Re: How many sources have you created with Ancestral Sources?
I have 2,423 Source Records and 2,000+ have been created with AS. I seem to recall that 1200+ where created when I moved from TMG and decided to remove all the census entries and replace them with the help of AS to get consistency in my project. The remainder have been created over the last 8 years....

Re: Forum Changes
I don’t mind longer descriptions, but IMO the old v2-4 forums should be deleted altogether, as they just clutter the page. It’s time to let go... There could also be an argument for culling anything over, say, 5 years old as, most probably, any answers may not now be appropriate and already feature...

Re: What is an objective definition of "Splitting"?
May I offer a possible solution to the lengthy discussions on Splitting and Lumping, GEDCOM definitions, and any other philosophical discussions that people might want to debate. On another Forum that I subscribe to, they have an Off Topic Section which can be used for that purpose. In other words i...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums
One of the objectives is to make the Forum more user friendly but I have been unable to find one of the things that would help me and no doubt others, so I am not sure if it is possible. I have a bookmark in my browser to the URL for Unread Posts which I use at least once a day. However it brings up...

Re: Data Reference for YEAR
Thanks Mike
I have tried your suggestion and it gives me the result I was looking for. I did try to read through the FH Help and the FHUG Knowledgebase but I missed that function.

Re: Data Reference for YEAR
Sorry Lorna, I wasn't very clear even though I read through my requirements several times. What I need is a list of individuals that exclude those who have died before a certain date. I have started my query by adding a list of those born after a certain date leaving me with a list of individ...

Data Reference for YEAR
I am using a Query where I am trying to list individuals that have a death date before a given year. In the Rows tab I am using the following expression . "Exclude if %INDI.DEAT.DATE:YEAR% is less than ....." However when I run the query many of the individual are not excluded even though the year o...

Re: Unrelated Individual v Witness in Census
I thought that I might be missing something, Mike. I was thinking that it would apply to each individual's census event but that may be more complicated than connecting it to the head of the household. It may well be that what I thought could be simple has its drawbacks.

Re: Unrelated Individual v Witness in Census
I had not fully considered all the ramifications but I can see that the name only witness would have to be added to the Census fact. I don't think this would impact upon reports as the Witness Sentence is not applicable for 'name only' witnesses. They would simply be unrecorded parties to that censu...

Re: Unrelated Individual v Witness in Census
Thanks Brent, I had missed that option and may be a good workaround.
I am just trying to get it straight in my mind as to whether there is an additional advantage in having the person recorded as a Name Only (_SHAN) Witness which I believe is the case with name only witnesses in marriages.

Unrelated Individual v Witness in Census
Nick I hope that I haven't missed something but when I started using AS, I entered everyone who was not in my project as an unrelated individual. After a few years I realised that those individuals were most probably superfluous so I changed tack and recorded them in a note. Now we have Rich Text in...

Re: 1921 England Census
Whether the 1921 followed suit, I'm not sure - it certainly did something above and beyond swearing people to silence. In an earlier post in 21223|1921 census If you have not already seen the article, I would recommend that you read "Putting the 1921 Census online - the inside story" in the Lost Co...

If you have not already seen the article, I would recommend that you read "Putting the 1921 Census online - the inside story" in the Lost Cousins newsletter at https://www.lostcousins.com/newsletters2/midjan22news.htm#Rigden which throws a bit of light as to why there are so many errors. The transcr...

Re: Reverting to researched surname
I think that this is a question for Nick Walker as I am not sure if there is an option for what you want in Ancestral Sources. The problem is that when FH is updated it loses the record of the previously visited people in the focus window.

Are you using Ancestral Sources to enter the census data? If so, what you are seeing is what happens when you save and go back to FH.

Re: Potential Probate Plugin
Nick I deliberately do not include wills due to their many variables whereas the Wills Index is in a standard form which has only slightly changed over time, similar to the way Electoral Rolls has different information during various periods of time. Although I record the information from the Wills ...

Re: Potential Probate Plugin
Like some others I have been thinking that this "standard" sort of information could well be suitable for either a plugin or an addition to Ancestral Sources. Unfortunately, my capabilities for this are practically zero! Without wanting to make it more complex, I currently use the following 5 facts ...

In the case of Hilborough church, the images are on Flickr and are linked from the Norfolk Churches website. It could be that the FH clipper depends upon the image being on the actual website.

Re: New FindMyPast Premium Subscription
I have obviously had a curse placed on me as I did not get an answer to my email this morning, but just received notice that I had paid the full amount of £199.99 for the Premium subscription, with no loyalty discount! Hopefully a telephone call has sorted it out and I have been promised a refund. C...

Re: New FindMyPast Premium Subscription
I am not sure that FMP have quite worked out how subscribers can upgrade on renewal. I emailed them 2 days ago and was told that my subscription would be upgraded to Premium on renewal today. My subscription is still detailed as Pro with renewal supposedly having taken place at 01:53 UTC and the pay...

Re: New FindMyPast Premium Subscription
That was quite opportune, David, as my subscription is due in 2 days' time! It looks as though the additional cost will be £19.99 but with the loyalty discount of 15% that should mean that I get unlimited access for £17. I was going to wait until it became part of the Pro subscription, but I guess t...

Re: Property Box Tabs
Many thanks for the replies. For the time being, I think I may use Bill's approach, although 12 census rows might be a bit of overkill as I don't think I will find any ancestors who live to be 120+ :) . Mike has raised the question of the use of Expressions in tab fact definitions and maybe that cou...
