Re: Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings
Thank you I will take time to look at all of these suggestions and downloads. However, my original request was for this to go on the wish list. That was turned down by FHUG, The thread was moved here. I would like it to go in the requests. I know I can get the information by moving from the focus pe...

Re: Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings
A year later, I have not managed to display the surnames of spouses of siblings of an individual. Nor to format the tree to show them legibly on a computer screen. I really would like my user request to be registered that the surnames of the marriage partners of an individual's children and the marr...

Re: Sources and Citations
I think it also worth observing that there appears to be a cultural divide between British and United States citation of genealogical sources. Many genealogist in USA rely on the books by Elizabeth Shown Mills on Citing Your Sources which provide a detailed template for an ever increasing number of ...

I have indeed bought and read the book.

Re: Sources and Citations
I am a TMG user -not particularly expert at adding images. I havent done much with images in TMG and dont know what happens in FH. However, I have many old family photographs as well as images of sources and have form time to time considered adding them and or linking them to trees. One benefit of m...

Re: How to list all place details for a selected city
Lorna - Thank you. This is a follow up query about vocabulary. Place versus Address? I was under the impression that in a GEDCOM or genealogy software, Address is a term used for a Fact or Event containing the information about current contact address, e-mail etc for living people and other research...

Re: How to list all place details for a selected city
Peter - Thank you so much. It is perfect. I downloaded your file and didnt know what to do with it! However, the letters .fhq on your file, gave me a clue. I made a Windows 7 search to discover where the rest of the FH queries xxx.fhq files including my own might be stored. So I found all of them. I...

How to list all place details for a selected city
This is not a new question but the former thread is locked and the replies provided there by Jane and Mike are baffling to me as a new user. I need to print out a list of all the addresses in e.g. Adelaide, including grave references in cemeteries there. It would be useful to have by each one the na...

Re: Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings
I think the FH record list is a list of all the names? So it wouldnt help with identifying a family circle, unless one filtered it, and refiltered as one moved about the tree. And I dont yet understand queries. I have though this evening and by chance come up with a screen that does indeed show the ...

Re: Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings
Mike - I apologise. I did not understand that this forum is independent of the FH authors Calico Pie. I have continued to use TMG and to postpone the moment when I need to put in the time mastering FH. Yet this question has continued to lurk at the back of my mind. I do not want FH to slavishly mimi...

Re: Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings
Mike - You have helped me a great deal in finding my way round FH. And it is your plug which has enabled me to carry my transferred data on my phone. However there is a fine line between helping someone and exercising power - I am upset that my wish has been moved. I posted a wish and it should not ...

Re: Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings
Colin, I have uploaded and linked a screen shot of TMG as requested. However it is not relevant as I am not asking for FH to change to resemble TMG. I am expressing a wish for additional information - the names of spouses - to be shown on tabular lists that already exist in FH. https://picasaweb.goo...

Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings
I am not an experienced user of FH and lack the vocabulary but I think this request applies to the Focus Window. I would like the display list of children which is already in tabular form to include a column showing the fore and surname of the spouse of each child (if any). Similarly the table of si...

Re: Census Tags/ Events TMG to FH
See Knowledge Base > Understanding the Scope of Features for details. I am very grateful for this link. Just what I needed. Could FH now take the further step of making it more readilly available from the Knowledge base page? For I had failed to find this information when I previously looked and no...

Thanks Mike, absolutely correct. I will ignore the warning. This is to do with Tags that are already shared. But if I move completely to FH, I will avoid shared Tags too.

Editing Events
I am a new user with FH 6.0.4. I have run into a problem with the creation of events where one needs a Family and Individual version of the same event. In FH the Census for instance is Census (family) or Census - so it would presumably be acceptable to follow that pattern? When one creates a new Eve...

Census Tags/ Events TMG to FH
This is not a problem with the FH import of TMG which is fine. It would be helpful if someone who used the UK version of the TMG census tags and created witness roles for them could explain step by step how they edited those Tags either before or after import to FH. I am having problems which other ...

Re: Using GEDSTAR Pro with FH import from TMG
Don - Thank you for your concern. This is really a question for a TMG Forum. I was seriously considering reverting to the USA version of TMG in order to convert my census Tags prior to import to FH. Nor does adoption of the standard Census Tag, strongly recommended by FH people, really impinge on th...

Re: Using GEDSTAR Pro with FH import from TMG
For any TMG users choosing to alter within TMG any settings for the UK census Tags - Just a warning that I myself have run into trouble doing this. The UK version (which was the only version I saved) is reporting that it cannot locate the necessary Data to change the gedcom type - probably not worki...

Re: Using GEDSTAR Pro with FH import from TMG
I can answer the first part of your question Mike. In my Gedstar app using the TMG project file, directly converted by Gedstar on a Windows computer. The Census event opens and the Note is displayed, but there are two further buttons shown, one labelled sources and the other labelled Witnesses. If y...

Re: Using GEDSTAR Pro with FH import from TMG
I have spent some hours sorting out the various files and versions to make sure my report is accurate. I am not well versed in FH and frequently have difficulty locating the various exports. I went back to the TMG file and made notes of how I had entered or not entered or even duplicated Census entr...

Re: Using GEDSTAR Pro with FH import from TMG
I have now experimented further and am reporting back. Please note, my experiments bringing my TMG data into and out of FH 6.0.4 are just that. Playing around prior to any major and permanent transfer. I ran into problems not relevant here when editing Event Tags in TMG. So today I followed advice t...

TMG to FH Event-misc character problem
After it was known that TMG was going out of production, I stopped inventing numerous custom Tags and instead entered any event that was not otherwise classified as Event-Misc - a tag offered as Standard on TMG. I wrongly believed this Event-misc was a dated GEDCOM event Tag that would transfer easi...

Re: Using GEDSTAR Pro with FH import from TMG

I am very grateful for the information and opinions in this thread. Someone expert in GEDCOM may be abl...

Re: Using GEDSTAR Pro with FH import from TMG
I appreciate all I have learned from this discussion - However back to my main reason for starting this thread. Is there any way I can get my witness data from a FH tree onto my Android phone? And, by the way, you should never under-estimate the chances of an elderly user getting into trouble once t...
