Re: Double clicking on child
Can you clarify where you are double-clicking the child? Is it a Children entry in the Focus Window on the left, or a Children entry in the Spouse tab at the base of Property Box ? I am double clicking in the focus window. I didnt realise the children were listed in the property box as I usually ha...

Double clicking on child
If I double click on a selected child, hoping to make them the focus person, it has no effect. One has to move the mouse and click on the focus icon. And then the same as one moves to the next sibling. It could be that fh does not provide this link. But it annoys me. So I think it worth asking wheth...

Averages and Show Project Statistics.
I am sorry to bother you Mike but yesterday I was looking to see whether fh allows one to find the average age of a group of people? I think fh lets one see the average age at death? So logically it should be possible to find the average age of people at a census. I adapted the fh query to find the ...

Re: Associated People
It is hardly surprising that I cant beta test the upcoming version as I still cant work the existing one. Please remind me how to Associate two people. Again it isnt in the index to the handbook. I am entering people mentioned in an autobiography. Thus all share the same source. However some are clo...

Re: Charting programs
I dont know what a fractal tree is. One becomes attached to software one has used for a long time and I have just upgraded my Treedraw software (Spansoft). I dont know if Treedraw does anything that fh cannot do. I suspect not. And maybe that is why I did not purchase an upgrade until I saw this pos...

Re: Add media URL short cut
How kind of you Mike to go to that trouble for me and to explain. Thank you so much. The back history of that video and who is who may still be fraught and the singer is still living. I am content to leave it as it is.
And I have now found and added two more. Thanks you so much for this plug in.

Re: Add media URL short cut
I have done this. I cannot click directly on the browser icon in the media pane. I need to open it and then click the arrow to play. Is this how it should be? I thought it would be better to link her media to the website rather than to a video file on my own computer as I may want to send it with th...

Re: Add media URL short cut
That is very helpful Mike thank you.
I had not understood that (like the Joe Wicks You tube exercises we follow) a you tube link to this song will lead to an initial advertisement.
But slow of me. I am sorry. Will now do this.

Add media URL short cut
Mike. Many apologies. I have used the plug in Add media URL short cut to put a link from the person's media tab to the url but if I then click on the Google chrome icon it just opens the link for me to edit the link. It does not open the remote website. Why would this be? And why does adding a media...

I down loaded the plug in Mike but probably messed up the rest. I need to leave it now till tomorrow when I am fresh. Plus I am about to go to an on line academic lecture.

I wanted to download it but the nearest I could do was to paste the images and link into a word document.
I dont have the plug in Mike but will look for it, thanks.

On line video as media exhibit?
There are various musicians in my family - classical and pop.
Where there is a surviving video of them, sometimes only on line, I have wanted to add it (as a file or a web link) to their media tab.
But how does one do this? One can only drag and drop still images there?

Re: Introducing myself and a little (or maybe big) question
I seem to remember that the split in your sources is due to the dates at which the indexes were gradually put on line. They would also indicate whether or not the maiden name of the mother was in the original birth index, and was thus for the first time, also provided on line. Initially the on line ...

Sorting of dates
Can someone please help me or comment on date sorting in fh? I am working on a data base which includes men of military age in World War 2. I currently have query results showing me this group with birth dates and places and death dates and places in columns. But sorting on those dates is strange. T...

Re: Name and name 2 on Main Tab of Property box
I will do that Mike. Though when we bought this new computer I remember I failed at that too and had to copy the calico pie programme data file. The good news is that I have been checking and entering lists of war dead against a census and should complete that today. Though tredious, fh is brilliant...

Re: Name and name 2 on Main Tab of Property box
Thank you Mike. That has fixed it. I didnt realise that adding the [2] would change Name to a custom field which I could then edit. I have absolutely no memory at all of customising this. I suspect I fixed it up right from the start when handling the Anglicization of German names. May be it was some...

Name and name 2 on Main Tab of Property box
It is Sunday and very hot so this can wait till tomorrow. I may be dreaming but I thought that the two name fields on the main tab of the property box could display two alternative names for the same person. Name 1 and Name 2 That is, that for a married woman, her married name might show underneath ...

You are quite right not to delete emails. I lost important email for 1991-1992 because of aol inconsistencies about back up. I dont like having a crowded list in the project folder. My system in TMG, and also fh when the time comes, is to use an additional sub folder called Completed, created in win...

I dont know the cm, cut off point for other DNA websites. There are some sites to which one can upload one's raw data (which you can download from ancestry) . The best known is Gedmatch. Mine was uploaded also to Familytree DNA because a one name study DNA site was being hosted there. I am not too h...

Re: CSV date issues in spreadsheets
Dates have always been a great problem for me, in using MS Access or Excell. Historians sometimes find for example that a letter was written during the summer of 1934. Bibliography software allows for seasonal dating and has more flexibility. For a long time I kept one of my historical databases in ...

Yes. That is a kind suggestion and have done it in the past -Some lists are very tedious to enter and it works well. But I am currently working through people listed in a book - with much mis spelling of the names too. I want to know where I found the people but to enter more accurate information fo...

Thank you so much Mike. I did eventually find the plug in, but I wanted to remember and to do what you suggested. I have now pasted this topic into my word document list of your answers. Unfortunately I do need to use the copy elsewhere as I am copying and pasting census sources for each entry, Howe...
