Re: Showing Place of Birth of Children?
I have that Plug in - but I want place of birth of children to show the place on the Fact screen, as Jane describes. I sometimes dont see the obvious in FH. The places of the births of the children are not shown on the Fact Screen. And I couldnt find out where and if it is possible to add a place co...

Showing Place of Birth of Children?
Is there a way of showing the place of birth of a child either in an added column on the Focus Window list of children? Or on the mother's Property Box list of Facts, on the Time Line birth event? With migrant populations, the town or country of birth of a child may be the only indication of where t...

Re: Temporary lists of Names
Thank you Mike - I dont know why I missed the little icon to save to file! To round it off, my archive visit was successful - a needle in the hay stack enterprise - But used the print out and found the missing family. I discovered that FH can export a GEDCOM of just that Candidate named list, so I c...

Re: Temporary lists of Names
Brilliant Mike - No , I knew little of that. I didnt know about the Note pane. And I configured the columns to include Spouse and dates as I have on the main list of people. And (after accidentally printing the whole project by not using the filter) I have printed out the Named Candidate List from a...

Temporary lists of Names
What do FH users do when they want to record possibly temporary entries for people who may or may not be related. It happens a lot with common surnames? I have today entered 56 people to a FH named list "Candidates". I am now ready to go to an archive and cross off the ones that dont belong to my re...

Custom Views Suggestions
FH users have mentioned that they work from a variety of open windows, e.g. without the Focus Window. I wonder if it would be possible for people to post screenshots or descriptions of the view they normally like to have on screen as they work? For instance, my own data entry has been transformed by...

Re: Extra Windows
This repeats my previous request for much the same like one had in TMG. At the moment I find I am using the suggestion that stuck in my memory - With John Doe in the property Box, Use the blue Up arrow to his father and then and click to view descendants which Mike configured for me to show partners...

Re: Migrating from TMG9 to FH6
Although TMG does allow for separate data sets within one project, I wonder how widely they were used. I myself had difficulty with them and I too keep multiple separate TMG Projects. I used data sets within a Project for a different purpose - to lists possible candidates. Possible matches - For ins...

Copying Source Records to a New Project
Maybe someone has already mentioned this. I apologise if so. But this work round was something I failed to find when considering a move to FH. I keep multiple Projects. In UK genealogy one is repeatedly using the same sources for censuses, births, marriages, deaths etc. One of my regrets was the FH ...

Re: How to handle places with multiple names?
Just to say that I downloaded two plug ins to the correct directory. And the map location works perfectly. I chose an individual at random and it showed both very small places in Germany and then immigration involving three continents. It is so easy to type in place data and hurry on without having ...

Re: How to handle places with multiple names?
I will do what you say Mike. Thank you. That will be great. But in defence of the FH system outside UK - If I look down my Place Records list, I see to my astonishment that it has put in co-ordinates (not consciously requested) for a couple of obscure villages, one in Germany and one in Poland. Of c...

Re: How to handle places with multiple names?
I think this will have to wait or even be abandonned. I put Szczecin in the standardised place box. But the programme doesnt find it. It seems to be searching on Stettin instead? I typed the place Szczecin in the search box, and it told me that no such place is found even though I can see it marked ...

How to handle places with multiple names?
Town names changed as they switched from Poland to Germany and back.
To match the source one may need e.g. the city Danzig.
For the FH map button to locate it one needs Gdansk.
Any suggestions for this - Do people duplicate the birth Tag?

Thanks for that additional information.
Irony is that my email is set to plain text only because plain text is required by Roots Web genealogy mailing lists.

Re: How to Handle People With Multiple Names
Thank goodness for this guidance on married women whose birth name is not yet known. There are other multiple names - Name changes. Sometimes of both forename and surname. FH has no Event for Name Change. And if one sets up a second name, it doesnt show either in the focus window or the Facts list i...

Re: Individual Report for more than one person?
Yes. I saw both the scroll bars on the right and assumed the one by the document scrolled the whole document (which it did not). I also saw the the one further right alongside all the editing options and wrongly assumed it would move to further options. And looking again, I can now also see the numb...

Re: Individual Report for more than one person?
I must be particularly stupid as I spent ages searching in that chapter of the book. I have it by the computer all the time. I missed that outer scroll bar. And since I thought the data was only for one person, I saved it but didnt bother to open it in Word. I have just opened it and the information...

Individual Report for more than one person?
Many apologies but I cannot find out how to do what I need in order to send data to another researcher. I want to create a single report on three people (as yet unrelated) , save it as rich text and then cut and paste the information into an email. Please tell me which report to use for this. The de...

That is brilliant Mike. Thank you. Just having a column in the records list will be fine for me. I have been using that with a (custom) named list. But I will look at all the methods you suggest. I am sorry about the spelling. I have never been able to spell. My husband has been trying to cure me fo...

Flags
Can one get a flag or its icon to show in the Focus window? Find My Past seems to send ikons to that Focus Window box. Or does a FH ikon show only on the tree diagram? I have created a Flag with an ikon. Is there any way that one can see instantly that a particular person has a flag attached to them?

Re: Non standard facts?
That is lovely help but there has been a misunderstanding. This is not a TMG import topic. My personal family trees are still in TMG. I know that I can open my TMG Project files and import them to Family Historian any time I want - I simply dont have the time or inclination to transfer them just now...

Non standard facts?
I would be grateful to know how users of FH record non standard facts. I have created a new Project in FH . This is not an import. However, I have displayed All fact sets, the GEDCOM and those that come for users of TMG. My question is how does GEDCOM and or FH provide for events not included in the...

Re: Fact sentence inclusive of source details
I think it might be added to this thread that I too as a user of TMG looked for info on this and indeed bought the book Getting the Most from Family Historian hoping to find the codes there. I am not sorry to have the book, but only later, after cutting and pasting a useful sentence provided on this...

Mike - On 4 October you posted 2 custom queries and a custom chart to help me view a family with the marriage partners of children and siblings. Re: Focus Window display of Spouses of children & siblings
First, I am not totally sure that I can. Not using the FH sample data base. Just as one might be be to edit the tree view - say if one could set it left to right and have the spouses appear alongside their partners as in a list. I have from the start found it really hard that the FH software relies ...
