Re: Using matches to web data

Thanks one and all for all your posts, it is working seamlessly again! Mike: Thanks you made the same suggestion when I asked for guidance on the rebuild, so I did it then, a very useful plugin. Slightly off topic, and about plugins. Is there a plugin for Ancestral Sources? I have seen reference to ...

Using matches to web data

Apologies if these are dumb questions, I dip in and out of using FH that and that an aging brain...... I have had to rebuild my PC and now when I click on the 'match' icon of an individual it takes me to the login page of 'Find My Past', where as I am sure it used to go the relevant record, automati...

Re: Family Historian Rebuild

Thanks for the info. Yes FH is installed and waiting for its first project, it was that which prompted my forum question, before I just repeated the structure of the last one.
I will definitely load that plugin when I have re-instated the rest of the project, looks like a very useful addition.

Re: Family Historian Rebuild

Thanks for helping Mike. I rarely use My Documents if I can help it as I find it easier, for backup purposes, to keep track of my laptop data if I give them folders under root. It minimises the path that has to followed when manually adding info. Also, I use a Sync program which will update my data ...

I have made backups and also have made a mirror copy of the data folders on my NAS but I wanted to take this opportunity to create the best structure for the new setup. Previo...

Thanks, that makes more sense to me.
I couldn't find it listed here https://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=plugins:titles and that was what I was searching.

Re: Plugin updates

Thanks Lorna.
Do you mean, Check Version In Store (code snippet)?
If so I am unsure I how I would use it.
Also if I understand it correctly, it checks them one at a time, keyboard entered, not the collection.

Plugin updates

I have made a lot of use of Plugins and I have found them very useful. Well beyond my coding skills!
Is there one that can check my collection for ones that have been updated?

Re: Synch FH on two Laptops

I also use a laptop but keep a complete copy on my NAS, they are Sync'd by a program called GoodSync. I don't use the cloud but it could. You would have to be familiar with a File Explorer type display to be comfortable with it. It is free for the first 30 days, chargeable after that. It even sync's...

Re: Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin - usage

Thanks Mike I will study your reply and explore the options. The Help and Advice button was not working when I first tried the Plugin, it does now so I have read it. Sorry for the un-necessary questions. So is my example column move a two stage mapping? Map col 2 to col 3 and action, then Map col 2 ...

Re: Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin - usage

You are right Mike, I didn't know about the ALT key trick, thanks! Fantastic job with the sorting options, works a treat. I know it it is still work in progress but I have some questions on the Mapping/Rearranging panel. I am scared of making a bigger mess of my data so I am proceeding slowly! All D...

Re: Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin - usage

I can't believe there is anything in FH that is beyond you Mike, must be my poor explanations. I imagined it a bit like spreadsheet sorting. Click on the header of a column and it alpha sorts the whole spreadsheet using that column as a basis. Still leaving the cursor (highlight) on the same cell. S...

Re: Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin - usage

Perhaps it should just do an alpha sort on the chosen column, the other columns would just reflect that sort, the associated data just moving accordingly.
And the focus (is that the correct term?) remains on the highlighted line, so the line of interest remains in view, the surrounding lines move.

Re: Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin - usage

I thought it might be significant, if not impractical. Just the layout change in to defined columns would be an aid, sorting a super enhancement. If sorting is practical I think the other rightwise columns could just be in alphabetical order, that would probably show up similar address/places that m...

Re: Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin - usage

Mike, a suggestion for this Plugin. Would it be possible on the Filter screen to show the Address and Place data under their column headers? For Example, A0, A1, A2 etc, and P0, P1, P3 etc. I think this would make choosing the exact moving action easier to define. And, if all the Filter records coul...

Re: Place Merging

Thanks again, lots to work with! I have now tidied up some of the data using a variety of your suggestions, seems a lot better now. The difference between Address and Place had completely passed me by. In my database the 'in' of Birth Marriage and Death fields have taken all available information, e...

Thanks both I will investigate further tonight.
Is there a way of finding the individual's record that the Place and Address records come from?
I would like to see the context for them.

Re: Place Merging

Thanks Mike,
Version 1 seems a little drastic if information could be lost.
I have looked at version 2 but I am not certain which record to delete.
Perhaps this snapshot shows why I am confused. Should I concentrate on the record with a link and ignore the remainder?

I am tidying up my database which has lots of entries by several family members who have not necessarily placed the Address and Place information correctly, some even contain facts! This does confuse the excellent mapping feature a bit. When I try to correct some entries which are the same place but...

Re: Backup to External hard drive

HI and Happy New Year to you! I am not the most experienced user on this forum but I do happen to use a network drive for my backups, so my suggestions are as follows. I believe Free Agent is a Seagate program, does that not provide backup? If it does can you not select the Family History folder and...

Tentative FH data

Is there a best/recommended way of recording individuals in FH, who are not confirmed relatives? This has come up for me when trying to go back into the 1700's. I wanted to record the information that I had come across but I couldn't be certain the individuals were relatives until I did further rese...
