Re: Privacy and GDPR
I would agree. If we presume your reference site IS complying with the GDPR, then the person whose details they published will have given their approval for that publication. They have not given you approval to publish the same information, which makes you in breach of GDPR unless you get that perso...

Re: TMG sources not importing
It does sound like some sort of fh bug, though I have no idea why your project(s) should be so subtly different. As has been suggested it would seem Calico Pie is the next port of call. I'm sure from their point of view that if you can reproduce the problem in a small TMG project (say no more than a...

Re: TMG sources not importing
OK,now we're getting somewhere! For one of your 'suss' TMG projects try this: Test #1: do a TMG Export to GEDCOM (make sure you have Sources ticked in the export wizard, step 5) and either look at the result, or import it into fh. In either the GEDCOM or fh, look for SOUR records.. Test #2: go to th...

Re: TMG sources not importing
Peter, I find your experiences here somewhat surprising, but if you could supply more detailed info it may help lead to a solution. (1) if you do a GEDCOM export to transfer to fh, in the TMG Export wizard, step 5, you MUST tick 'Sources' (and selecting the 'Enhanced GEDCOM export' is also highly re...

Re: Advice Needed from TMG Users Who Switched to FH
"I want a program that can be extended by the addition of any tag (fact) definition I come up with, I want the ability to craft my own sentence structures, I want extensive tailorable reporting capability, I want good charting functions " You wish list is all there in fh. Sorry, it's not. At least ...

Re: Advice Needed from TMG Users Who Switched to FH
What I actually said was " for me is still the most powerfully featured program out there ." I'm not a super-advanced user of TMG features - probably in the middle of the road feature-wise (of course, if you only use basic features, as many do, then it doesn't matter much what program you use). But ...

Re: Advice Needed from TMG Users Who Switched to FH
I think by asking other TMG users why they switched to fh you are only asking half the question. And to me the real question is 'why should I switch from TMG'? When you have a complete understanding of the answer to that question, only then should you consider 'which program should I switch to?' (if...

Re: Ingvald Marius Iversen
Given that the Cardiff area in NSW is about 10km inland (which would seem to eliminate drowning) and there is no death entry for a matching Iverson/Iversen in the NSW Death registers, I think you can forget any Australian connection.

Re: Source Record ID Numbers missing or wrongly assigned after import from TMG
As Mike has said, use File > Project Summary in TMG to check the statistics of numbers of Sources, etc (you're getting to know TMG, Mike ). You can also run Report -> Project Information for more detail and a print/saved copy. However, to go back to the original problem, I think it may be due to not...

Re: What job? Help, please!
I think Lorna is right. There is so much variation in the way this census collector writes his P & S that it could well be an S. And given her mother is a 'Printer's wife' a job as a Stationery shop-keeper sort of connects to the family business....

Re: Import from TMG with Sort Date in GEDCOM
Issues with dates around 1752 immediately suggest an issue with Old Style dates, but if Linda's dates are written as she has stated, I don't see the problem - it may depend on what is actually in the GEDCOM date field. As we all know, the Gregorian calendar was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 158...

Re: Import from TMG with Sort Date in GEDCOM
And I should have added, before anyone complains about TMG conformance to GEDCOM, the MISC tag was part of GEDCOM up to v4, hence the MISC tag would have been built into the TMG tag list from its first release.

Re: Import from TMG with Sort Date in GEDCOM
Evelyn, Mike, The reason the TMG UK Sample 'Misc' tags do not export to GEDCOM is because these tags are assigned a GEDCOM tag-type of 'MISC', which does not exist in GEDCOM 5.5. If the MISC TMG tag is changed to an EVEN (Event) tag-type it would export, provided it met the GEDCOM restrictions, name...

Re: Import from TMG with Sort Date in GEDCOM
Mike, this may help you (long post!). These are the date ordering rules for TMG - All dates which are not irregular are sorted chronologically, according to rules illustrated by the following sorted example: after 1974 between 1974 and 1975 before 1975 say 1975 circa 1975 1975 after 1975 between 197...

Re: Import from TMG with Sort Date in GEDCOM
Nevertheless, the point is that there needs to be a way to determine the desired order of identically dated facts. That is, after all, the primary purpose of Sort Dates , otherwise what are they for? . Well, no Mike. The primary use of Sort Dates is to maintain the order of Events when the date is ...

Re: Import from TMG with Sort Date in GEDCOM
Just to close off some items above and add some more clarity. The TMG Help explains what extra things you get under the Enhanced GEDCOM option in the Help page labelled 'GEDCOM Export' - just scroll down until you get the bit about Enhanced GEDCOM. This is certainly not discussed in Lee Hoffman's re...

Re: Import from TMG with Sort Date in GEDCOM
TMG WILL export Sort Dates in GEDCOM. However, this function was added in TMG v9.04, so if you are using an earlier version you will not have access to the required option in the Export function. Go to TMG's File -> Export In the Export Wizard, Step 2, choose GEDCOM Work through the other steps unti...

Re: TMG Tasks
While Calico Pie make no attempt to transfer TMG tasks, I'm not surprised as I have found few TMG users to make use of it. It was (I think) included in TMG to enable professional researchers to track effort and expenses of their investigations on behalf of clients. It was later extended to provide a...

The only product I'm aware of that does even part of what is required is GENMatcher from MudCreek Software. GENMatcher compares two genealogy files for matches, or one genealogy file for duplicates. It directly reads most GEDCOMs and many program's native files, such as : Personal Ancestral File (PA...

Yes, I should have been more explicit - I too complained that TMG had a perfectly good 'last update' date and they should be transferring that across on import - so we're on the same page. Good luck with your bug report!

Re: Last edited date
FH v5.0.11 used to set the last update date to the date of import of data from TMG to FH. As of v6.0.1 it has left it blank.
I reported this to Calico Pie in Jan 2015, but hope you have better luck - I didn't even get bug # response from them.

My understanding on the void issue is somewhat different - see the interesting paper at http://www.branchcollective.org/?ps_articles=anne-d-wallace-on-the-deceased-wifes-sister-controversy-1835-1907 Also be aware that the repeal of the deceased wife's sister marriage rule happened well before 1907 i...

Re: TMG to FH import of Flags
Well, they are doing the truncate and split into multiple flags for alpha values. If they also did it for numeric values then that would be a consistent approach across all flags and would resolve the Multi Birth issue. That just leaves a '?' value as being one they drop, and I can't think of a sing...

Re: TMG to FH import of Flags
To add to my own post above, on further reflection, Mike is correct when he said TMG users may have to convert some flags into simple Y/N options. MULTIPLE BIRTH is a perfect case in point - in FH it just becomes a straight Y/N answer to whether it was a multiple birth, having lost the TMG numbering...
