Odering of Events & Attributes (FH v6)
Hi I seem to be having an issue regarding the ordering of 'Events & Attributes' within the Facts tab of the Property Box. I have entered two facts relating to a census. The first fact is a Co-residence fact with details entered against the place and age fields with a date of in this instance 1881 (N...

Re: Address, Place and Standardized Place
Hi Have taken your advice and had a play with some 'dummy' data.....yes you are correct.....as soon as one edits a Standarized Place field which is associated with say a 4 column CSV Place field then every Fact with an identical Place data entry ends up with the same Standardized Place .....so anoth...

Address, Place and Standardized Place
Hi there I’m still plodding on sorting out my locations for Facts in CSV format using for the moment only the Place field. (8 columns). I note however that there is now the option (in V6) of having a Standardized Place field to help with geocoding in the Main Tab of Display Place Record . This has g...

Re: Place and Address - Appearance in Reports etc.
Thanks for the quick replies....nothing is straight forward is it.... With all the location data using applicable CSVs in the Place field how do I edit the relevant sentence templates (for Narrative Reports) so that for example a Birth Fact would read 'he lived at <Place> or for an Occupation Fact s...

Place and Address - Appearance in Reports etc.
Hi Have been sending myself slowly (or should that be rapidly) mad trying to work out what is best with regard to what information to put in the Place and Address fields of Facts. There seems to be many different schools of thought about how information should be distributed across these fields. Ini...

Re: Work with Data.......Places
Thanks for the quick responses.....yes I have now realised that one can delete such redundant entries via View>Record Lists>Places .....i thought there might be a way from the Work with Data tables directly. Sorry if my comment in my initial post (extracted and shown below) caused confusion: I have ...

Work with Data.......Places
Have had a number of sessions over the past few days tidying up my Addresses . and making better use of additional columns to enable better sorting of my data. In doing so I have been transferring information from the Place Field within the relevant Fact against an individual and so on and editing e...

Re: Timeline Facts
You are on the right track Tatewise.. Looked in Preferences>Property Box>Colours ......and there under Items is the ability to choose Timeline Fact Background . With this selected a suitable shade/colour selected applied and okayed all is now much clearer to see within the Property Box Facts pane......

Re: Timeline Facts
Hi Again Have double checked a number of things in FH v6 to no avail and then I thought to check my screen settings. Found that the screen brightness was set to 62% and by reducing this to 50% allowed me to see again the grey banding surrounding the Timeline Facts (near relatives) when toggled on......

Timeline Facts
Hi all Have noticed today that whilst I can still toggle the Timeline Facts on and off, when applied I don't get the grey background. This used to be visible and I don't believe I have interferred with any settings which would affect this.....any ideas how I might be able to restore the appearance o...

Re: Tidy Places?
Many thanks Tatewise for the reply.... I was hoping that in v6 this particular issue had been resolved, particularly as it seems an algorithm for doing just what we want has been applied within the diagrams option and automatically applied in Narrative reports....... Will just have to wait to see if...

Tidy Places?
Hi I have been experimenting with Addresses and Places and the number of columns in each in an attempt to sort out my data. (Please see my previous post 12114|Mapping and Geocoding Woes ). I have placed some of the address data within the Place field (to enable better discrimination for manual geoco...

Re: Mapping and Geocoding Woes
Hi Again At present, to improve geocoding I use the following site which seems to give good locations to around street level accuracy if one keys in an address with a street number. http://gmaps-samples.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/geocoder/singlegeocode.html If one is familiar with the area concerned a...

Re: Mapping and Geocoding Woes
Many thanks Tatewise for the prompt reply.... A shame that nothing is simple and straightforward on this particular subject. Hopefully things will evolve and some standardisation will become the norm in the future...... In the meantime I am considering having a lot more information in the Place fiel...

Mapping and Geocoding Woes
Hi Up until now, I have been recording event locations all in the Place field, without too much stucture with comma separated values. However, I believe the time has come to bite the bullet and rationalise the number of columns in both Place and Address fields to aid sorting of data and portability ...

Re: Narrative Reports
Mike Again thanks for the prompt reply. You were exactly right. I made an error in my original post. My data was in the Place , not the Address field. After following your advice re recurring Place names in the options menu following report generation, all is now well and my sanity has been restored...

Narrative Reports
Hi, yet another question. I have a number of Baptism (and some burials) entries for children entered as follows within the Address field: St. George’s Church, Gravesend, Kent When an Individual Summary report is generated the information is displayed as above. This also holds true when a Family Grou...

Re: Place, Address and Death Fields In Reports and Diagrams
Mike, thanks for the prompt reply. I will re examine how I enter information into the Place and Address fields, to try and follow convention. I appreciate that it only is an issue in the Death event , but would you know if it intended to address (no pun intended) the order in which data is displayed...

Place, Address and Death Fields In Reports and Diagrams
Hi If one has entered information in the 'Place', 'Address, and 'Cause' fields of the Death fact of an individual I have noticed the following with regard to the standard Reports and Diagrams when publishing. For an Individual Summary Report the listing appears as follows with respect to Death detai...
