Re: 1939 Register
I don't use Ancestry, so can only advise how I use the RG101 reference found on FMP - I copy it (and other RG references) to the Publication Information field on the Source record in FH. By way of further explanation, I have "FMP" as the Repository on the Source record and use the PI field to hold t...

Re: Change Focus window to that shown in property box
I'm with David on this one - I too frequently go to the Property Box of a child, etc., and would not want to see the Focus Window change. As he says, personal preference / way of working!

Re: Need help with fact sorting order
What Normal Time Frame setting do you have on the OBIT Fact - it should be Post-Death. FH uses these settings (amongst others) when sorting Facts

Re: import same-sex partner from TMG to FH
I can't speak for FH reports as I don't use them, but for GedSite (which I do use), I would have thought the creation / export of a Family "Partnership" Fact (much like a MARR age Fact) with the two Individuals on it would be handled by a "Partnership" tag in GedSite and you can then structure the s...

Re: Sort dates with plugin for TMG import
TMG Help for Export to Gedcom (Step 7: Option Screen 3) just states the following: " Places You can choose whether to export only the Short Place fields or you can check which of the place fields will be exported, whether a comma will be exported when a field is missing, and, if Commas when missing ...

Re: Sort dates with plugin for TMG import
Yes Mike, in TMG you can have a Sort Date and no Fact Date - it was the way to get facts sorted in the order you wanted even if there were missing Fact Dates

Re: Stopping Age Count
I'm sure Mike will come back with plenty of suggestions, but based on my experiences when I switched from TMG to FH, I would wholly agree with his comment. I have reworked the way I capture some data a number of time and it really can be a painful exercise!. Just simple things like naming convention...

Re: Source help
There are places the Short Title can be used in preference to the Title, but personally I don't use it all!. My Source Title is normally pretty succinct (e.g. "Tapscott, Robert - 1941 UK Census" or "Tapscott, Robert - 1845 Death Certificate") and any related references (eg GRO Reference, etc) goes i...

Re: Source help
Going back to William's last comment about Entry Date, I have to say I don't use the field at all!. With all information I find on the web (FMP / LDS/ ........), I print to PDF the transcript or whatever on the website (most have a "Print" option) and save that in the FH Media folder with a download...

Re: Census entry - Individual v Family
I'm with a number of other people on this in that I don't use the Census record as a basis for Residence. I use AS to capture data and as such the Address / Place of the Census record is only recorded against the Census fact (set via the relevant AS option). Although I hardly use FH reports, Fact se...

Re: How should we use the internet as a genealogy data source.
As a matter of course I always "Print to PDF" every website transcript I use as a source, and store that in the Media folder. It's a bit of a pain and obviously results in a lot of PDF files but at least if, for some reason, I have to re-search for something I still have the PDF of the original and ...

Re: Occupation Problem TMG to fh to Gedsite
Evelyn - there is an option in GedSite to use the source system (viz FH) sentences or to use the sentences you have created / modified in GedSite. From memory (as it is a while since I tried the options as I now have mine cemented in!) but I think the FH / Export Plugin also has an option to export ...

Re: Occupation Problem TMG to fh to Gedsite

I had instances of this type of behaviour when I ...

Re: Changed name of project - bit of a mess
If you successfully open your project in FH, there is a Plugin Ancestral Sources Data Entry (you might need to download it from the FH Store), that auto passes the project name / location over to AS.

Re: Research Planner enhancements
Not sure if this helps, but.... I modified the Templates such that a Creation Date value can be added as I quickly realised I needed some form of gentle reminder of how long ago I created the Research Note. That said, I have also now started adding a Fact Date (when I remember!) as I wanted to ensur...

I also used Front Page (and still do you for one of my old private web sites) - it defaulted setup to "My Web Sites", so I think you are pretty much correct there Evelyn. If you do move to a new Windows 10 machine (as I did recently to replace one of my older machines), it will create a number of ba...

Re: Individual census facts not included in report
When I started the move over from TMG to FH, GedSite was not available so I expended quite a bit of effort trying to get data over to FH in a form that allowed me to generate a website using FH's built-in " Create a Website " Publish option (in conjunction with the related Plugin), that matched (par...

Re: Individual census facts not included in report
I also came from TMG to FH, and am a user of GedSite. From the start in TMG I did not use the Witness options for recording Census data so am working from a different angle than you!. Having said that, I also missed the options that TMG offered that enabled me to see (on the related website) details...

Re: Ancestor calendar
If you want a Calendar rather than a straight list, the website builder GedSite gives you that option. See my site at https://genealogy.tapscott.co.uk/up/Births.htm for an example - I have separate pages for each of Births, Marriages and Deaths, but these can be combined if you wanted.

Re: Urgent Merge & Compare question
I believe it has something to do with the "Fast Startup" option (which is "on" by default in Windows 10). To achieve the faster start up, Windows 10 hibernates the kernal so that it can boot faster. A Restart does not do this and thus could be considered a more "complete" shutdown / start up!

Re: Census entry crash
Which field on AS do you paste it in to?. I always paste it in to the "Ref ID:" field in AS and, when the record is saved to FH, this populates the "Publication Information" field - as controlled by one of the Option Settings in AS.
