Re: V6 Backup very large files
Although Mike says "...only needs to be run after making customisation changes", I take the view that I may forget that I have made changes so I have Outlook (which contains my Calender) throw up a reminder every week to run the Plugin and the "Small Backup" option within FH - the output from both g...

Re: Source Types and templates in fh?
With only a few exceptions, I use Method 1 for my Sources. I also take the view (as some others above) that I don't need to record every little detail of the source but more importantly, where I found (and can find again) the details. I also think that to some extent the methodology you use is deter...

Re: Hints have lost their colour?
I noticed the same today - it looks as if FMP have introduced new "pictures" and changed their naming conventions as all the grey ones now have the word "Civil" in them.

Re: "Ancestors by Generation" - NOT in narrative form?
I agree with Shiriki's comment about repetitive phrasing, but it is relatively easy to avoid this by changing the sentence structure so that it does not always start with {Individual} or {He/She}. A number of my Fact sentences start with {Date} (e.g. "<br>{date} {individual} was included on the ..."...

Re: Format of Sort Dates in GEDCOM to GedSite
Unless / until FH offers a Sort Date on Facts, and related processing, I personally think the Sort Date should always equal the actual date on a fact if it exists even where those Facts are not in date order. Although I run the FH "Sort" option fairly regularly, I am sure I still have some distant /...

Re: GRO Birth Indexes and how to Cite against Birth Fact
I suppose there is no correct answer to this as everybody will have their own views. Personally, where my source is the GRO Index I create a source record with Source Type = "Birth GRO Index", with the index details in the "Publication Information" field. Unless I have more specific data (e.g. Censu...

Re: Export Gedcom File new features
Mike - just to let you know, I eventually got a response from Atilla. This included a Gedcom attachment which he said would resolve the problem - import the Gedcom and the media files (which were still on their servers) would auto attach. Looking at the Gedcom it looks like all they have done is "ha...

Re: Importing from TMG - no sort dates in FH
In the Gedsite Help for Dates it states: ".....RootsMagic and The Master Genealogist use the GEDCOM tag "_SDATE" to specify the sort date, and that GEDCOM tag is the default used by GedSite. GedSite can be configured to accept a different GEDCOM tag.....". Hope this helps

Re: Export Gedcom File with Full v Brief option
Have been trying the "Brief" option and uploading result to FMP. (NB Given issues already discussed, I have not attempted bulk load of media). When comparing the tree produced in FMP to one I generated a few weeks ago using an earlier version of the Export plugin, I have not found any issues so far....

Re: Export Gedcom File new features
I have also just received an email from Attila, asking me to forward copy of the Gedcom and Media zip files (which, in fact, I have already sent to FMP Customer Support, but will do so again!). In his email he states "...This feature was implemented by Phil Moir and its development was discontinued,...

In AS, the sixth icon in from the left showing the upper half of a person and a blue "plus" sign provides the opportunity to add a person who is not already in FH. You can also use the menu option Edit -> Add Unrelated Individual.

Re: Export Gedcom File new features
I have had a couple of replies from FMP support - the first asked me to send them the Media zip file I was trying to load, which I did. The second response was: "It appears the 6 files have already been successfully added to your tree, these appear within the media section - http://tree.findmypast.c...

Re: Export Gedcom File new features
Thanks Mike. I have emailed FMP support but all they have come back with is instruction about import of single media files - I have replied repeating that it is the bulk zip import that is "loosing" my files.

Re: Export Gedcom File new features
I have tried both ways Mike - as you say, the import via Tree Settings - Media - +Media route did not auto attach to the Individual Fact. I do find it a bit disconcerting (worrying?) though that the zip file import can take so long after it is completed for the contents to appear on the Media page -...

Thanks Mike - points noted. Yes, it was a tad ambitious loading that number but I felt that if I was loading my tree, that is the sort of numbers I would be looking at!. Yes, I have been using the Profile of the Individual to look at Fact / Media connections and viewing the images. I'm a little unsu...

Re: Export Gedcom File new features
Not had much success I'm afraid Mike!. I used the Keywords plugin to update my Media records, and, after installing the 3.2.4 Plugin, I used the default settings for FMP and ran the Export. When finished, I followed the instruction in the Help to create the compressed Zip file (approximately 280 med...

Re: Export Gedcom File new features
Mike - I'm happy to have a look at the FMP Media upload but is there a config file of my current settings that I can copy / save before switching to the FMP export options?. I have "tweaked" a number of the Gedsite Export default settings and would not wish to loose them. Thanks

Re: Backup files
Yes, the recent Windows 10 Creators Upgrade once again reset a lot of default applications (to point to the relevant Microsoft application) and also screwed up a few permission settings. That said, once I changed these back to what I wanted I have had no problems.

Re: Address / Place in Maps
As I mentioned in an earlier discussion on the topic, if you want to include the place name in the Address (particularly relevant where you want to identify, say, multiple addresses for St John's Church), you can put the double square brackets around it so that it can be hidden in reports - e.g. "St...
