Re: Gedsite
My website was made using Second Site, a companion program to TMG The Master Genealogist. My site isnt particularly brilliant - there are many amazing sites out there which used Second Site. Genealogy site at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wilcock/ Many users of TMG who moved to o...

Re: Find duplicates of same record with alternative spelling
This is all new to me - Particularly the soundex. Thank you. I will think it out. Better than I expected. Since on line indexers have this problem too.

Re: Understanding FH Queries
Thank you again - I think what I am doing wrong is to write in the column heading and believe that puts in the data too -
That would explain all the blank columns I was getting.

Re: Merge, Compare and Project File Names
Thank you David.
Possibly I did not close the Projects before.
As for Drop box, I know people here manage it. I have a long history of failure and frustration with drop box. Plus I dont find it convenient to work on line in archives where there may or may not be good wi-fi. And no privacy.

Create new template - Census
Mike Tate suggested that I should request you to add census data entry forms for censuses I am using. Instead, I had been going to ask whether it might be practical in computing terms at some future update, to adapt your existing Census Ancestral Sources, by allowing some customisation? Having just ...

Re: Find duplicates of same record with alternative spelling
Can I add to this thread please? I am in big trouble with surnames spelled three ways in German. Grünberg with an umlaut (the dots). The modern convention when one cant type the accent is Gruenberg, inserting an e after the accented vowel. But some websites simplify it Grunberg. These names sort in ...

Merge, Compare and Project File Names
This is really a question about Project and File names. And changing them. My error updating Drop box the other day meant I spent a morning adding data to a version of a project that was not the most recent - the most recent one was still on my lap top. That meant I had to compare two Projects with ...

Re: Understanding FH Queries
Yesterday I followed David's guidelines and created a Custom Query. Some subsiduary questions. I watched Jane's video on creating a custom query and the screen led me to believe it was one of a series ending with how to put a flag on people found with a query. I didnt find this video. And I played a...

GEDCOM Export choices
Disaster struck yesterday when I discovered that I and drop box between us had failed to update the Project on my computer. I had spent the morning adding data to a Project that lacked the records which had been added to my Laptop on a previous day. The real test of new software is when something go...

Re: Assigning Shortcut Keys
Lorna - I was slow to discover the Edit button, but now do use it for adding multiple people to both Flags and Named Lists. Initially I thought one had to go via Tools. Is there any reason why there are are two routes in FH to doing this same thing, and any particular advantage of one over the other...

Re: Getting from the find record to focus person
I also managed to recreate the situation where I type data into the property box of the wrong person. It has to do with the Focus window. In that window a person's rectangle can be surrounded by a dark line. I guess that signifies they are the focus person. But if you click on them a second time, th...

Re: Getting from the find record to focus person
Also I didnt know about the Alt click reversing the order. I need that to see the most recently added people.
Thank you so much.
I get annoyed with myself that it is taking me so long to find and remember these simple things.

Re: Getting from the find record to focus person
"Probably best to have them in name order. Click on the first name (in fact any name will do) now type in fairly quickly the first few letter of the name. This will move the selection to the first name in the list beginning with those letters and does not filter the list at all." David - Thank you s...

Re: Getting from the find record to focus person
I have had the same confusion about the magnifying glass icons. Coming from TMG I too am used to working from the compete list of people. Two questions about that list - In FH I search for a person by typing in the first letter of one of their names. That seems to act as a filter and the filter is s...

Re: Custom Data Entry Tab Places?
You put the census question very clearly Mike. It never occurred to me that I could have continued using Censuses as a source. And when I have a pause in this research, I should like to start a new thread and ask about these censuses and other multiple instances. Going back to the custom data entry ...

Re: Custom Data Entry Tab Places?
Mike, A quick note to say you are right. I do not understand the sequential numbering. The result is that my custom data entry Tag which is named for one specific list, works only for individuals I am adding for the first time from that list. For names already on my data base who have previous Censu...

Re: Custom Data Entry Tab Places?
I think you are right. About my not understanding the census entry Tab and the sequential numbering. I will look at that and re read, but may be not till next week. I am sorry I misunderstood your example. In order to get the custom tab onto the lap top, I exported it and imported it to the FH proje...

Re: Custom Data Entry Tab Places?
Mike, I did what you said for the formatting help and got it. I have copied that (along with other vital info) into my Essential Notes to FH. On the design of the Tab - I have formatted a nice box. But I need to confess that when making custom items, I didnt manage to do exactly what you said. Becau...

Re: Custom Data Entry Tab Places?
You have given me a lot to think about. In TMG all Events (Tags or Fact) could be repeated, but one and only one was selected as primary and used for things like Web sites. In the UK edition of TMG Caroline a volunteer created separate Census tags for each UK census year. The objective was to allow ...

Re: Custom Data Entry Tab Places?
First answer Mike, is that following your instructions I made a data entry tab for this (non) census type list. It isnt very pretty, as I dont understand and cant find any guide to formatting the boxes or which figures to enter and boxes to tick when customising the data entry. An expert would have ...

Re: Custom Data Entry Tab Places?
I am not using a Census as it is recognised in standard UK and USA practice. A census is sometimes carried out for specific purposes in specific towns. Picture a list made of all young men of military age, with their addresses and date of birth - That is a Census. The town and the date of census tel...
