Re: Entering children of unmarried women

A quick update.
Completed the Diagram using Mike's code and sent it off to the distant cousin in the States, she was delighted!
Thanks for the help.

Re: Entering children of unmarried women

I have tried your suggestion first Mike and it brackets the name as required. However there is an unexpected consequence, all the other individuals have had a.k.a added to them! I have pasted my Name a.k.a Scheme Template below for you to check: =TextIf(RecordId() = 1302,Text("(" . %INDI.NAME:FULL% ...

Re: Entering children of unmarried women

Thanks one and all.
I will examine your suggestions tonight and see if I can make them work for me.

I presume that they are all display/print modifications and would not ripple down into a exported GED?

Re: Entering children of unmarried women

Thanks Mike.
The mother concerned is in a branch of the family I have never met, in the USA, and her email to me was quite brusque. I think she is going to insist on the bracketed version!
Producing a version of the Descendant Chart just for that part of the family would be OK though.

Entering children of unmarried women

Some guidance please. I am adding children of two women relatives who were unmarried, who subsequently did marry and those children took on the surname of their mothers husband . I started by entering them with their mothers surname and then gave them an Alternative Name of their mothers husband. Wh...

Re: A Family Group

Thanks Mike, a helpful description of the procedure. It was the 'Named list' step I was searching for, this gives me a 'group' to use. I have only done the occasional report when passing info to other family members, they are a lot more powerful than I had realised. One simple question. Using the In...

A Family Group

Sorry if this a dumb question. I am considering using the Book facility in FH and it occurred to me that if the family I was already a 'group' it would make selection very easy. I dipped into making a book and selecting all the family members to be included would take a long time as well as easy to ...

Merging two datasets

I want to merge the data my daughter has created about her husbands family (in FH) with my set. I have read the Merge and Compare notes and after backups have tried a preliminary Merge of her GED with mine. I aborted it without merging so as to get an answer to this question. Under the Individual ta...

Finding new media to add

Is there a semi-automatic way of finding media that have recently been added using Explorer into the Media folder, which are now to to be Added into FH?

Thanks

Re: Exporting a family from my data

I have gone through all the media files and corrected some links including changing ones which were to my NAS and not the local hard drive. (the files are there but it is my duplicate copy of all my family history files). I ran the export again, with imbeded media, and it did not error. Will the exp...

Re: Exporting a family from my data

Thanks for the reply Mike. I OK'd the selection popup and then the warning about a large file with imbeded media. Selected the folder and used the same named file as my first attempt. After a short pause the error came up. I have tried one other selection, same result. No media files were open with ...

Exporting a family from my data

I want to share some of my FH data with a relative who also runs FH. I have tried exporting to a GEDCOM by selecting a family member as a root and then used the add query to include all decendants. I also wanted to imbed all the media files and selected that. When I run this I get "An unknown error ...

Re: Lookup Missing Census Facts for 1939 Register

Mike I think we are 'talking' at cross purposes!
Why does the plugin show references where there are no matches, line 3 for example?
Does it just report all subsets examined.
Or am I missing something?

Re: Lookup Missing Census Facts for 1939 Register

I based my Census search on this individual:
FH snip.JPG
FH snip.JPG (93.98 KiB) Viewed 6842 times
And a snip from the plugin return where line 3 has a null return in FMP:
FH Plugin snip.JPG
FH Plugin snip.JPG (74.77 KiB) Viewed 6842 times
Everything in line 3 is correct except for the hyperlink to FMY which returns no record.

Hope this gives you the information you need.

Re: Lookup Missing Census Facts for 1939 Register

Mike, Excellent plug-in (v3.9) which quickly returned a lot of useful census data, thanks

Do you know why when using it some of the hyperlinks to FMP that show a 'record' acctually show nothing on FMP itself when clicked on?

Re: Adding Media

You did indeed Mike but my FH was plugin free when I started this thread and I wanted to do it within the application. I have now completed the add and linking using the 2 windows method, tedious but successful. I still think that FH could make this easier. Perhaps if the process was for the user to...

Re: Adding Media

Fristly thanks David and Mike for your input, I have learnt quite a bit from your comments. I had know idea about AS so I will definately investigate that! I also tend towards using IE for all file manipulation and often find this is at odds to the way applications are written, hence my current pred...

Adding Media

Re: Adding pictures

Thanks for responding. Yes they are all over the place in the alpha list. Date sorting doesn't improve it! I started by having the Add window and the All Media windows both open and Ctrl selecting the missing items but for some reason the Add window now open maximised and so the All Media list is no...
