Re: Census Dates
My understanding is that the date of the Census was laid down under the various Census Acts and they were all Sundays from 1841. According to Edward Higgs book A Clearer Sense of the Census published in 1996 by the Public Record Office (as it was known prior to becoming the National Archives), house...

Re: Adding census dates day and month
It seems that Family Search has helped to add to the confusion. Their search page at https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1493745 gives the date as 7th June!

Not sure that it will help but could you post an image of the hint that you are getting just in case it gives someone here a flash of brilliance.

Re: Recording a Certificate with incorrect information
Elaine - am I right in assuming that you are using Ancestral Sources to enter the Father's details? If so I would leave the father's name blank under the Parent's tab and under the Further Info tab entering the purported father under Association and edit the association as "Father as named on the Ce...

It is not clear whether the Civil Marriage/Partnership events are still recorded in the UK GRO Marriage Index or in a separate UK GRO Civil Partnership Index that identifies the associated Certificate. Does anyone know? My main concern is where the Lookup Missing BMD Records Plugin needs to search ...

Although the natural place to look for books is Amazon, I tend to go to Wordery as they offer free postage worldwide and the price is usually lower than Amazon . So for the two books mentioned above, have a look at https://tinyurl.com/kgggzoy and https://tinyurl.com/ltmd4tp I have no connection with...

Re: Spouse problems ;-)
My guess is that you have the alignment of the boxes set to Bottom. If you go to the menu for Diagrams > Options you will find the Alignment in the right top corner of the General Tab - try changing Bottom to Top to see if that gives you the layout you want.

Re: Set Individual as Deceased
And it gets even more confusing if you look at the Glossary in Help :) Record Flag A record flag is like the answer to a Yes/No question for a given record. Family Historian is installed with only 2 record flags: Private and Living, but you can define as many of your own as you want. For example, if...

Re: Sorting Citations based on Surety Assessment
Like Peter, I use Method 2 for recording entries from the GRO Index and have been quite bemused by the discussion in this thread. From my point of view, which others might not agree with, I see very little point in having a copy of the Index page in my Media File. It adds very little to my research ...

It can also help to uncover those instances when a widowed husband made their lives easier when re-marrying by finding someone with the same first name. One of my ancestors had two wives named Kate and I did not realise this until I found with the new GRO Index that the children had a mother with a ...

Re: How to Handle Probate information
Technically, it is the Will that gives details of the Beneficiaries and not the Probate, so I would use that as being the source for detailing the Beneficiaries. The Probate confirms the names of the Executors (usually those named in the will, but not always) and their role should be recorded using ...

As an ex TMG user I think that I understand your dilemma. I have been gradually tidying up my data for the past two years, and that was with an import of 3,000 names, and I am nowhere near finishing! One thing that helped me was to realise that FH works on different principles to TMG, and the best a...

Re: TMG to FH import of Flags
Mike With the recent flurry of activity it looks as though the criteria for the import of Flags has not been updated with the information from Calico Pie in the KB article Import from The Master Genealogist (TMG). Re: TMG to FH import of Flags
I think that I now have the definitive answer to the import of Flags from Calicoe Pie. The first response was: For any given person: ------------------------------ 1. A TMG Flag with value N or ? or blank is discarded and no equivalent flag is set for that person in FH 2. A TMG Flag with value Y pro...

Re: TMG to FH import of Flags
Mike I have been out all day but I have received a response from Calicoe Pie. Unfortunately, one of their stated rules is not what happens in practice so I have gone back seeking clarification. It would appear that there is either an exception to one of the rules or that rule is not working as inten...

I can experiment to see under what conditions Flags are imported but perhaps the best way of getting a definitive answer is to ask Calico Pie. I will drop them a line with the query.

Re: TMG to FH import of Flags
Thinking on this further there are a couple of options that might be viable but are dependent on the criteria used when applying the flag in TMG. It is possible in TMG to change the value of the flag in bulk using Reports . The List of People report allows for the selection of a Flag with a specific...

The 0 to 3 sounds more like the surety value rather than the flag value. Perhaps I had better dig out my old TMG program and fire it up.
