Re: Diagram showing cause and age of death

Thanks for the clear instructions, Mike. I followed them all the way to the bottom (with no success) so here is the expanded text scheme box:

Re: Diagram showing cause and age of death

Jane, thank you for spotting my custom 'cause of death' fact! I have no idea why I chose to do that ... somehow I thought it would be easier. Clearly not!

Re: Diagram showing cause and age of death

Thank you, Mike, I actually see what you mean there. Why on earth didn't I just use the standard Death event in the first place. Duh!

As to the diagrams, I tried those two box-scaling changes but neither had any effect on showing the age values.

Re: Diagram showing cause and age of death

I'm not sure I understand that advice yet but will wait for it to sink in! I don't know where to find the Cause of Death items you mean ... but I think I ended up with an extra item when I tried to fix it. I double-clicked on the Cause of Death (see picture) so then I ticked the cause and age and un...

Diagram showing cause and age of death

I've just created a new FH Project for my main ancestors for a medical reason. (Four of my first and second cousins have had rare blood cancers so we were interested to see if there was any pattern further back.) We just wanted to display their name, relationship to root, cause of death, and their a...

Re: Named List query

Just a quick update. I found a solution that comes under the 'simple but works well for me' banner! I've just created separate named lists for my main ancestral couples. So now, whenever I find the connection with my DNA match, I just add their Individual Record to my main DNA list and also to the s...

Named List query

Apologies if this is a daft question but I can’t find the answer anywhere else. I’m working on a Named List of 168 individuals who are in my tree and whose DNA tests confirm our ‘paper relationship’. I’ve worked out how to add a column showing our relationship but what I’m trying to do now is to add...

Re: Configuring columns in records window

Good advice, as always! I’m very good at doing regular Project backups at least twice a month (which I also save on an external drive and in the cloud just to be extra sure!) but I’m not confident with Plug-ins at all. They’re on my January 2020 list to learn about next year. There is so much useful...

Re: Configuring columns in records window

Thank you so much for that, Mike. It worked perfectly!

(I won't bore you with the long story about why I couldn't do the usual migration but I'm nearly there now anyway. It's actually been a good chance to look again at my preferences and change a few so every cloud!)

Configuring columns in records window

Sorry, I know there's a simple answer to this and I'm missing something obvious! After a recent computer change I've been putting things back to normal but I can't find out how to add the spouse-name column to the Individual Records List? (I've got back to my favourite columns of name, ID, dates, bi...

Re: Custom diagram settings

Diane, the diagram looks just like her old one I think.

Mike, she is going to bring her laptop over tomorrow so we’re going to have another stab at it then.

Hopefully, a good night’s sleep may help us both to understand where we went wrong!

Re: Custom diagram settings

Sorry, I spoke too soon! The export/import bit worked perfectly but nothing is 'applying' to her diagram? We've tried looking through her View - Custom Diagram and clicked on my added diagram type (so it's in there!). It asks for the root which we clicked on but it didn't change things properly? (My...

Custom diagram settings

I've persuaded a friend to buy Family Historian and she's absolutely delighted with it. The only problem is that she would like to use my custom diagram settings so I would like to save mine somehow on a memory stick to transfer to hers and make it her default? (I've already tried to recreate mine f...

Re: Out of Memory

Sorry if I wasn't clear ... I usually use Find My Past both 'within' FH plus a separate window running it outside the programme ... simultaneously!

It's not been a problem at all before now but, maybe, it's due to overworking FH without giving it a break.

Re: Out of Memory

I don't think it was an FMP problem because I use that a lot (not 'inside' Family Historian) and I haven't had any other problems. I use three browsers depending on what I'm working on (Chrome, Internet Explorer and Safari), but they've all been fine. I think I'll do what you suggest and close FH ev...

Re: Out of Memory

Yes, I'm using the FH internal Web Search Window but I've never had any problems with it before. It's a mystery! I'm pretty sure there aren't any background utilities affecting it. Good news about the Autosave ... I'd forgotten that. :) The only thing I think of that might have caused it is that I m...

Re: Out of Memory

I'm afraid I can't post a screenshot because it came up randomly. The action triggering the Out of Memory message was just clicking on the Review button on one of the hints.

Re: Out of Memory

I'm not downloading any media images or anything like that. I do my own research from all the other sites first, then I just click on each of the hints to make sure I haven't missed anything! I just accept or reject the hint?

Out of Memory

In the last week, when I'm using the Find My Past hints through Family Historian, I'm getting a message Out of memory at line:1. Once, it actually just closed the programme which has reminded me to save every 15 minutes! I don't think my computer is the problem but I'm not sure what's causing it? I'...
