Source for new Individual

I am adding a coupe of hundred new individuals to a place project. I use the Add menu. I want each one connected to a particular souce, the book in which they are listed. Eventually I will create a named group of people mentioned in this source. I know this has come up before, but I cant find the th...

Re: Where would you record the death?

My mother's step father died on a London underground station platform. The death was recorded as being at the Station.
He did not live near London but travelled there on business about once a week. I have assumed he died while running to catch his train.

Re: GedSite and Family Historian

I to use Gedsite and fh, having previously used Second site with TMG. John Cardinal is infinitely patient with me and you can usefully report any problems and read other people's questions and John's answers on Google groups. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/gs-l My website wont help you as I...

Re: Customising sources

Evelyn, how did you migrate from Pedigree to FH ? Not directly, I am afraid. I moved from Pedigree to Generations and when Generations became Apple only, I moved to TMG. The migration each time was done with a simple Gedcom. I have mentioned before my long term devotion to a book "Gedcom data trans...

Re: Customising sources

Echoes from the past - Pedigree.
I used Pedigree too. The Place info from my earliest (individual) census sources is now in the Note field of the fh source record.

Re: Orienting certificate images

Thanks Bob. I own and use Photoshop elements.
The problem here was different. That on the computer screen (and Photoshop elements and other viewing software) the image was already correctly orientated. It was retaining the marker that was the problem.

Re: Orienting certificate images

I had this problem and solved it by just opening the image rotate it and rotate it back then click save. This cured the problem for me. I did the same using Irfanview64. I asked support at Calico Pie and that is what they told me to do. I apologise that my aging brain and covid quarantine prevented...

Re: Orienting certificate images

PeterR I have downloaded InfranView64. I used it to rotate the image but it doesnt seem to be saving it. And I do not understand how to strip out the exe data. I guess the original rotation would have been via the scanner. Cannoscan 8800F. It is an old scanner but excellent and Cannon still provide ...

Re: Orienting certificate images

There is a problem. Any scan of a UK paper certificate from my scanner comes out Portrait and then has to be rotated. So every single certificate image is rotated. German certificates are portrait in the original so it may be only UK ones which are a problem. I dont keep the image inside the fh fold...

Re: Orienting certificate images

Mike, the image is already rotated when viewed in the folder in windows explorer I have it copies as both portrait and landscape. The image was scanned with a rather old canon scanner that still works well. I will do as you say. Make a new copy and rotate that new copy. If I open it in Picasa the pr...

See how_to:v4:adding_multimedia#photo_orientation|> Photo Orientation . In Windows use Windows Photo Viewer or Windows Live Photo Gallery and with the image open use right-click Rotate left/right , or in File Explorer right-click the file and choose Rotate counter/clockwise . Orienting certificate images

I have jpeg images of some certificates which I want to show landscape in the source image pane. One reason for moving to fh was to show source images. I link the image leaving the original in my own file structure. I canot get the certificate to display landscape in fh even though it is landscape i...

Re: Apps for Android

I can see that Gedexplorer will open a GEDCOM file so doesnt need the conversion required for Gedstar pro. Thank you for the recommendation. However I remain very confused by the Gedcom files in fh. Please can someone who uses Gedexplorer on their Android phone tell me which file they open in Gedexp...

Re: Children out of sequence in focus window

I find this one of the most infuriating things about fh. One notices that the children are out of order. Goes to the button to click to reorder and up comes a screen telling me the children are out of order. Which was exactly why one opened that screen in the first place. The children could be reord...

Re: Chinese characters

This reminded me of my struggles with a Hebrew name. Could it be that the brackets are causing the problem? I removed my only Hebrew name feeling defeated but I just put it back. It printed out as an additional name in the individual report. So I pasted the Hebrew characters into the field for her p...

Re: multiple projects open?

Thank you Mike. I will back up the projects and see whether it can cope. The answer is that it can. Note, I am not running queries simultaneously on two or more projects. I am simply looking through the query results. I have all four Place projects open and minimised. If I hover the mouse over the f...

Exporting query results to MS Access

One possibility I notice would be to save the query results set in MS Excel or MS Access. One can save the result set from a query as a comma separated file with the column headings but do I need the Ansi or the other version? I have several times tried to do this over the past few years and failed ...

Re: multiple projects open?

Mike, I too have been wondering about this. For instance is it possible to have several different projects open (ideally 4) and to run the same query on each of them. One could then quickly compare the results sets from several projects. Rather than have to make a lot of notes. But I will post a new...

Mike. You are completely brilliant.
You always exceed my hopes as I didnt even think it could be done.
And now so quickly, doing as you described, I have my divorce data just as I need it.
Thank you very much

Re: Query results in Family facts

Mike, With apologies. I have written and run this query. The results are exactly what I want. Thank you. And it is very useful to accidentally have the number of children of the divorced couple also showing. I notice (for the first time) that when one runs a query and looks at the results, the curso...

Query results in Family facts

I moved to fh from TMG which did not use family facts. I am working on Place studies and looking at the divorces. In fh divorce is a family fact. A query brings up a list of all divorced couples listed as couples posessing this family fact. I need a results list from which I can click on an individu...

Re: Release of Version 7

You are priviledged. I offered and heard nothing. But then I cant always remember how to use the present version. Spent ages yesterday trying to find people referred to on a source or from a single place. What I really want is a more practical on-line index to the book Getting the Most. There are fa...
