Re: Emailing a Family History project file
I would stand corrected, but I think the Project file is just a "header" file with some info in it. You would need to send the "main" Gedcom file which normally sits in the [project name].fh_data folder.

Re: Add a Fact Defaults
Within the Fact Definition there is a tick-box called "Fast-Add Menu" - this determines whether the fact is included (or not) in the drop down list.

Re: Individual Narrative Report and Assumed Marriages
Just to complete the story, FH Support have advised: "..... The Individual Narrative report is laid like this (by default): 1. Paragraph about the main person 2.1 Paragraph about their spouse 2.2 List of children The last two repeat if they have multiple spouses. For example, if they have 3 spouses,...

Individual Narrative Report and Assumed Marriages
In my tree I have a lady (A) who married, and subsequently divorced a man (Z). She then had a brief relationship with another man (Y) which resulted in a child, and finally some time later married a third person (X). My problem is with the Individual Narrative Report. Her marriages to Z and X are sh...

GRO Registration Data & Place Data
Just wondering what others do in respect of the Registration District, etc., on a Birth / Marriage / Death GRO Index record - do you consider this to also be the Place of Birth, etc, or do you leave the Place in the Birth fact blank on FH. From what I have read, the vast majority of BMD's are regist...

Re: Save Diagram as .pdf in Win10
I am running FH under Windows 10 64 bit and had no problem using the Save As option on a digram - I saw the same prompts / screens as drathgen lists. The only difference (and I don't think this should affect the basic production of the file ) is that I do not have any Adobe software installed, and u...

Re: Windows 10
My dates and language settings were okay after the my 8.1 to Windows 10 upgrade on my laptop (they went to US on the Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrade on my desktop computer), but the thing I found that affected FH was the Internet Data Matches. I have not been a big user of this although I have "play...

Re: Defining Census as an attribute instead of event
I too have come from TMG, but the difference is that I did not use the Witness approach for Census records there but instead recorded them against each person, cross referencing back to a single Source record (the latter also recorded the Address and Registration District). I used the TMG Note to re...

Re: Changing facts
If you use Tools / Fact Types in FH, you can establish what Fact Set "Wills" is in. Then, within the plugin select that Fact Set from the dropdown list on the "Source Tag Set" button. Then, under this in the dropdown against "Source Tag Name, you can select Wills. You then repeat the exercise using ...

Re: Keeping the paper to support the digital
I sympathise as I have found myself in the same situation over time. I tried the route of placing each "source" document in its own clear plastic folder (the ones that are open just at the top) and wrote the (then) TMG Source ID on the front. This worked but obviously became cumbersome over time. As...

Re: TMG import with FH6 - no memos
Would agree with Simon in respect of 6.0.3 - I am seeing TMG Memo content coming over in the Direct import and correctly recorded (I used the Memo field in TMG for recording things like Occupations and "Cause of Death"). Not found anything missing yet.

Re: V6 - Further TMG direct import failures
Just to add to Simons response, I have succesfully used the direct import in 6.0.3 (from TMG 9.0.5) - much improved on previous versions as I now see Source Elements (which in my case, hold quite a bit of data) imported and shown against the Source record in FH. Still a couple of minor issues (with ...

Re: Birth/Death Certificate Year
Give that the certificates are "...extract of an entry in the register..." surely it is the year of registration that should be shown in the title area of the certificate, while the actual date of the event is shown in the central area with the other data (which also includes, at least on some certi...

I have also found that Address (as well as a couple of other elements) also appear under the Date - I am assuming this is by design as (I assumer) the Place element is considered the more important.

As indicated in the link from Mike's post, on my Windows 8.1 the Custom reports I have created can be found in c:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Reports\Custom with a file name matching the report name displayed in the menu within FH (and an extension of .fhr). I seem to recall though that ...

Re: V6 Fails on TMG direct import
Re your "small" Gedcom import, try checking the Gedcom file that was exported from TMG. I have found that on quite a few occasions, and despite TMG saying the export was a success, it actually only output a small incomplete subset of data - I often have to run the TMG export 3-4 times before I get a...

Re: FH V6 PDF printer not available
With Windows 8.1, you need to check the "Devices and Printers" list - this can be accessed via the Control Panel (as well as several other ways), and shows all installed printers. In my case, the "Family Historian PDF" printer is the first one shown on the page. If it is not listed, then it would im...

Re: V6 Fails on TMG direct import
Just for the record, I have used the driect import on FH (6.0.1) from TMG (9.05) and, from what I can see, all data has been imported okay (including Witnesses, etc). I have around 6,000 indivudals and 1,300 Source records, but only use Witnesses in the "traditional sense (viz. on Marriage records, ...

Thank you David & Mike - that has cracked it!. Re: Getting started with Ancestral Sources
As one who is planning to move from TMG to FH, I have spent quite a bit of time "playing" with data before I make the final cutover, and, I have to admit, was a bit sceptical about why I should use AS to help with future data entry. However, having toyed with the various settings and modified templa...

Re: New Witness Role
The Past Tense is used in the Facts tab of the Property Box. Thus, for example, the Mourner Witness Role for the Cremation Fact has a past tense of "Mourner at" and on the Facts Tab for the witness this is displayed as "Mourner at Cremation of Joe Bloggs".
