Can't speak for Mike, but I changed nothing in my profile and it is correctly showing UTC +2 (I am in Greece).

Re: Quarter dates in Facts tab
I would suggest those two uses are valid - it is quite possible that we know a person lived at a given address from a specific start to specific end date, while for somebody else we only know that they lived at a given address at some stage between two dates. The Sample project is therefore giving e...

Re: Using matches to web data
Agreed Mike - my experience has normally seen that at around 2 weeks, but I'm talking two days now!. Have been checking if the browser has somehow switched "on" cookie clearing on shutdown but not finding anything like that so far (viz. switches all set to "don't" )

Re: Using matches to web data
Must admit - the last couple of weeks I am being constantly asked to login to FMP when looking at hints in FMP despite having the "remember me" option turned on!. Using the same external browser (Chromium Edge) and not clearing cookies, so starting to get a bit fed up with it.

Re: How to best link sources to each other?
I'm with Mike on this one. I get most of my info from FMP, and, certainly in the case of parish records, they get information from a variety of other archives, but I always record FMP as the Repository on the Source record. I always create/download a PDF of the FMP transcript so if it did disappear ...

Certainly works okay for me - I get a prompt asking about updating DOB, Place of Birth etc., with a few tick boxes for how I want to proceed (normally, just update the DOB).

Re: FH stops at random times with new Windows release
Doesn't help particularly I know, but I am running Windows 10 Home Version 2004 fully patched and use FH most days - I have not seen any occurrences of FH stopping / closing unexpectedly.

Only the "whole world" that have decent internet speed and are happy to have their data in the cloud!. I don't and I am not, so I would see this as an add-on and not a replacement for locally installed software.

In the AS Marriages / Further Info tab there is a dropdown list against Association - select Witness from that list. If it's not in the list (unlikely!), then hit the Edit option to add it

Re: Timeline to aid research
Thanks for that Peter. I have only been able to follow "my" Tapscott's back to the late 1700's in Culmstock, Devon - at that point there are multiple Robert Tapscott's and I have been unable to identify which one is "mine". For the Robert I have I have been able to track all subsequent generations p...

Re: Timeline to aid research
Where I have found historical mention of / records with the same surname as those I am studying, I do input them to FH with a suitable comment in the Notes against the individual (Tapscott is a relatively unusual surname!). There have been numerous occasions when, sometimes several years later, I ha...

I use a custom Attribute "Organisation" with a sentence template incorporating "{individual} was a member of '{value}' {date} {place} {age}" for a variety of memberships including Trade Unions, etc.

I'm sure Nick W will reply in due course, but my guess (based on my experiences) is that the Q4 date in FH is being used for the comparison.

Some things to check: Are you using FH or GedSite Sentence Templates in GedSite? If you are using GedSite sentences then: Is the Military Service Fact appearing at all on the website generated by GedSite? If it is (eg say, just the Date and Place) then you need to check the Tag sentence in GedSite t...

Yes Mike, although I have snapshots turned off because it was causing some issues with loss of data when using AS. I don't use the Small Backup as a backup "weapon" per-se but as a means of looking at historical work - viz. I know I changed this record but what did it used to have recorded. Much qui...

FH found the path that it normally uses on my laptop ...

Re: FH 6.2.7 Randomly closing
Have to say that, like Mike, I have never encountered FH shutting down as described in earlier messages. I do occasionally see the "Oops...." message on FMP, but that has mostly been when I have accessed / logged in to FMP directly rather than via the FH hints process - the last two occasions it hap...

Re: Where born in census entries
Giving a completely "curved ball" idea - if you use Ancestral Sources to capture the Census record, you could modify the Templates to have the Column Type of "Where Born" (or whatever it is called in a given Census year) changed to "Generic" instead of "PlaceofBirth" and the value of "Recording" set...

I also moved over from TMG when its demise was announced and did consider the "split" projects approach but eventually decided against it, primarily because of the risk of loosing / duplicating source records etc etc. Ultimately, I used Named Lists and Flags to mark what I could call my "primary" re...
