Re: Copy/Paste in the Property Box
This is an interesting thread. For years and years I have used ClipMate software which retains anything one copies or cuts - so that one doesnt overwrite and lose things on the Windows clip board. Clip mate holds the Events I copy from FH both with data and without. EventMisc Date: 9 June 1949 Place...

Re: Facts - Fast Add List or even faster?
I am once again defeated by FH Help and Knowledge Base. I read that one can customise the Main Tab. But cant find out where the menu or sub menu is to do this. I've looked under preferences for the Property Box but dont see anything there. I cant find an option in the editing Facts which is where we...

Facts - Fast Add List or even faster?
I have customised and been using the Fast Add menu which lets you select and add a frequently used fact using two key strokes. You have to open the list and select a Fact every time you want one of the facts. Looking back to TMG, we could make a customised toolbar with one click access to any fact w...

Re: Facts - Fast Add Menu
Just closing it without saving changes does not. No - Because with my choices now on both computers, the sample project opens with and retains those choices.
I think forget it - I just wondered why I had lost the list. It could have happened way back when I reinstalled on the lap top.

Re: Facts - Fast Add Menu
No - Just my habit of always returning the Sample database to its initial state. And never saving changes.
Anyway - It is now as I want it for dealing with these particular records. On both computers. And I will be doing so much data entry over the next few weeks that hopefully I wont forget.

Re: Facts - Fast Add Menu
Mike - I lost my customised Fast Add list on my lap top. Just a thought - Could this be due to the Sample Project? I had recently turned my attention to learning more about FH Diagrams and used the Sample Project to carry out some of the tasks suggested on line and in the book Getting the Most. I al...

Re: Default font and legibility
Not sure why this has come up again? But in case it helps - I put Hebrew names , also Russian into FH 6 with no problem. I have Russian letters on my physical keyboard (because we learn Russian) and if Russian is set in Windows 7, it types directly in to FH. For Hebrew, I dont possess a Hebrew keybo...

Mike - Sorry I called you John - Now corrected.
I had been playing about with Gedsite by John Cardinal, for which you wrote the Plug In export.

Re: Facts - Fast Add Menu
I should add to this thread that nothing has been done to make the Help easier. I have spent more than an hour searching help and the knowledge base today looking for this information - how to configure the quick add menu. In the end I found your invaluable post Mike by finally Googling my question....

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot
The bold makes those extra surnames stand out very well, Mike. Thank you. My husband has just come in to admire your work. I managed to remove the older version and put this on on the tools menu. So showed him what you had taught me - hit the three keys and Bingo, all the names were there for him to...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot
Thank you for explaining the Alt short cut - Now I understand the system. I moved it to the Tools menu and it works.
The penalty of old age is that one forgets. So when you made the new version I didnt remember to place it there. Sorry.

Family Event entry
Apologies Mike but I am in difficulty with a Family event for which I have no family. A woman was engaged to a political dissident. For this reason she was herself arrested and sent to a prison. I tried to enter her engagement and FH wont let me. What do FH users do? I really dont want to create an ...

Re: Migrating from TMG9 to FH6
I think the choice of USA or UK style only adjusts the place and name field labels. I still dont understand why clicking the little note book icon in FH blanks out the notes and source fields. Possibly because it is an invalid action? It is only an indicator and shouldnt be clicked? But it is discon...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot
Mike - Sorry, I seem to have lost the knack of using the short cut you taught me. Alt with T and then Q.
I deleted all other plug ins starting with the word Quick - Alt T U opens the Plug ins but I think that you did something quicker?
Or perhaps I remembered wrong?

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot
Mike, That is lovely. Absolutely.
I dont really grasp the import of your plans for the buttons and scroll bars - and I am looking at the snapshot only in the context of small family groups - but all the information I need is right there. Unbelieveable - Thank you so much.

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot
Apologies Mike. Overnight I realised that your extending the Child snapshot to include Family and inviting comments, prompted me to confuse what had originally been two separate "wishes". When looking at the Facts for an individual woman, I wanted to be able to see the birth places of her children, ...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot
These are both very nice. But to get the info that was there on screen in TMG, (which Mike has made me within a tree diagram) one needs to add the surnames of the marriage partners of the siblings and children too. It is this family network of names that matters so much to me. The relationship betwe...

Re: Migrating from TMG9 to FH6
I have not done a serious or final import of my many TMG projects to FH. But I do have one in FH (direct import) which I use for purposes of comparison with the same Project in Roots Magic. As far as I can see all the notes for Tags come into the Note field beneath the FH Event. The difficulty is th...

I am one of those who stand to benefit from these plug ins - Thank you so much Mike. I have been using the Quick Child Look up. And thanks to you Mike, it is on my Tools menu. However as a new user of FH this thread has thrown up things I havent met before. What is the keyboard short cut<Alt, T and ...

Re: PC disaster - struggling to reinstall FH v6
This is very clear and very helpful. Maybe could be put in the Knowledge base? The thing about the Help links is that they offer such a wealth of information and possibilities, that a new user is at a loss. Plus there is the language to contend with - I see what you are explaining to me here - an up...

Re: PC disaster - struggling to reinstall FH v6
Mike, I think that is a very good idea. I need to subdivide my Downloaded Programmes folder. I did and do have a well backed up system for the now discontinued software TMG. With the final version plus the user name and key. And this is vital for programs that are discontinued. But I have been deepl...

Re: PC disaster - struggling to reinstall FH v6
Thank you Mike - that will be clearer to beginners. We are often in the dark. Much appreciated. As for renaming the file. I meant that the term fh is in the middle of the file name and that makes the programme file hard to find, especially when one is panicking over a crashed computer or a new opera...

Re: PC disaster - struggling to reinstall FH v6
Mike - I think that is right about the plug in and settings. However the instruction page to which you linked, still has the instruction which led me to grief. "If you have a Full License download for any earlier version, you can use its Free Trial version to re-install on your computer. " Because I...

Re: PC disaster - struggling to reinstall FH v6
I am the worst person to answer this question as only now beginning to seriously use the software. And if anything can be missed or mis-handled I probably do that too. However, like you I found re installing a big problem. Like you I have bought many on-going versions of FH. And trying to install FH...
