Re: Custom Data Entry Tab Places?

I am very puzzled. On the Property Box/ Add Fact/ quick add menu, if I click Census, I get all the fields. So how has this instance on the Quick add list apparently become a Custom fact census? I have not to my knowledge customised it. But if i click on the same Fact to put on a data entry tag, it i...

Custom Data Entry Tab Places?

There is no urgency about this enquiry - It can easily wait till after the New Year. I tried to create a simple custom data entry Tab to enter data (individual) from censuses not covered by ancestral sources. But when an Event is added to a Custom data entry Tab, it looks as tho not all its fields a...

Re: Thanks

I absolutely second this - I could not have survived the last few weeks' learning curve without Mike, Jane and several others.
Hope you will all enjoy your Christmas knowing that you have done so much to make using FH enjoyable for us, your students.

Re: Clearing a Flag from an Individual?

That was not my point Mike. The point is that many new users will start using Flags after they have created several individuals who qualify to have that flag added. Hence we learn the method that can flag several people at once. i.e. working from the people list and not from the Edit button. And get...

Re: Understanding FH Queries

That is why I and others drive you crazy by asking your help again and again. At least I now know this can be done. So I dont need to flee back to TMG - Examples given are “Find me all the Individual records where the date-of-birth is later than the year 2000” and “Find me all the Family records whe...

Re: Understanding FH Queries

And here is the list that confronted me yesterday and again today when I went to the custom queries. How is a new user to know which of these links goes to Examples given are “Find me all the Individual records where the date-of-birth is later than the year 2000” and “Find me all the Family records ...

Re: Understanding FH Queries

Fine Mike, Thank you. And yes I went to that page. But it gave no indication of which of the two links below led to the solution to that problem. I told you I was avoiding customising - the language deterred me. So I clicked on the non customised link and got a massive list of the Queries. How was I...

Re: Understanding FH Queries

Yes David , But it by now a long list and I have read it countless times. None coincide with the following - not as far as a I as a new user can see. "Examples given are “Find me all the Individual records where the date-of-birth is later than the year 2000” “Find me all the Family records where the...

Re: Clearing a Flag from an Individual?

Jane, I felt so grateful to you yesterday in the archive that I thought it worth giving some feed back. This relates to my query problem too. Some of the difficulties arise from the software itself. And the variety of ways in which one can do the same thing. I learned to add a Flag by using the Go T...

Re: Understanding FH Queries

Yes, Mike, with apologies, I think I did need David's step by step instructions. I will put my mind to this today. With a big sigh of relief. There was a moment last night when I thought I might need to take my FH Project back to TMG. The language used in FH is difficult for beginners. I did several...

Re: Understanding FH Queries

Chapter 17 in the book I have - 2016 Edition of Getting the Most, Mike, is called Introduction to Queries. I followed it and the tutorial and used the Sample Project to bring up lists for some of the standard queries. I need someone who uses FH to explain please how to get a report finding the peopl...

Understanding FH Queries

I am sorry to say that I do not understand FH Queries, even after reading Chapter 17 of the book. I am ashamed that I have such difficulty learning FH, but it seems the instruction book is packed with information about formatting reports and exporting them. I want a filtered list of people. I am use...

Re: Clearing a Flag from an Individual?

Thanks so much Jane. The normal has worked, just that I hadnt known the normal route.

Mike had kindly shown me how to add a Flag check box to my main Fact Pane - so I got confused and somehow thought that was the box mentioned in the Help.

Clearing a Flag from an Individual?

I am once again stuck - working in an archive. I am using a custom flag to mark people and still doing it via the person list, right clicking a name and adding the flag. If I go back to that list to clear the flag, that flag is paled out. The instructions to clear a flag say to uncheck the box - but...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot

Thank you, I now understand how it behaved and what was going on.

And I also apologise for wrongly thinking I needed to cling onto an earlier version - tho it demonstrates how I have come to depend on the things you have done to help me.

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot

I downloaded the latest as I use Windows 7. The window that opened did not show all the children data even for a family of 4 children without scrolling or enlarging the window. The version that I like mimics TMG and gives me the info I need about is called Quick Family Snapshot (this may be my namin...

Configuring the Fact Tabs

I am playing about with FH, so please forgive these questions if they seem stupid. I use FH (I think) in default mode. I have a column on the left from which I can get to the lists, any open diagrams etc. Then there is the Focus Window showing me the family group with clickable links. Next there is ...

Re: Record Flags beginner level

Thank you Mike - I now have the Flag Tab showing on the Main screen. And for data entry purposes, that is very quick. However, though I wanted the flag and the ikon as a marker, and the distribution shows very nicely on the family diagrams, and allows one to have a sortable column for it on the main...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot

Please dont be annoyed, you fh specialists at my asking this. When a plug in goes through very sophisticated development with user input as in this case, the final version goes on the plug in store. Do the links to download the previous often very simple versions remain on the Forum thread, so that ...

Re: Christmas is coming

I seem to remember that the light bulbs are a game and that I used to play it at Christmas ? To distract me from the cooking. Instead of patience!

Is this so Jane? And if so could you please re-post the instructions.

My previous attempts to master FH must have coincided with Christmas.

Re: Record Flags beginner level

I had got as far as the Data Reference step - Then gave up as I wrongly thought a data reference needed code.

I may not be able to arrange this till Monday now Mike. But am very grateful for the detailed guidance.

This is turning out very good indeed.

Re: Record Flags beginner level

The DNA marking is a similar to what I need. Mike helped me to mark people with a flag and a small icon. If I want to see the pattern within a family, I use the tree and the flagged people show nicely. Very good solution for me. However, I have just run into a snag. If a person has no parents or chi...
