Re: Box state or colour from named list
Thank you, Mike. You are quite right ... your instructions were all complete and clear ... it's just my brain is not as sharp as it used to be after a stroke. I've printed out your instructions so I can keep reading, checking and referring back to them!

Re: Box state or colour from named list
Thank you both. I'm sorry but I think my little brain is missing a middle step? I did save the Custom Diagram as Mike suggested ... but not as a default because I thought that would lead to further problems I couldn't solve. What I don't understand is after I've added a few more people to the tree a...

Re: Box state or colour from named list
Lorna and Mike, thank you both very much. I've used both of your suggestions! Just checking, there's no way of saving it without running a query on the diagram each time? I'm guessing not or you would have said! Mike, I don't use a query to add individuals to the Named List because that's too advanc...

Box state or colour from named list
Short version of my query: How do I ensure that all the people in a Named List have a golden box fill colour or frame? Longer explanation, if needed! As part of a local archive project, I've drawn up a big family tree of our local gentry and I'm trying to show the line of succession of the baronetcy...

Re: Hints have lost their colour?
Well, I'm glad it's not just me!
When it first started, I noticed the change to include the word Civil and the loss of colour. The next day the colours came back for a few hours then disappeared again.
I hope it's just teething problems with a new system and the colours will eventually return.

Hints have lost their colour?
A minor problem but has anybody else lost the colour at the top of their Find My Past hints? When you have an array of about 12 hints, it was really handy to be able to spot the Birth hints and do all those together because they were all in the same colour. Obviously, I can actually read that they s...

Re: Place query beginner level
Thank you so much for that, Jane. You're a star!
I'm just off to work now but I'll test it out tonight.
(Update ... it worked perfectly ... exactly what I needed, thank you!)

Place query beginner level
I haven't got a clue how to do this but queries or named lists are at the back of my mind! I'm visiting a local church for a talk next week (St Eval) and I'd like to find some headstones whilst I'm there ... so I need a list of my relatives who have been buried there. The only way I seem to use a qu...

Re: Mystery numbers after a merge/addition
Lorna and Mike, Thank you both very much for that. I understand now! You always give me the confidence to believe it can be sorted and not to give up! I think I've done it ... or, at least, made a start ... very proud of myself. :D I tried two ways so maybe you could tell me if this was right, and w...

Re: Mystery numbers after a merge/addition
Yes it does appear after place names. When I delete the place to test it, it disappears but when I put the place back in it comes back. In case I didn't explain properly at the beginning, these new records are 99% new individuals so they're not duplicates of any in the original file. Don't know if t...

Mystery numbers after a merge/addition
Still a newbie, making mistakes! I've just added a small FH project to my main one using the merge/compare and selecting the don't match any records bit. (I get into all sorts of trouble when I merge things too quickly so I thought I'd look for duplicates later.) Everything seemed to go well but now...

Main Ancestors for DNA matches
Sorry if this has been asked before but I’ve spent all morning searching through the Knowledge Base and old posts on the Forum and can’t find it. I’m trying to create a gedcom of my main ancestors only, siphoned off from my main tree. (I need to do this to upload to Ancestry to help my DNA ma...

Re: Record Flags beginner level
Thank you for the advice, Mike and Jane, but I think I’m going to forget about this one as ‘beyond me’ for the moment. I’ll go back to it in a year and try again because I’m still learning about the basics … even diagrams! Referring back to your numbers, Mike: 1. I have already added the DNA image t...

Record Flags beginner level
What I’m trying to do is to add an image I have of a DNA symbol and attach it to various people in my tree who have done a DNA test. I want it to show up clearly ‘from a distance’ on every diagram or even in the Focus Window to remind me. (I’m adding distant cousins all the time who have confirmed o...

Thank you, Mike. That worked perfectly ... plus I've discovered more of what Family Historian can do in that Options tab!

Re: Outline Descendant Report for a beginner
Thank you so much for those clear instructions, Mike. I've printed them out to use in future as well.
It certainly looks much better now but it's still 25 pages because it shows every sibling and their descendants. Is there any way of showing just the 'direct line'?

Outline Descendant Report for a beginner
temp1.PNG Somebody sent me this outline report for one of our shared lines and he wants me to send back the same sort of thing for a different line. (Showing an outline from my great x3 grandmother to me.) I’m sorry but I’m still a beginner and can’t find out how to do that. I’ve tried going to Pub...

Re: Nervous about upgrading from V5 to V6
Just a final little update for anybody else considering upgrading from V5 to V6. I finally bit the bullet yesterday and it was incredibly easy. Everything upgraded/changed with no problems at all. I don't know what I was worried about! The new features are amazing too and makes researching online so...

Nervous about upgrading from V5 to V6
I've just watched an excellent webinar on Find My Past about using Family Historian for hints and so on. I think it's persuaded me to upgrade to Version 6 but I'm very nervous about losing all my 'stuff'. My IT skills are very limited so, apart from making back-up copies of all my projects and buyin...
