Re: Edit of Marriage record
As far as I can ascertain, Henry was a "Shoe Maker" (based on the next 2 Census records) - there are a couple of Henry Tapscott's born in the same village around the same time, but I'm pretty sure (largely based on his father's name) that I have the census records for the right one!. Similarly there...

Re: Edit of Marriage record
Must admit, I hadn't thought of Greek words, which is really stupid as I'm living in Greece at the moment!!. I will have to take a copy of this out with me and see if I can get some Greek friends to translate for me. Thank you both.

Edit of Marriage record
Just wondering if anybody can throw some light on the note made at the bottom of a Marriage record in Uffculme, Devon where there is an asterisk against the date and the note at the bottom - Henry Tapscott to Martha Gollop on June 25, 1863. I'm guessing the first word is "Edited" but I can't for the...

Re: What is an objective definition of "Splitting"?
And I doubt you'll find a 'Splitter' who doesn't have some degree of lumping for some sources. I think this hits the nail on the head!!. I just wonder sometimes if these "principals" are being over thought. There will be occasions where I have a book as a Source and then citations in multiple facts...

Re: Proposed Changes to the Forums
I would count myself as a reasonably experienced FH & AS user and hit the FHUG website a couple of times a day (at least!) using a URL that incorporates the "unreadposts" option. Over the last few months I have been opening / reading less and less of these and just using the "mark all read" quite fr...

Re: Switching tips? (RM->FH)
"strathglass"; While you can do a lot of cleanup in FH7 after import, I'd advise taking a look at the issues people have noted and try to revise your records (to the extent possible) in RootsMagic before importing to FH7. The reason is simple; at this point you're still more familiar with RM and mo...

Re: unable to enter FHUG site with message Your clock is behind etc
For me it is more historic than current. As I split my time nowadays between Greece and the UK I do make more use of Time Zones now, but there was an issue in earlier versions of Outlook where the TZ, even when not explicitly set, did get saved with a calendar entry and it was this that was primaril...

Re: unable to enter FHUG site with message Your clock is behind etc
I'm a bit mystified as to why it needs to be set manually. Largely depends on your lifestyle / travels, etc. I used to travel a lot on business and did not always want my laptop constantly resetting times, etc., so I had those sort of things turned off. I have also found issues with Ms Outlook (the...

Re: Advisability of changing Census Roles from default options
Just to clarify, does this mean that you are using FH Witness Roles for each person on a census record as opposed to giving each Individual their own Census fact?.

Re: Downloading FMP Sources
Agreed, but it doesn't give me the formatting I want and which I achieve using AS. The PDF also gives me a bit more info if I need to look back at "old" stuff (eg date of pdf / output).

Re: Downloading FMP Sources
Yes, I always use the Print option for the transcripts on FMP (as well as downloading as a jpg if an image is also available) for much the same reasons as the original poster said - transcription errors which do not always make themselves obvious immediately!. For the print process, I select the pri...

Re: Editing existing records in AS
In essence, you can't change a FH record from within AS - depending on your AS settings, the entry for, say, a Birth fact will either replace an existing fact of the same type for an Individual in FH, or be added as a "new" fact for the Individual. I use a mix of both options - where I have minimal ...

Re: Possible glitch in Export GEDCOM plugin
I'm sure Mike T will respond, but I can confirm that my Burial facts go over to GedSite as Burial facts. I am using the latest version of FH and the plugin, with GST as the "Gedcom Destination" in the latter. At what point did you see the Cremation in GedSite - have you used the Utilities / Record B...

Re: Unrelated Individual v Witness in Census
There is a recently added AS option to add an "empty" row when inputting census details. The person(s) added here are shown in the grid below and thus get included on the Source record, but no new Individual or Witness record is created within FH.

Re: Repository when adding images
In that case you would need to add another Source record and I don't believe that can be done using AS unless adding a new Fact.

Re: Repository when adding images
Unless I am missing something here (quite possible!), when you use the "Existing" function to add an Image via AS it is being added to an existing Source record - that Source record will already (normally) have a Repository named on it.

Re: Residence Date?
Personally, I would say the Registration Date as it is the address of the person registering the event and they would have used their current address. That said, I don't know if there is a "legal" requirement on which address to use!. Just for info, use of the Registration Date on the Residence fact...

Re: FamilySearch hints
You would need to take that up with CP as they don't tend to release much detail on their plans. That said, I would imagine if FS were to allow a data match process they would likely invoke a definite cost that we, the users, would have to pay!.

Re: New / Revised Census Templates delivered with new release
Thanks Nick - just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing any settings / "tricks" on the templates front.
Hadn't realised I didn't need to change columns to "Generic" but all done now so will try to remember that for the future!.

New / Revised Census Templates delivered with new release
When a new release of AS is installed, I will often get a message to the effect that the release includes new or updated Census templates and asking if I want to overwrite my existing ones. I have made changes to a number of the baseline templates so I always select "No". A couple of questions reall...
