumption that you have upgraded and are not installing onto a fresh install of Windows 10.

Re: Working with source citation copies
Just a thought as this subject of source and citation caused me some difficulty when starting out with FH. If adding a source in the Properties Window the method of adding a note to that source is hidden but the citation is shown below. It took me a little while to realise that if I clicked the Blue...

Can someone clarify whether the new book 6 comes with tutorial files? There is no mention of them on the Calicoe Pie website or in the description of the book.

Re: FH 6.2 - FindMyPast Hints
I am sure that the hints will be very helpful when adding a new individual but at the moment I am finding that the majority of the hints are for facts that are already recorded. It would be useful to me if it was possible on the summary page of the hints if I could tick each one that I am happy to a...

Re: Can online services support FH research?
As it appears that you are in the UK you may well find that your local library has free access to Ancestry and/or Find My Past so you may be able to test drive them there. However you are unlikely to be able to download images so ultimately a subscription or pay per view will be your best option. Br...

Many thanks, Mike for expanding on your suggestion. I can see the merits in having something that adjusts automatically as the memory is getting overloaded with age!

Re: Individual Missing from Census
John - Many thanks for that suggestion. Being a relative newcomer, I have not as yet got round to using flags but it is on my to do list. I quite like the idea of a visual reminder. Mike - Am I correct in assuming that your suggestion will eliminate the person from the Missing Census Facts Plugin re...

Individual Missing from Census
I would like to know how other people deal with individuals who are missing from a census or cannot be entered as the census return is missing. As I am only using Find My Past (I am a subscriber) there is a chance that the name has been incorrectly indexed, although I have looked at all the alternat...

Re: Age of all individuals
Sorry Mike - I used the wrong terminology as it wasn't a Query but using the Expression in the Records Window that gave the high ages. Can these be eliminated via the Expression or is it something that we have to live with.

Re: Age of all individuals
Mike
I thought I would give your Query a try. Is there any way of filtering out estimated ages in excess of say 110 years. I have numerous estimated ages over 100, the oldest being 367 year!
Many thanks

Re: TMG direct import - Source record id start at 1024
From memory I think that it is possible to renumber the sources in TMG reasonably easily. Perhaps by doing that first you will then get sequential numbers starting from 1 in FH when importing the file.

It was option 4 that caught me out as well.
In my defence, I have just carried out a clean install of Windows 10 which meant reinstalling AS and I missed ticking that option!

Re: 1939 Register
I'm not sure if there is a bug somewhere as I had the same sort of experience with dates of birth. I was sure that I had been asked if I wanted to use the birth date this morning but during the day it stopped reminding me. Closing and reopening AS cured the problem but unfortunately I can't remember...

Re: Amending Surnames from CAPITALS to Lower Case in Notes
Many thanks, Mike. The Plugin worked admirably and I now have a much tidier data set.
The way that you manage to resolve all those things that we do unintentionally always amazes me, and your help and support is very much appreciated.

Re: Amending Surnames from CAPITALS to Lower Case in Notes
As far as I can see the only Surnames that need to be changed are those appearing in Text from Source and they are all followed by a comma. As there are also some individual Capital Letters followed by a comma in that field any Plugin would have to ignore those. I am going out today so there is no g...

Re: Amending Surnames from CAPITALS to Lower Case in Notes
As you say, Mike, Find and Replace would be tedious! The shortest name in my data is 3 letters, there are no hyphenated names and only one Mac but that is Mackay. I think that the bulk of the names that I wish to change are in the Text From Source field as I have been downloading Census images and l...

Amending Surnames from CAPITALS to Lower Case in Notes
When I came to FH from TMG about a year ago, the Surnames were in Capital Letters (I can't recall if this was an option on import) and I decided to keep that format. Having read a recent topic about the recording of Surnames, when it was suggested that they should be entered in lower case (apart fro...

Re: 1939 Register on Find My Past
But beware: for new subscribers the price will be increased from £99.50 to £119.95 (for a 12 Month Britain subscription). I imagine that extra £20 will be used to cover the cost of the 1939 register, so it's not really 'at no extra cost' for new users who will have to pay the extra subs even if the...
