Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Mike The Plugin now runs but I have been unable to find any example of a Family with no Marriage Event and 1st Born Child Date is a textual "Date Phrase" with no actual Date. There are however some other inconsistencies. Firstly the Event Data in the Result Set differs from the Individual's own data...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Mike I have just discovered an error message when running v1.0 of the Plugin. The settings used were: Settings.JPG and the error message after selecting the chosen person was: [string "C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\..."]:3957: attempt to perform arithmetic on field 'Span' (a string valu...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Mike Thanks for the explanation of why the Citation element is required. Once again I had jumped to the wrong conclusion. For one, I would be happy with the Plugin as it stands at the moment. This may be a case where it is better to have the possibility of a few "wrong" results rather than changing ...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Mike I have been musing over this and hoped that someone else would chip in, as like you, I am unsure whether simple exact dates with a Qualifier should be included. I can see the possibilities for Approximate (circa) and possibly Estimated where it would help but I am having difficulty in envisagin...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Thanks, Mike, for clarifying that there is already an option to allow a search of those individuals who have a GRO Source to see if any other records are available. I had not thought through the consequence of leaving out the Quarter Date Source Type when running the Plugin. Maybe it needs a slight ...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Mike Having been away all day yesterday, I have now caught up with progress. I have also been reflecting on what can and can't be achieved by the Plugin and trying to clarify my thoughts. As far as pre 1837 events are concerned there appears to be no problem in the results, or in my mind. It is the ...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

I think that I now understand the methodology and given what you say, I think that looping will be more of a hindrance than help. As it stands the Plugin is a very good searching aid and has already found some records that I had previously missed or have only come online in recent months.

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

If you can loop through the Citations that would be very much appreciated. The trouble is that we all have a different way of working which doesn't help when you are trying to write something logical like a Plugin. My rough ordering of Sources is that which gives the closest match to a definitive da...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Mike, I have just got back from a day out so catching up with progress. Having tried the latest version 0.8, I am assuming that you have not as yet implemented the Entry Date filter as my Result Set still has individuals with GRO sources listed. Just to clarify my method of recording sources for BMD...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Mike, I think I have discovered why I am getting a different result than expected. Am I right in thinking that the plugin is looking for Quarter Dates in the date field of the Birth fact and is this overriding the Keyword criteria? Having gone through my Result Set I have no Quarter Dates for the bi...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Thanks for the updated Plugin, Mike. I do use Quarter Dates so thought I would try the new option but I think that I must be doing something wrong. I use Method 2 for recording BMD entries from the GRO Index which should make life simple. The source is named GRO Index and the Source Type is GRO Inde...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Many thanks Mike - it looks as though sanity has returned. :) The Result Set is now much shorter and from the sample I have taken I have not found any "rogue" entries. The Plugin certainly make searching for missing (or in some cases overlooked) records that much simpler and will make sure that I ge...

Re: Windows 10 upgrade upsets FMP Hints

Another guess, which Joy may like to confirm, is that the Windows 10 upgrade took up too much bandwidth causing the loading of hints to stall. My download speed struggles to get to 1 Mbs and I experienced a similar problem whilst the update was downloading. Maybe Joy could confirm that her internet ...

The first two items, Born and Baptised, do not have a citation as the Source is a Transcription where I am using Method 2 with a view to replacing it with a copy of the original Parish Register when it becomes available.

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

I am getting some strange output as well, Mike. I have run the Plugin on a small set of data, being my own ancestors. In one case the Plugin suggests an FMP search for an Birth/Baptism event in 1801 - the persons life dates are recorded as bef1776-bef1827 so I would have expected the search to be fo...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Nantwich Registration District, for instance, covered a multiplicity of churches. You should, however, already have the county and if you have the exact year from the GRO entry, Which is what I was implying in my earlier post. It is unlikely that all the marriage transcriptions and/or images of par...

Re: Automated internet Marriages lookup

Although this may not apply to Roger's records, I record the Place of Marriage as "......... Registration District, County". If I subsequently find details of the exact place then this replaces the Registration District, and leave the original GRO Source and citation, as well as recording the new so...

Having come from The Master Genealogist (TMG) that software had the option of using a shortcut key(F3) to enter repeat data. From memory you could also use F2 to get a list of recent data entered into any particular field. It may well be that this was a feature of the underlying database software th...

Re: TMG census "persons"

Hello Kathleen I am an ex TMG user but I did not use the "family" system for recording census data so not quite sure if my input is going to help! My starting point was that all my census data was in paper form, having started over 25 years ago when storing media files was not the thing to do, and I...

I can quite understand why you would not find the book of use, Mike, as much of it is aimed at the beginner! I have had a look at all the indexed references to Married Names and Marriages and have not come across any mention of the use of brackets. It may be hidden away in one of the tutorials and i...

Re: Surnames in Brackets

Thanks Mike. I think that unless anyone can think of some other good reason to use bracketed surnames I will set up a custom column in the Records Window.

I was just curious that bracketed names had appeared in the Sample Project with no explanation and wondered if I had missed something!

Surnames in Brackets

My normal way of working with new software is to scan read the instructions then start to use the basics and when I think I have a broad idea of how things work I go back to the Manual/Help Files to see what I am missing! With that in mind I have just got a copy of Getting The Most From Family Histo...
