Re: Web sites whose owners have died
Not morbid at all David - it's something we all need to be thinking about in our current situation. I use a Password Manager and have setup my brother to have Emergency Access to the vault. In there, in addition to passwords, etc., I have a "secure note" file detailing my Genealogy "setup" - viz. wh...

Re: Census versus Residence
The one thing I would add to Mike's comment about not needing to close AS is that it is worth having FH closed, or, at least, ensure the AutoSave and Snapshot options in FH turned off. As I have found from painful experience, it is very easy to continue using AS after FH had made an auto Gedcom "sav...

Re: Help with custom Census Autotext format
In essence, No!. I think the issue lies more with a lack of formatting within FH than anything else. I did try "playing" with the AS "Grid Column Separator" options, but really didn't get anything that was particularly readable. Fortunately (!?), I use GedSite for generating my website and this hand...

Re: FH6.2 will not open
Probably won't help you much but I have Windows 10 (fully updated, including the latest 11th Feb updates), fully updated Virus software (Kaspersky), Firewall, etc etc and all is well with FH, so, as Jane suggests check virus software. For info, Avast and AVG are owned by the same company and share t...

Re: Hints from FMP
The FMP hints are just that - Hints. There is no update of FH following receipt of a hint - it is for you to decide if a hint is indeed "correct" and then for you to enter it into AS or FH. Personally, I use the same process whether it is a hint or "normal" details that I find while search FMP - I p...

Re: Save and Restore
It is a shame that plugins cannot be run as Scheduled Tasks (or similar) but for myself I have just set up a fortnightly reminder on my Calendar to run the backup plugin - I find this a better approach than relying on my (ageing!) memory!!

Bear in mind also that this wasn't a "normal" Edge update but in fact the install of the "new" (Chromium based) Microsoft Edge application.

Re: File Naming Convention
I tend to rename all downloads - these may be images (jpeg, etc) or PDF's (I always create a PDF of any transcript I find on, say, FMP). All these files are named to match the structure I use for naming Source records (whether input to FH manually or via AS) - Surname, Christian / Given Names, a hyp...

Re: Alternatives to Ancestral Sources?
To re-emphasise the earlier response, AS does not "hold" any data at all - there is no "... info already in AS...". It is merely a front end to the FH database and the applications reporting facilities - some users don't use it at all and input all information directly to FH, while others use it to ...

Re: Converting existing census facts to Ancestral Sources
As one who moved over from TMG seveal years ago (when support stopped), perhaps I can add my "non-expert" thoughts / experiences!. I use AS for all offered types of input utilising Method 1. I "played around" with AS settings for many months before I decided on what worked for me and my website (whi...

Some interesting "extras" there Helen - I too have BMD, Burial, Census, Emigration and "Misc" templates, but there might be a few more I could add based on your "less obvious" ones!

Re: Help Understanding Sources in FH
Perhaps I'm missing something here, or looking at things too simply, but I build my website from my FH project and anybody can see quite clearly on there what the Source (or Sources) for a Fact are and get the answer to "Where did you get that information?". I certainly don't "hack" my data to get t...

Re: Research Planner Version 2 -- request for beta testing
Just to provide some feedback - have been testing over the last few days and have found no issues so far (fully patched Windows 10 Pro / 64-bit). Have found some typos, etc in the Help but will continue to concentrate on functionality testing before reporting these.

Re: Display different set of fact types
Have to say, I stick with Baptism for all as I am not even sure that FMP, LDS, etc actually differentiate Baptism / Christening correctly. In the Baptist Church (which encompasses a lot of my ancestors), Baptism takes place by full immersion and is a sign that that person (rather than the parents of...

Re: A question on Sources
Whilst there is a Plugin for Ancestral Sources, it is merely a way of starting AS from within Family Historian and ensuring AS uses the same Project as you currently have open in FH. Ancestral Sources is a "companion program" and thus can be opened without the Plugin.

Re: Research Planner Version 2 -- request for beta testing
Just to say - I got the same error message that Ron reported ("Failed to download.....") when I first ran the Plugin (after installing the Plugin dated 11 Nov) BUT.. I clicked OK and also acknowledged the follow up message indicating plugin would try when next run. I then closed FH and restarted it....

Mike - did you make the change to the Plugin in respect of the hyphen & minus keys, etc? mentioned at the beginning of this stream? Re: Source & media naming
I keep the same name for Source records and any related Media records / Media file names. Unlike some others who have responded here, I consistently start the record name with the persons surname and keep it fairly simple - viz. "Scott, John - 1901 Birth record", "Jones, Peter J to Smith - 1854 Marr...

Re: Ancestral Sources not updating FH6
This may not help but I have had the same thing occur with Census records. In each case, it was while I was inputting a number of Census records and during the final one I got the popup in AS saying the project had been changed / did I want to refresh AS. I answered Yes and then shortly after Saved ...

Re: Shared Census Sentence
Rusty - Just a point re using Ancestral Sources for census capture - if the individual already has a Census event for the selected Census year in FH then AS gives you a warning and allows you to overwrite / replace the FH Census event. This effectively means you don't have to ".. start all over agai...
