Re: TMG to FH import of Flags
Being out of UK timezone makes it difficult to keep up, but here's some more info. The claim that FH truncates TMG flag names to 7/8 characters is incorrect (it seems to be 13) - the 'RELATED_BY' examples I quoted above are real ones, and I'll add to that below. Firstly though, when I gave my exampl...

Re: TMG to FH import of Flags
I don't think any reworking of the TMG Flags is required, but one does need to understand how TMG Flags come across into FH - the "Every Flag is a Flag but the Yes/No/? values are omitted" statement is correct, but a little cryptic. Basic rules - in TMG a Flag can have multiple values, as defined wh...

Re: TMG UK Census Fact Definition
Well yes, the Census (family) definition creates a whole raft of issues, but I wasn't going to touch on that, as it would expose my contempt for the whole GEDCOM approach to census's (and other events) - breaking up census tags into types, as GEDCOM does, is just ridiculous and all part of the whole...

Re: TMG UK Census Fact Definition
Census (family) only ever applies to the Family couple/spouses/partners and NOT their Parents, Children, or any other household members. Really Mike? I don't think so. My TMG Census events directly import into FH with the roles of all my original members present and listed as witnesses. But I've ne...

Re: TMG UK Census Fact Definition
While your point 1 is, of course, true, the idea of splitting Census (family) entries down to individual single person entries is anathema to TMG users for 2 reasons. With 2 individual entries (and of course there may actually be far more, depending on all the family members present) then if I wanted...

Re: Sentences TMG to fh
Firstly, my meaning in saying one needed to always modify FH sentences was not to imply there were no valid FH sentences, but to suggest the ex-TMG users would almost always want to change them to either get closer to what they had in TMG or modify them to make them more useful. Certainly I would ha...

Re: TMG UK Census Fact Definition
In answer to John's original question, as long as the TMG census tags are all identified with the GEDCOM CENS code, they will all import into FH via the direct import method. In TMG I have 20 Census tags, identified by year, for UK from 1841 to 1939, for US from 1840 to 1940 and the odd Canadian one...

Re: Citations - is there a correct way?
Sorry Mike, I must disagree with the comment that 'TMG promotes Method 2'. One of the strengths of TMG is that it doesn't promote any particular way of doing anything - the user is free to use any method they prefer for just about any action. With reference to 'Method 1' or 'Method 2', the TMG forum...

Re: Migrating from TMG9 to FH6
I can't see that the TMG Place Style would have any affect on the import to FH, especially any affect on memo/notes transfer, but if you want to do a bulk Place Style change, I'd suggest you look at John Cardinal's excellent TMG Utility - see http://www.johncardinal.com/tmgutil/download.htm

Re: Migrating from TMG9 to FH6
You said you had 15 TMG Projects? do you mean Projects or DataSets? For those who don't know TMG, there is a need to be clear on terminology here - TMG allows the use of Projects, which may contain DataSets (which we commonly tend to call projects, without thinking about our use of the term). That i...

Re: Non standard facts?
Back to Evelyn's original question ("I do not want to create custom fact for each of these - I need a general fact or event for which I can edit the local sentence and expand in the note."), then here's what to do: Go into the TMG Tag Type list, and for each of the tags you want to get carried acros...

Re: Migrating from TMG9 to FH6
Thanks to all who answered my query so quickly. Following up: If FH6 doesn't convert Bookmarks to Named Lists, what does it do with them? Well, nothing. To expand again on my brief comments: 1. Yes, Tags become Facts, but TMG sentences (which are part of a TMG Tag) are ignored. They would need conv...

Re: Migrating from TMG9 to FH6
I'd change Mike's answer to :
1. Yes, but don't imagine everything to do with a tag gets carried across
2. No
3. Sort of - but FH flags are different from TMG flags and some settings don't come across
4. There is no such concept in FH.

Re: Import TMG V7 to FH V6 project failure
TMG 9 is totally Windows 10 compatible - I tested it on Win10 preview about March last year and am still running it on Win10. Some things actually work better on Win10 than Win7. Without knowing exactly what warnings you got it is difficult to advise, but I suspect they are just the normal warnings ...

Re: Import TMG V7 to FH V6 project failure
Simon, as noted above there were structural changes to the TMG database in v8.05 which I have seen make import attempts not work for prior versions. If you really want the FH import to work for ALL versions, it's a question of how far back you want to go - there were database format changes in v3.6,...

Re: Import TMG V7 to FH V6 project failure
I would suggest you get a copy of TMG 9.05 from
http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/in ... lers-v905/
Install that on the 30-day trial basis, import your TMG 7 database (it will convert it to the new format), then point FH 6 at the TMG 9.05 pjc file.

Re: Upgraded from TMG -need to fix witness sentences
Well Helen - 'anything else you need to know' = lots, but search the forum for the other TMG tips and tricks. And at the risk of annoying all the dedicated FH users on the forum, the main 'other thing' is not to bother leaving TMG - most of the heavy TMG users I know are staying put, as nothing else...

Re: Upgraded from TMG -need to fix witness sentences
Helen, To modify a sentence, go to Tools > Fact Types, select the type you want to edir, then > Edit and you will have something similar to the Tag type entry in TMG. Sentence structure is different, of course, but you can edit the sentences for each role there (click on the Roles.... button). BUT a...

To do a comparison of the 2 files, import each of them into Word (they're just text files basically) and do a Word Compare - you'll find Compare in the Review section of the ribbon.

Re: TMG import problem with Place names
It sounds like you are using GEDCOM to do the transfer from TMG to FH.
Always use the direct import option for TMG imports - it produces a better result in many ways and I have never adjusted the number of place fields - I presume (on direct import) that FH works out for itself what to do.

Re: Import TMG V7 to FH V6 project failure
TMG had a database format change from v7 to v8.05. FH may not be able to handle anything prior to v8.05, which may be your problem. You cannot buy TMG easily any more, although you may be able to track down a remaining licence somewhere. However, if you have bought v8 (and not installed it), this ma...

Re: TMG import - problem with names
Just to fully explain FH's treatment of the TMG name parts on direct import, the facts are: 1. TMG has 9 possible name components (Title, Prefix, GivenName, PreSurname, Surname, Suffix, Othername, SortSurname, SortGiven) 2. FH ignores 5 of these (Prefix, Othername, Presurname, SortSurname, SortGiven...

Re: FTAnalyzer-Census lookup utility-and doubleclick
If you Google <g> "ad doubleclick net" you will find many tips on removal. The following site is fairly comprehensive - note that an anti-malware tool like Malwarebytes is not necessarily sufficient on its own.
Anyway, try https://malwaretips.com/blogs/ad-doubleclick-net-virus/
