Re: Individual as Source
I try not to over complicate things but do want to ensure I can always track back to underlying "information source". Therefore, I have, say, my Mother and Father (now deceased) as separate Source records and record details (primarily, the date) from individual conversations in the Fact Citations. I...

Re: Entering gravestone with two names on it
The only caution I would add in respect of Lorna's suggestion is "are you sure the second person is buried there?" if you are going to create the Burial record. I have several instances where a gravestone mentions two people, but a trawl through the National Burial Index shows a record for the buria...

Re: Questions from TMG Refugee
Carl - I'm guessing the best route would be removal of these witness links in FH and I'm sure somebody with more knowledge of FH will be able to offer suggestions (or tell you it can't be easily done!), but in the meantime, have you checked what Roles you have set up against the Tag Type "Birth" in ...

On the Select Repository window, have you tried making the column wider?. I have it set to almost the entire width of the window as I'm not really interested in the Record ID and other fields.

Re: Recording census entries
I don't suppose there is any "right" answer to this as we all have different views and requirements. For myself, I do not create Residence, Occupations, etc., facts from a Census record but instead record these on the Census fact itself. My reasoning being that, for the former, it is only a record o...

Re: Is there a way to show a source/citation tree?
If you select the Source record in the Source Records tab, you can then use the menu option View / Citations to Source Record... to see the Citations associated with that Source record.

Re: Ancestral Sources v7.4 available to test
Nick - not sure if you want "issues" added here or as a new topic, so adding here for now!. Windows 11, 64 Bit AS v7.4 Using the new Add New Empty Row option. I got the row as expected in the Auto Text, but when I came to save the record, I got the following screen. Not sure if this by design, or an...

Re: Census Witness
The AutoText template can contain references to all Individuals who are included on the AS input. So, as an example, for a Baptism record, you can select the child's parents, as well as Witnesses, Vicar / Minister, etc etc., and the template can be configured to include all these names in the Text F...

Glad that helped!. I would also suggest (in case you have a lousy memory like me!!) that you turn on the AS Options / Census settings / When saving entries.... Warn if no source text flag.

Re: Census Witness
Can't necessarily advise which is the right / wrong method, but I use AS to capture Census data and make use of the AutoText feature in AS. This way all the data that I have entered is recorded, formatted as a grid, in the Text from Source field in the Source record. I therefore just need to open th...

Re: Dealing with AGE anomalies
I also use AS for capture and always input the age as shown on the source document. On some occasions I add a Note to the fact where I think a bit more information may be helpful. On my website (built using GedSite) I don't include Age in the sentences for facts (the info can be seen in the "Text fr...

Re: Restoring Settings to New OS Build
I have always used the Plugin for my backups but thought I would give Mark's scripts a whirl as, if successful, I could add a Backup cmd file to the Task Scheduler and automate the whole backup process (I currently rely on a weekly Outlook Calendar "reminder"!). For the record, I modified the destin...

Re: Issue with Informant Witness for Birth Certificates
Given that the AS AutoText has recorded details of the registration date and place (as does the actual source record image), I must admit that I overcame the issue of the registration date by modifying the sentence for the Informant such that it simply states "The Birth [or Death] of XXXX was subseq...

Re: Table listing census entries against individuals ?
Little.auk: Within AS, select Census and then open Tools / Census Templates.. . Set the Type, Region and Year or Description as required. You are then presented with, on the left, a list of Census Columns and once you highlight one of these, the Column Type info relevant to the selected column appea...

Re: Table listing census entries against individuals ?
Little.auk - it is done automatically by AS providing you make a change to each of the relevant templates in the Census Templates settings (viz. it is not a single setting in the AS Options). I can provide more info in need. I actually have Relationship to Head of Household, Marital Status & Occupat...

Re: Table listing census entries against individuals ?
Occupation, however, is a separate Fact. Census and occupation may be linked to the same source, but that doesn't make it easy to create an expression to display someone's occupation alongside their age for each census in the query. May not be helpful in what you are trying to achieve, but I have A...

Re: AS v7.3 available to test
Hi Nick - coming back on the Census Templates issue. Downloaded and ran the 7.3.1 ...

Just to advise Nick, I did not get the "There are updated census...." message the first time I opened v7.3 - I did have modified templates but fortunately have backups of them as well.

It might be worth checking your AS options as each of Census, Birth, etc have a series of "When saving ... entries" tick boxes in respect of what warnings should be displayed.

Jeff - I didn't come from RM but from TMG and spent over three months constantly uploading copies of files, etc / rebuilding exports for my website, etc., / modifying data and settings both in TMG and FH until I made the final switch. Time that was not wasted!!

Re: Addresses and commas after house numbers.
I have (since I started with v5) used the [[....]] brackets with addresses to differentiate, particularly, churches in different locations - eg "St Marys Church, [[Bridgwater]]" and "St Marys Church, [[Bristol]]" etc. For the first few months with FH I didn't do this but quickly learned the error my...

Re: Text from Source
I would suggest it depends on how you will using your data. I generate a website from my data and therefore having the transcript in the Text from Source field allows visitors to see what the original document had on it. I have a PDF of the transcript and a copy of the IMG file for my own "local" us...

Re: FMP Hints count wrong
I get exactly the same as Mike but haven't managed to work out if there is a common "theme" on the few where this happens though. Neither a count refresh nor a FH restart resolves this.
