Re: Copying or creating an Event
Although slightly off at a tangent, I use only the "From Place" in the Emigration event and place the rest of the data in the Emigration Note - thus From Place will equal (say) "Southampton, England" and the Note will contain "on the ship 'ABC' to Port Adelaide, SA, Australia, arriving dd/mm/yyyy". ...

Re: Exporting to Gedsite format problem
Don't know if it helps but I have a good number of couples that have a Family record in FH but with no marriage, etc., recorded. On the website that GedSite generated I do not get a marriage reference / record but it does show (in the relevant section) that "the couple" had x children and then lists...

Re: Biting the bullet
Don't know if it will help but, after some investigations, I decided to move to FH after support for TMG was stopped. I chose the import route rather than a "rekey" option. BUT, I spent around three months constantly re-importing my data from TMG, checking reports / data consistency, etc., taking th...

Re: Create new template - Census
I think quite a few of us used the Template Editor to create a new template when the UK 1939 Register became available. I have also edited existing census templates to allow me to save data in FH in the format I want. Once you open AS, select the Census icon and a new Menu option "Census" appears - ...

Re: Media and sources.
Again, it probably depends on what reports you want to make use of. Personally, I don't attach the transcript, although I do keep a copy of it (in PDF form) in my Media folder. Similarly, I don't copy / paste from the transcript as pretty much all the detail I want is placed in specific fields of th...

Re: Media and sources.
I think you will find that there of many ways of using Source data and there is no "right" way!. A lot will depend on how you are are going to use your data (e.g what reports you are using, website requirements, etc.) For myself, and using your example of a certificate and a newspaper article, I wou...

Re: Private Data is Exported via GEDCOM file
I had the [[ ]] in an Address field to hide the Town on the record (eg "Mayday Hospital, [[Croydon]]") and the Plugin removed the [[Croydon]] so before changing data I would suggest trying the Plugin.

Re: Private Data is Exported via GEDCOM file
What "Export" did you use - I use the Plugin "Export Gedcom File" and that has an "Exclude [[Private]] Note" option which worked fine for me.

Re: Family Event entry
Although not exactly as yours, I needed to add an Engagement for a relation who subsequently died (in the war) before they could get married. I created the Family (via the menu option "Add Family as Spouse") with an Engagement Event to record the base details (with a Note to the effect that my relat...

Re: Export Gedcom File Plugin (3.1)
For info, John C has advised: "I think it's better for GedSite to do the cleanup. GedSite will offer more place-related features in future versions, and the extra commas could play a part in making sense of what is essentially free-form place data. I will add some address cleanup processing in the n...

Re: Export Gedcom File Plugin (3.1)
Thanks Mike - yes it is. I thought the "Exclude..." option would just take out the brackets (and text between) without a tidy up of commas - I'll set that option on and try it out.

Re: Export Gedcom File Plugin (3.1)
Thanks Mike - I'll drop John C an email re ADDR & PLAC. Worst case (as I tried before raising the matter on this forum), I can use the Find / Replace in Notepad++ to clean up the PLAC data, and I also used the Search / Replace plugin on Address data (to remove my "hidden" text and it's preceding com...

Export Gedcom File Plugin (3.1)
Using the above for an export for use by GedSite. In FH, I use a five column setup for Place records, with data in a standard format (Country in column 5, County / State in 4 and Town in 3, and with occasional use of Columns 2 & 1). Looking at the Gedcom files generated with previous versions of the...

Re: Migrating from TMG9 to FH6
Just to confirm your impression Mike - I imported Memos from TMG to FH with no loss of data (Direct Import, and while testing the processes and before my final cutover, also with the Gedcom import). As I recall, I did nothing "special" to make the data import okay.

Re: Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin
Thanks Mike. I'm planning to use the GedSite sentences rather than the FH Sentences initially as this will give me an "independence" from FH in my website generation. For the record though, I have absolutely no plans to move away from FH having spent a considerable amount of time modifying data, etc...

Re: Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin
Thanks Mike - John advised me of the [L:Address] and this gave me the data I was looking for on the website. I'll wait on a revised Plugin (and updated GedSite) before proceeding further but at the moment the out put is looking very good!

Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin
I am getting a strange result when running the above. By way of background, I am working towards using the new GenSite product for generation of my website - this is all going very well even though (as I expected) I need to make minor changes to my data in FH before using the Export Gedcom File. One...

Re: Mark Sources or Media as Private
I would be reluctant to remove all media links especially as some are certificates (which earlier responses tend to indicate can be put on a website) and photos I have taken. I use the Narrative Reports for my website (built using FH options) and, while I know there is the "Exclude from:" option (wi...

Lookup Missing Census Facts - Failure
Running the latest version of the above (4.0.3) and had an error thrown after I hit the "Lookup Missing Census Facts" button. I had chosen the "Anyone via the Select Records Dialogue", and, when prompted, selected a Named List, and then selected everybody in the Named List. The error message was: " ...
