Re: Witnesses when entering Census data
AS does create a separate fact against each Individual as you have found - the "link" is the Source, where, if you chose the appropriate options in AS, the "Where within source" will have details of all people mentioned on the Census. I am also in the process of moving from TMG, but as I did not use...

Re: Insert PLACE Field
I used the Search / Replace option in Notepad++ to modify a number of lines in the Gedcom file I exported from TMG - this included changes of the type you were talking about.

Re: Addresses and Churchs
Going at a tangent to this - the decision may also be influenced by what types of reports you want to run in FH as certain of them (e.g. Indiviudal Summary Report) show the Place data in one position (to the right of the Fact Date) and the Address data (if selected) under the date in smaller charact...

Re: Addresses and Churchs
I have been reviewing the same as part of a proposed migration from TMG. I am looking at having the Church Name in the first field of Address and the name of the village / town in the next, although I might move that to the third field if I find that I have street names for quite a few of the church...

The "Family Historian Documentation" web page says ".....Note that ƒh V6.0 does not include the Getting the Most From Family Historian book nor its Tutorial Files, but you can download them here for V5 and much is the same or similar. .."

Re: Recording a Military Death
Thanks Jane - I've used that plugin a couple of times (very successfully) but as I am still "tinkering" and keep running new TMG Exports / FH Imports as I learn different things, I want to make as many data changes in TMG as possible (without upsetting that applications output) so that I can slowly ...

Thanks Mike - thought that may be the case so will change the tags in TMG before the final import.

Recording a Military Death
Within TMG I had a number of family members who died "in action" during WW1 and used a tag "MilCasualty" to reflect this, followed by a Burial tag to hold the war cemetary details. I tried a similar tack in FH for the death but FH is showing (on reports and the Records window) that the persons dates...
Re: Witnesses
Thanks Mike - I'm happy to wait as it gives me time to "play" with FH and determine how I ultimately want my data stored / displayed / reported, and identify changes to data I can make in TMG that would help meet those needs once the data is imported to FH.

Re: Custom ID's
Mike - thanks for the pointer. The Gedcom file includes a REFN tag value which is equal to the Record ID - the TMG export configuration gave an option to "Export Reference field as..." and I hadn't picked up that this was actually the TMG Record ID being output (again). It is, as you said, also outp...

Re: Custom ID's
Excellent - that works for me Bill, although I still wonder why the field gets populated in the first place!!
Re: Witnesses
Yes Mike I have tried both imports but have found that the direct import does not bring in the Source Elements on a Source record (viz. it only brings in the Source Name / Abbreviation). Most of my Source records have Source Element fields containing important data, so once I found this problem I co...
Witnesses
Perhaps I am missing something here, but after a Gedcom import (from TMG 9.05) I can see Witnesses recorded against the Marriage Fact (for the Bride and Groom) but I see nothing (in terms of a Fact or similar) against the Witness in FH (and thus nothing in reports for that individual). In TMG, and a...

Custom ID's
After running a Gedcom import (generated by TMG 9.05), the Custom ID field on all my Individuals in FH is populated by a number matching the Record ID. Just wondering if this is "normal", and if so, how do I remove the field and / or content?. By way of explanation, I don't currently have any plans ...

Re: Multiple census entries
I'm still new to FH and tinkering prior to importing from my TMG projects, but when I have been trying out Census entry in FH (without use of Ancestral Sources) , one option I have found (which pretty much mirrors what I did in TMG) is to create a Census Fact for the Father (with Source and all othe...

Re: V6 Fails on TMG direct import
I have done a number of imports (both Direct and Gedcom) from my TMG project (as I'm still tinkering with data / setup before a "final" import) and I have seen my Witnesses in FH (viz. the import process did not fail for me). Import has been undertaken from both TMG 9.04 and 9.05, so it may be speci...

Re: Custom fact sentences
Mike - I don't believe it is the import process creating the Census (Family) as I also have this in my FH Standard Fact Set. It is fully completed in terms of settings (viz. Label, Fact Set, Template, Normal Time Frame, etc), whereas the Custom Facts that are created as part of the import (from TMG)...

Re: Incorrect Sources
Personally, I "de-link" a source that is incorrect / irrelevant rather than zeroise the Assessment value, but tend to keep a record of it in my sources listing. I have found several cases where I found an index (particularly transcripts of local parish registers) that ultimately was not relevant to ...

Re: Orvsden, Suffolk, England - Can't Find It!
I have found a reference to "An ingrossed bill for dividing the Lands in the Parish of Ousden, otherwise Orvesden, in the county of Suffolk.." in a book covering the journals of the House of Commons - the date referred to is 13 April 1812.
Hope this helps.

Done!. I held off initially reporting it as, if somebody else had encountered and reported this, I didn't want to be wasting Calico's time raising duplicate issues

Re: Month in Caps
I would obviously bow to Nicks knowledge on this as he may have a better suggestion, but I have used {DATE.MONTH.SHORT} {YEAR} (or a subset of) if I want the date to include the month as mixed case - this option gives, as an example "Mar 1851"

Import of Source Elements from TMG
I have been tinkering with various import options in to FH 5 and now FH 6 (Direct and Gedcom) over the last month changing my TMG data / formats as I go along so as to improve the import, but have found that the Direct import never brings in any of the Source Elements on a Source record (viz."fields...

Re: Astromenda browser
Astromenda is a search engine, normally downloaded as part of a bundle (default install or similar), and is viewed by many as malware as it can be very difficult to remove. I sincerely hope FH is not including this as part of the FH6 install?

Re: Retaining TMG Source ID on Import
Yes, I ran all the maintenance options within TMG (although I know some duplicate the work done by others!). I'll wait for V6 before really starting in earnest, but at the moment the Gedcom option seems to carry more of my TMG data over to FH than the direct import approach.
