Re: Importing from TMG - no sort dates in FH
Thanks for the discussion on this - I have come in late - I thought I would receive an email when someone replied to my topic.... - The ideas are interesting - and sort dates would apply also to FH users that use GedSite (something I highly recommend) other than those importing from TMG. Adding an a...

Importing from TMG - no sort dates in FH
I am trying to import a variety of 'tags' from TMG to FH. Unfortunately FH doesn't have sort dates. This is causing a tremendous problem for me. I understand that in FH you can identify the approximate position of an event or attribute - such as a burial event after a death (none of my burial events...

Re: Education tag - attribute/event - import from TMG
Mike -
No log files either. But you don't have to look into this any more, I am satisfied that I know what is happening now (for this one problem). I think you will hear from me again, though....
Thanks for the help

Hi Mike -
I don't have any UDF data and therefore (I think) no exception report. Tools/Uncategorized Data/Find Uncategorized Data - created a list which has 0 records. The data just went into the Note field,

Re: Education tag - attribute/event - import from TMG
Mike - Thanks very much for your clear explanation. I'm not too worried about adding sentences for custom facts. I think I will keep education as a custom event. In testing this problem, I tried adding data to the fields in the lower half of the properties box. They did not correspond to where I wou...

Re: Education tag - attribute/event - import from TMG
Thanks for the feedback on the education tag. I discovered what was happening - I had identified the GEDCOM tag in TMG as EVEN. When I changed it to EDUC, the education tags imported as attributes. I see that when an education tag is imported as an event looking at the property box, at the bottom ha...

Education tag - attribute/event - import from TMG
I am trying to make my TMG education tag fit with FH - I have 15 Principal roles in TMG for Education, so I must change. In FH listed in Fact Types I have (after import): 1. Education, Attribute, with an OK sentence 2. Education, Event, undefined (not in a fact set) with a lousy sentence. Of course ...

I have a ticket number #667891
But I asked for the last edited date to be transferred, not the date the FH file was created.

Re: Last edited date
Mike - Aha - I found out where the updated date comes from - if I run the plugin you wrote called 'Move Citation Text Fields' then the date is updated. Whew, glad to find that question. Perhaps there could be an option - to change the updated field or not..... I have written a ticket to calico pie f...

Re: Last edited date
Jane and Michael - Thanks for the info about where the last edited date/last changed date/updated field is. Funny, I never noticed it there before..... Yes, I do believe this date should be imported from TMG. It is an important piece of information and it would be better if it weren't lost. When I l...

I am migrating from TMG to FH. And then sending a GedCom to GedSite to make a website. Last edited date - this is a field in TMG. And I believe it is a GedCom field. Is this field imported into FH from TMG? If not, why not? I looked in help and could find a function for last edited date, but couldn'...

Re: TMG to FH Source fields
Hi Mike - Talking about abbreviation & short title - Yes, you did say abbreviation; however, when I go to the source record (individual record, click on fact in fact tab, click on blue arrow in Source box) it shows labeled fields of Title, Type, Short Title etc. The field that in the Gedcom is liste...

Re: Source where-used report (citation)
Bill Henshaw: Thanks for the info about where-used citations to use view/record Links. That is great for an overview of where the source is used Dewilkinson: Thanks for the support in migrating. I am concerned, but trying out things one at a time. mike: Thanks for the plug-in Where Used Record Links...

Source where-used report (citation)
Hello I am a new user of FH, thinking of migrating from TMG. In that software we had a report we could run that would show every record where a source had been used - every citation for that source. I see in the source window there is a column for how many times that source has be used, but I can't ...

Re: TMG to FH Source fields
Hello Mike - Wow! I finally figured out how to get the plug-in, install it, run it, and everything looks great, on first look! You said I could contact Calico Pie - but I don't need to now - their service couldn't be nearly as fast as yours! Thank you very much for your prompt reply and prompt actio...

Re: TMG to FH Source fields
Hello Mike - I have updated my profile. I'm not sure where the original information came from. I'm also not sure there there are any mandatory standard fields in the source templates. However, author is in quite a few of the templates. A plug-in would be useful. Thanks for the info Linda Reinfeld I'...

Re: TMG to FH Source fields
Hello Mike - I did a direct import from TMG to FH version 6.2.2 Yes I have seen the Knowledge Base direct import info. In the Records window of the Sources tab of the Property Box: Title, Type and Short Title are filled in. The other fields are blank. Except for the Notes field. That has: Author: Co...

TMG to FH Source fields
In importing TMG Sources to FH the Author field does not go into the appropriate field, also the Publication data. When I run a report in FH with sources the Sources are correctly identified i.e. Author: Torrey ...... So FH knows who the author is. Are there plans to move the TMG source data to the ...

Re: Witness memos migrating from TMG
Thanks Mike for the info. I missed seeing the witness sentence by clicking on the witness of the original tag. When I went into tools/fact types/ and edited the death tag and changed the sentence for the witness to be {%CUR~WITN.NOTE2%} then I could see the witness sentence at the bottom of the prop...

Witness memos migrating from TMG
My death tag in TMG has witnesses, some of which have statements attached to them (she was only 2 when her mother died). These witness memos don't seem to migrate over to FH I have other custom tags, such as FamilyPhoto, where the witness memo does migrate over to FH. Could someone shed some light o...

Re: database engine
Thanks so much for the helpful replies. I was concerned about the database engine because of TMG being based on visual FoxPro, which is not supported. Another software under consideration is based on visual basic, which is also not being supported. I didn't really want to be left high and dry again!...
